Food: 4 Service: 4 Value: 4 They had really amazing cheesesteaks and hoagies. It’s a real shame they shut down.

I discovered Big Dan’s Deli last summer, and immediately became a huge fan. I ordered the Hot Roast Pork sandwich with Broccoli Rabe, Sharp Provolone, and a side of Italian peppers. My husband ordered the Old World Style, 11 street Italian Hoagie. Everything was fresh and made to order. I enjoyed meeting the owner Dan, and was happy to have found a Groupon Offer that led us to this great comfort food. You will want to come back again, and check out the rest of their menu. So, if you want a good, quality sandwich, Big Dan’s is a great spot. Tina’sTwoSense!

Big Dans is what a great deli is supposed to be, real food not frozen from a box. After eating so much slop takeout dans is a breath of fresh air. You can tell dan uses fresh ingredients and cooks them to perfection. All of the staff are so polite and patient, even when i have a special order. If your tired of eating the same old frozen slop please order from dans. By the way he has a hot roast pork that is better than all the famous south philly places put together.

Dan’s sandwiches are delicious, made to order, with fresh, good, solid ingredients. Dan’s Famous Pork Sandwich: stuffed with flavourful tender pork, juicy, tasty with rabe and prov. Great sandwich. Meatball Grinder: meatballs are substantial, very tasty sauce. I’d consider this comfort food — yummy. The Goodfella: surprisingly big slab of chicken breast(I opted for the Grilled Chicken instead of the breaded cutlet), with tasty rabe and prov. The cheese just melts in deliciously. I would have liked more of the greens. A tasty sandwich, but it was a bit unbalanced for me. I’d definitely get it again if I felt like having good chicken, but not an everyday sandwich. Cheesesteak: real slices of steak, freshly cooked, tender. Best cheesesteak I’ve had in Philly so far. Maryland Crab soup: spicy, tasty, salty. If you have a taste, you’ll probably want more. Friendly enthusiastic service. But, be aware that it will take a while to get your sandwich. We’ve had to wait 20 minutes for them to make it, even when we’re the only ones there. Best bet is to call in your order in advance — lots of people came in to pick up their orders while we were waiting. Everything I’ve had here is very good to excellent. Sandwiches are HOT when you get it, freshly cooked off the grill.

We’ve eaten here a few times and will continue to return. Pros: all food is homemade and made to order Daily soup offerings are good, have tried a couple different ones and liked them. Staff is very friendly and remembered us on the second visit. The owner is there cooking regularly. Brownie was amazing. And they have cookies too. Cons: the timeframe to pick up is slow, I always am waiting a minimum of 15 mins while there and I don’t leave my house until its been the time they say it’s ready. The plus to that is the food is always hot.

Fresh Ingredients, Quality Meats and a proficient & helpful Staff truly make Big Dan’s a true cut above the rest. I’ve had great experiences all of the 10 or so times I ordered food and have passed those experiences along the grapevine to friends and family. I highly recommend«The Big Italian» hoagie, «The Chicken Italian» they are excellent.

I started going to this place when it first opened. The food was perfect. More then you could ask for. Good quality Fair price. The owner was always there, the place was clean, you got your food quickly and it what was you asked for. However, the owner seemed to have disappeared off the face of the planet recently and pretty sure he picked up his new employees up from under the el in Kensington.

This is it, this is what I have been looking for. I KNEW there was an incredible Italian hoagie in the city I just needed to keep looking. Sarcone’s is fine, Primo’s is a mouth destroyer, and Salumeria is decent but in a city with such a rich Italian heritage I just knew that the God Hoagie was out there and was just being elusive. With pops in the hospital asking for some«real food» and suggesting and Italian hoagie I saw the opportunity to continue my hunt. Saw Big Dan’s 11th St. Deli was a few blocks off Snyder and pounced. The 11th St Italian is the one. This hoagie has: Parma Prosciutto, Sopresetta, Hot Capicola, Hard Salami, and Sharp Provolone. Are you kidding me? All on one hoagie?! By nature I’m a slow eater and I bodied this monster in less than 5 mins. I want to try the rest of their incredible menu but I have a feeling I’m gonna be on the 11th St. for a while.

To start, the most friendly staff ever! On two separate occasions we were treated to cookies fresh out of the oven. Onto the food, everything we’ve tried has been very good. Great soups and sandwiches.

The soups! It’s all about the soups for my family. The butternut squash, the baked potato, the bean and ham, the crab bisque. Everything has been a winner. And I mean, really, some of the best soups I have ever had. And they are really nice, always offering samples of everything they have going that day. Such a great addition to the neighborhood. Thank you, Big Dan!

This place is AWESOME! My BF and I are so happy to have a quality deli within a couple blocks of the house. The Cubano, 11th St Italian & all the soups are among our favorites. Dan, Fran and crew are always SO nice and eager to satisfy their customers, you can tell that they genuinely want you to have an awesome meal and experience. They rule, check them out!

This corner deli has changed hands at least 4 times in the 1.5 years we have lived down the street from it. So when we saw the grand opening signs, we were not excited. «Another dirty cheap deli with potato chips and 2-liters of soda,» we thought, and decided not to try it. And then, we walked by. And smelled the food. And we could not resist. So we went in. Some history: when I was in 5th grade, I went to a private school where some moms got together and cooked our lunch every day. One day, we had meatball sandwiches. They were amazing. I’ve eaten many meatball sandwiches over the years, but have never been able to find one as good as the moms one I had when I was a kid. Until… Now! Thank you Big Dan’s for the best meatball sandwiches ever, made that morning by Dan’s sister. My husband loves the doo-wop burgers and milkshakes. We’ve ordered from them 4 or 5 times now and everything has been delicious. It’s hard to get excited about the idea of another Italian deli in South Philly, but. did I mention they also have specialty desserts? Pumpkin bread pudding! Brownies! Yum.
