Times I don’t want gelato: –During a snow storm. –When I’m in my hypothermia-inducing office. Times I do want gelato: Every other second of my life. We happened to walk by Capofitto yesterday and stopped in. I’ve had gelato from the other Capogiro locations in the past. While delicious, my cups have never been all too exceptional or return-worthy. The staffer who helped us here was super friendly and offered up samples. I ended up selecting a small cup of the stracciatella and cinnamon. I especially LOVED the cinnamon, which was a total new-to-me flavor. Incredible and so well-balanced! We didn’t try the pizzas here, but I definitely want to return ASAP and update my review.

We discovered Cappofito while staying at the Best Western Independence Park next door. The pistachio and coconut gelato are delicious! The texture is light and flavor is subtle… perfection! It’s after 10:00 p.m.(they close at 10:30 on Friday) and my husband wants pizza so he calls Cappofito and orders a Tartufella pizza. He walks next door and is back within 10 minutes. I can smell the truffle oil as we lift the lid of the pizza box. We can’t wait so we sit in the hotel lobby eating pizza… it’s delicious and highly recommended!

I’m much more acquainted with Capogiro, but I was very curious to learn that the owner was now baking authentic Neapolitan pies in Old City. Upon entering, you find yourself in a gelato and coffee bar, which you must pass to be seated in the back dining room. Although the margherita pie was quite good, I thought the tomato sauce was a bit too acidic. The menu was not that different(or better) than other Neapolitan-style pizzerias in Philadelphia, and I believe Nomad and Brigantessa sling superior pies than Capofitto. However, I reckon I would give Capofitto another shot if I’m ever in the area again, and this time I would save room for the bacio gelato, too.

I’ve been wanting to go Capofitto for a while because HELLO pizza and gelato, and I finally made my dream come true yesterday. The restaurant itself is really cute — gelato in the front, pizza(party!) in the back. Lots of space, classy décor, and I’m always a fan of seeing the actual open fire pizza grill. It was also very bright, which was a nice change from the dim lighting that I think so many places are embracing these days — my parents didn’t need to use their cell phones as mini flashlights to read the menu, which is always a promising sign! Service was a lovely mix of attentive without being overbearing, and our server was incredibly pleasant. When he noticed that most of us were vegetarians(he heard me make a vegetarian-related comment while we were ordering) he made sure to tell us which items were made with chicken stock, and offered to bring us lard-free bread, which isn’t their normal recipe. I so appreciate that kind of recognition and sensitivity to our eating habits. The menu itself is really generous — a handful of apps/snacks, some salads, a soup, a few pasta options, and probably 15 kinds of pizza! Plus a really extensive beer/wine/cocktail list. We opted for the arancini, the eggplant«meatballs,» the house salad, two pizzas, and a calzone. The starters were really good — both the arancini and the«meatballs» had four little fried balls per serving, which were very tasty, but not super filling, and the house salad was also solid — I liked the addition of a few crispy fried onions on top. My parents and I were able to comfortably share two pizzas — we went with the Tartufello and the Genovese. Both were really yummy with unique flavors, and despite having a plethora of ingredients, neither one felt heavy — like we could eat a lot without needing to be rolled out of the restaurant(#winning). But… like some other reviewers have said, the pizza literally feels wet. The middle of the pies were both soaking, for lack of a better term. The crust has no holding capacity, and we really needed to use a knife and fork to eat the«tip half» of the pizza — once you get closer to the crust, you can pick it up, normal style. I don’t think this necessarily made the pizza bad… but it was a bit strange. I’m sure that this really is the authentic style that they’re going for, but it might be nice to give diners a heads-up at some point during the meal that this consistency is normal. Although I didn’t have gelato on this visit because Philly is currently the same temperature as the Arctic Circle, I’ve had Capogiro gelato at other locations and it is truly drool-worthy, so I know it’s a deadly combination to have it offered under the same roof as tasty pizza. Overall, this place is worth a visit — just prepare yourself for the pizza :) (Note: After writing this review, I actually researched«wet» pizza, and turns out, authentic Neapolitan pizza is soggy in the center and usually can’t be «hand held.» So, lo and behold Capofitto knows just what they’re doing and this style of pizza is totally a thing! Mangia!)

Blech. I really wanted to like this place. Décor is great and I’m sure the gelato is good, but the pizza was definitely not up to par. Completely soggy as if a small cup of water was poured on top of it right before serving. I tried to explain to the waitress when she checked on me, but she had a prepared response about the«style of pizza» that was not at all related to the comment I made about everything sliding off in a drippy pile. No thanks.

