Saw Les Ballets Trockaderos de Monte Carlo here and as a graduate student at Penn in my third year, I’m ashamed to say I’d never been before. This is an awesome theater(though the bathrooms are a little small and there are numerous stairs to navigate). The main theater is intimate with stadium style seating for ~1,000 so even sitting way in the back of the orchestra section(where $ 10 student rush tickets are available!) I was able to see everything on stage. Prices are lower and performances are smaller than at the Kimmel Center, plus they offer an awesome student discount as well as a discount for West Philly residents. Student rush tickets are available beginning a week before the performance, which gives opportunities for better seats. I will definitely be returning to shows here again soon!

We saw Israel’s Inbal Pinto & Avshalom Pollak Dance Company perform Oyster here last month and we were quite pleased with the clean,(albeit dated) contemporary and spacious setting. The Annenberg Center is located across the street from Pod restaurant and public parking, so getting out to Philly for dinner and a show is quite convenient. I like to think that I am a Tim Burton follower and this performance was intended to mimic his expression and style. The production was indistinct and gritty which I typically enjoy but the cast seemed to work so hard at making this show weird that sadly, it wasn’t weird anymore; just confusing but still an enjoyable event.

I made a four hundred mile pilgramage to see Marie Choinard here. I am not sure how much more of an endorsement I can give. Venues like this that put on challenging work are a dying breed and need to be preserved.

Three theaters in the complex, one 1000 seat, one 250, and a black box at about 100. The sound is awesome in the main theater and the others are intimate and inviting. Décor is very 70’s and their are alot of stairs. Old people should ask for assistance to reach their destination, but staff seems very willing to help. Great value.

I’ve been to a Penn convocation ceremony here, Globe Theater Shakespeare, Wharton follies, other Shakespeare productions, Paul Taylor Co., Thank You Gregory, etc. Some have been great, others I walked out of after an hour or so. Take advantage of the student discount($ 10 tickets!) and membership discounts! It’s a great venue!
