(The gay bar formerly known as Bump) is best during the week, during happy hour and the worst on Saturday night after 11 unless you are also very intoxicated. I love my gubby. We always have fun when we go out. And if there is an actual cocktail made of prosecco and st germaine on the menu, well it is A OK with me. The food(now that it is under new management) is also pretty kick ass. Last night I had a crabcake sandwich and it was all crab! Amazing.(fill in innuendo here) It is much more fun at(bump) when it is not crowded. It is such a weird space that when it gets crowded, it is almost impossible to be able to find a place to chat with your friends. And although I know that this is not the reason that bars are open on Saturday nights, the ergonomics of this place are not really it’s strong suit. I like(bump) but I would rather be at Stir.

So I should know better than to get a glass of wine at a gay bar. However, when I saw they had Malbec I assumed they knew their wine. I assumed wrong. Crowd unwelcoming and venue unfull yet the music played loudly.

My alarm’s set to happy hour because I know the gays are gonna come a’calling. By gays, I mean the gaggle of boys I’m known to romp around town with. Bump is always the starting point, so fellas, if you’re looking for the classiest, most professional guys in town, I suggest you head to Bump for Friday happy hour. The décor is in dire need of a make-over; black and white photographs of naked men in contorted positions or under waterfalls is so 1990s Queer as Folk. It’s under new ownership now, so my fingers are crossed. You can find me there, chatting up the boys my boys want to meet. You say hag, they say hero.

This place is very«Miami Chill». Great atmosphere — good background music. If you miss Happy Hour — the martinis won’t kill the wallet — just injury a bit. The food — well its just food. Had the Phili Cheesesteak roll-ups. Saw some exciting sauce on the side. I was intrigued. I tasted. Ketchup. Plain boring ketchup. You’d think for $ 9 for 2(cut in half) roll-ups they would have cool sauce to dip into.

Was down in Philadelphia this weekend and I don’t know what the deal was, but there was so little energy in the Gayborhood. I guess because it was Memorial Day, but still. SO maybe that lack of energy and the fact that Bump was dead even at 9pm contributed to the general boring sense I got from the place. They serve some great drinks in martini glasses, but not sure they are worth $ 8 in Philly. But whatever, they were refreshing. The bartender was really nice and did do a Great job mixing. But the crowd was sparse and dull, there was no table service(the bartender was the only worker), the music was so bad and put us to sleep. Oh — the bathrooms are super nice. So the 8 of us spent $ 100 for 2 drinks each, lost our momentum from the 45 mins we spent, and it was kind of a drag. Maybe on a busy night it would be have been a 3 star experience.

Love it, the martini are delicious, the service is always funky, upbeat and friendly, the food is great(esp. the calamari). I must say the music sucks ass majorly but someone out there likes it, i guess… I’m down to take a group of friends for happy hour and get pretty tipsy!

Hmmm… As soon as I walked in, I knew that it wouldn’t be my kind of place. It’s too upscale for me. Bump is supposed to be a restaurant and a bar. However, you really do not see a distinction of space between the two. I cannot imagine myself eating at a table and then feeling crotches bumping against my head. Hmmm, maybe that ain’t a bad thing. Spilled drinks… now, that’s a different story. Nah, I’ll stick with DC’s BeBar.

Bump — one of the many places in the Gayborhood– but with quite a different vibe. Last time I was there –the drinks were fantastic and regardless of the music the area had a nice drinking/mingling aspect to it. Crazy flavors of martini’s but so good.

So I am giving Bump as good as it gets for drink specials… otherwise I would just be a fan. I have been going to bump for about 4 years now, and not much has changed except the happy hour is now a dollar more. I did notice this past time that the crowd wasn’t as diverse as I like it but times change :) I can handle the 4 as opposed to 3 dollar martini rate seeing as they still manage to get me nicely tipsy after three or 4(12 dollars for 4 drinks… yes please). Happy hour is 5 – 7, even on Saturdays. Speaking of Saturdays, I was pleasantly surprised the last time I went on a Saturday. Their entrees are half off every Saturday. I am pretty sure that they might have switched chefs, because the food was much better than I remembered. I had Tequila glazed salmon with garlicy leafy spinach and yummy rice. It is hard to find a yucky martini but I will recommend a few that aren’t on the menu currently that they will still make. –The Gay Grasshoper(Tastes like an andes mint) –Key Lime Pie There was a new one that I want to say is mocha? It is amazing. Be careful not to get too many with champagne, you will pay for it in the morning. So if you are planning a night in the gayborhood or the surrounding area, bump is a great place to get tipsy and proceed onward!