I hate that this place is so close. Why? Because every time I walk by, I have to step inside, and I never leave without a small gelato. They have classic flavors as well as Nutella and seasonal flavors like egg nog(yes, it is amazing). Consistency is amazing, and the flavors are out of this world. Ive tried gelato in so many cities in the US and, of course in Italy– cue my mention of my two week trip back in the day to establish some cred, and this is one of the best spots. One day I will try the other stuff on the menu, like the pizza, but for now, my pregnant self craves their delicious gelato.

Obviously love Capogiro because if you don’t I don’t think we can be friends, so I have been excited to check out Capofitto. When you walk in you are greeted with a big glass display with all the gelato flavors they currently have that day. Further back are another set of doors that lead to the dining room. We were sat back there and ordered some arancini to start off. Thwy pretty large and the flavors were really good, definitely my 2nd favorite in Philly(my #1 is Nomad). From there we went with the salami calzone and the San Lorenza(sausage and mushroom) pizza. The pizza and calzone were extremely good and we had no trouble finishing them off. Of course since we are there we have to get gelato, I went with the nutella, the apple marscapone, and the kiwi. I think that I liked the nutella best since I am a hazelnut junkie. Overall another solid pizza place, I just wished that I still lived in Old City so I could walk there.

I love a good pizza. I’ve made it at home on a pizza stone and order Caputo 00 flour online so I know how this works. The idea behind this place is good, but not executed well. My pizza was undercooked and the ingredient combination made the pizza too wet. My service was lacking even though it was a slow lunch. Maybe I’ll stop by for gelato in the spring, but for lunch I’ll be going elsewhere.

Prosciutto di Parma pizza was ONPOINT. My friend ordered this and I loved it. I ordered the the benedict version of that from the brunch section. And while I loved that dish too, I felt like the proscuitto was more fresh and flavorful on the pizza. Another friend ordered the nutella calzone. It was HUGE. Really rich dish and it was great but after a few bites, it was getting a bit too much. It’s probably a nice dish to share afterwards as a dessert. But wait? There’s the gelato! Tried all the flavors before finally settling on the dark chocolate and pistachio. They were all great. So creamy and delicious and although their cup size seems tiny, they really pack it to the brim. Excellent brunch/lunch place!

Previously, I have only entered Capofitto for their delicious gelato. Yummm! But figured ‘why not try out their brunch?’. I have to say: it was become one of my top 5 brunch places. First off, the seating area in the back of the restaurant is open and for a 11:00AM Saturday brunch hour it was not too busy at all. The atmosphere was comforting and relaxing and the service was friendly and quick. I am sure the food was definitely cooked to order and nothing was premade! Therefore each bite of my satisfying frittata was blasting with taste. And the potatoes were to die for . Furthermore, the price range for their brunch dishes are good and you receive a generous portion. However, I strayed away from the pizza cause the price seemed steep but they maybe worth it. I would not know. I WILL return for sure to try their other dishes. Yummm I cannot wait. SHOUTOUT: To our waitress Michelina! She was a joy! Very attentive and enjoys a good laugh!

I think was the best pizza I’ve ever had. The TARTUFELLA it was called. Truffle oil, local mushrooms, DOP tomatoes, absolute perfection. I never thought pizza could be so intense. I ate it all by myself, slowly, savoring every folded up bite. Exquisite. I still think about it. I went twice in a row. Great location by my hotel Monaco. Open nice and late. Good people. The staff is very friendly and passionate about gelato. They do deep investigations into what would be best paired with your personality and mood. I wish we had one in Houston My marscapone fig gelato was very creative and real. So packed with wow. The pear was also a delight m fresh, crunchy, real.

Capofitto. you’re killing me here you realize that. Oh man I am perplexed here Unilocal fans. I don’t know what to do, The 2 things I love the most is being served under one roof. The 2 things I love that Capofitto offers you is Gelato and Pizza. Just so we are clear on something here Unilocal fans… I am a pizza enthusiast, I truly love pizza. Let the madness begin! Appetizer : Caponata with fresh Ricotta~ A truly fantastic way to start off any kind of dining experience is to order this Sicilian delicacy. If you are unaware of what«Caponata» is, it is a mixture of fresh vegetables, including eggplant, onion, celery and tomatoes. There is more to this masterpiece that also has olives, capers, fresh basil with pine nuts that needs to make its way to your table. The Ricotta cheese is unreal with the fresh baked in house focaccia bread also added to this party. Main : The Calabrese~ Why should you order this? Let me try to explain to you what we experienced, why this work of art that was baked to perfection in my opinion should be considered. First is the mozzarella mixed with the fresh tomatoes, basil, salami, a touch of extra virgin oil from Sicily that is lightly spread around. I also asked our lovely waitress Jacquelyn if they could add their homemade sausage that had a nice spicy kick to it with the fennel and wine added to their own blend to it. Jacquelyn also made a great recommendation on a white wine that we enjoyed, it was a perfect compliment to our pie. Talk about enhancing those flavors even more! My friends that is what you call a perfect, savory blend that is held on a circumference of deliciousness. That right there will light up, better yet an eruption to your taste buds like it was the 4th of July. Dessert : Gelato~ Capofitto did a solid by adding Capogiro here, which is simply amazing. The perfect dessert to that perfect meal you just experienced. You really can’t go wrong with any of those flavors they have. If you prefer coffee, myself I went a step further and ordered an Affogato. An «Affogato» is where they would add gelato to your cup of espresso. I know bangin right, well I’ll tell you go and add some amaretto to the mix and you my friends have just experienced greatness If you do decide to dine in look for Jacquelyn. She was our waitress who waited on us and made sure we were fully accommodated. She along with the staff will make sure you have a pleasurable time at Capofitto. It may look small, but you have your options at either that beautiful bar, or take it up a notch and dine in the back in a cozy atmosphere. Either way you go, you’ll have a great meal. Go in and enjoy, review is over.