If you want to try out a place in the Gayborhood, this is it. This place offers food, drinks, and pretty much a great atmosphere that isn’t full of a bunch of drugged up morons staggering around. I have been to Bump for brunch and dinner, and each time I’ve gone I’ve always been served a great meal. The calamari is delicious. There are happy hour drink specials, and for a martini you really can’t beat the prices they offer. The drinks are always served with a smile. Go. Enough Said.

So many Girl’s Night Out evenings have begun at Bump. Happy Hour here is a great deal– $ 5 rainbow of martinis, any kind of fruity flavor you want. Also, half-price bar menu items during Happy Hour as well, to soak up some of that juice and booze. Trendy queer crowd is friendly and fun, and the service is the same. The last time I requested a «filthy dirty martini», the waiter returned with my drink, which he proclaimed was so dirty, he’d found it «rolling in the gutter». My kind of cocktail.

Who knew you could get brunch at 5:45 on a Sunday evening? And, better yet, the brunch menu would include tortellini with shrimp and asparagus in an Alfredo sauce? I had the privilege of dining with the lovely and colorful Alicia F. and Stacey B. before we caught a showing at the Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and while I was bummed I didn’t get to try any of that amazing calamari I’ve heard so much about, I was able to get a up close and personal view of all that erotic man-art on the walls. Wow. It’s very… manly, in a men who love men sort of way. And to that I say hurrah(and how do they stay so buff and hairless?). The décor was fun and the booth seating offered us the opportunity to people watch along Locust Street. I think we might have been the only girls in there — who knew boys could get so loud after a few rounds of cosmos? Add that to a pulsing techno beat, and it did make it a bit difficult to hear at times. But I can live with that — it was lots of fun and I look forward to going back on a weekend night when there’s dancing and fancy drinks just waiting to be experienced.

When I first walked in, I made a beeline to the front table’s menu. Me: *perusing dishes* Global tapas? Mmm… Girl with me: I think this is a gay bar…(she didn’t know whether that was an issue for me, but wanted to make sure — it isn’t) Me: Huh? *looks up, notices large prints of scantily clad men, the crowds of guys, etc.* Regardless whether Bump is a sausage party(and it isn’t always), it is always a PARTY, and a crowded, popular one.(During Outfest, a male dancer in the front was practically being molested by the appreciative audience.) Recommended for a fun vibe, hip lounge seating, energetic music, and friendly service.

This place beat my expectations. Honestly, based on the name, I expected something a little more on the sleazy side. I was very happy to see that Bump is actually a very nice space. I think the décor is pretty cool and the bartenders for the most part were really nice. I have a preference for gay bars/lounges that are not dumpy, binge drinking hook up joints. So although I arrived pretty late, it was still low-key and a great place for cheap drinks with friends. I look forward to coming back to try the food/brunch.

Oy, what is with gay bars and these tragic double entendre names? I mean, are they basically encouraging you to dance AND do coke here? And I’m no interior designer, but it seems to me if you’re going to have a — ahem — bumpin’ bar going, you might not want to have a carpeted floor. That’s just unsanitary. So why the four stars? Because I actually came here for the food — specifically brunch on Sunday morning — and I must admit despite some low expectations, everything was quite delicious. From the coffee to my crabcake sandwich to the deliciously low price of $ 9.95. Service was attentive if a little confused, but overall a lovely brunch in Philly’s gayborhood, though knowing me, I have a feeling this would be a 3 star if I came back at night.

The first thing I thought of was Vynl — only in Philly. Read: I LOVED it. Bump is this extremely gay friendly restaurant featuring an awesome array of strong martinis, and an interesting & delicious menu of food. I took full advantage of the $ 3 Martinis before 7PM(every night!). The atmosphere was very trendy and the crowd was in their late 20s to 40s. The server told us that this place turns into a cocktail lounge after hours. I’d love to check it out sometime. Any takers? I had the Tequila Honey Glazed Mustard Glazed Salmon — amazing. Something about the mustard and honey made it taste like there was just a hint of wasabi on it. For dessert, I had the pumpkin bread pudding. I don’t remember the name of the martini — but I know it was red, had champagne in it, and I totally recommend it. I give it 4 stars because my server was VERY slow, and they sat me in the corner(we didn’t have reservations). NOONE sits baby in the corner!