Great Gelato and Brunch, Average Lunch Menu I’ve gone to Capofitto several times for gelato and have been pleased all of those times. I’ve gone for lunch twice, and each time I walk away thinking the same thing: the service is friendly, but the food is overpriced. I don’t mind a pricey lunch; but when it’s a personal pizza or calzone, I don’t expect the amount to be as high as it is at Capofitto. Capofitto is a great brunch secret! They have delicious entrees, Two Leaves and a Bud teas, and a laid back atmosphere at brunch time. They don’t rush you to finish, rather they welcomed my group of friends and me to continue chatting after we finished our meal. I’ve reviewed Capofitto previously for lunch, when I was not as impressed. For brunch, however, this is a great destination!

They caught our attention when we saw a tarp advertising that they were voted as one of the best gelato in the world — yes, in the whole wide world. If that’s the case, we should give it a try since it’s close to one of the location we will visit in PA. It’s a small location along Chestnut Street. They have pizza as well. Restaurant was closed during our visit but we can order food in the bar. We sat at the bar and ordered hot cocoa. The bartender prepared it with full of passion just like the way he prepares his specialities, it came out very coco-licious! We also tried their pizza and it was good too. The service at gelato place was superb. They let us try as many gelato as we can. I want to try them all! Each one has a very unique and original taste. My White Guy loved the Chai Tea. We have to come back the next day for that, unfortunately they have different flavor every single day… so sad. Unfortunately, we don’t live in PA. So, we’ll just keep on dreaming about that Chai Tea gelato, or perhaps find a gelato place that have that flavor.

After exploring Philly in the midst of a downpour, Capofitto was a much needed oasis to dry off with some gelato and coffee. They have fantastic gelato flavors! From the predictable to exotic like spiky rambutan… who’d thought? I ended sharing up a cup of pistachio and mango– both refreshing and natural. Their cappuccino was creamy and strong, just what I needed to re-energize.

Mango gelato. I’m a die hard mango lover and VERY rarely does anything pretending to be «mango flavored» actually taste like the fruit. The gelato here is an exception — I had both pear and mango and they taste exactly like what they claim to be in the most delicious and harmonious way possible. The barista we encountered was also beyond friendly, offering us cups of water, a splash of brown sugar in my [mouth-watering] espresso, and being over all laid back yet extremely nice at the same time. I wish I would’ve gotten her name to include it I this review! This place is super trendy(owned by the same people as Capagiro but a little more upscale looking) and there’s a dine in Italian restaurant in the back. If you’re in the area looking for a treat I highly recommend sweetening your day by stopping by!

I went here recently for dinner on a whim and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. Décor is trendy and service is friendly, but the real draw here is the delicious pizza and gelato. Neapolitan pizza is my favorite type of pie, so I may a little biased here, but Capofitto’s version was one of the best I have had. My girlfriend and I ordered the ‘Diavola’(San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella, spicy Calabrese salami, extra virgin olive oil, pecorino romano, basil) and it was anything but sinister! All ingredients tasted exceptionally fresh and the consistency of the pie was spot on: exactly as a Neapolitan pizza should be. The dough was perfectly moist, soft, and chewy and the sauce and cheese paired well together to create a warm and gooey glue which held the pie together. Tomato sauce tasted homemade and was quite well spiced and seasoned. Salami was also of high quality. The gelato I ordered(half hazelnut /half sweet milk) was top-notch as well. So rich and creamy! Apparently the gelato is from their sister area franchise Capogiro, so I will definitely have to check out one of their stores whenever I am in Philly during the spring or summer. The one small complaint I would make pertains to the ratio of cost to quantity of food. I feel the cost was a bit high for the amount of food I received — $ 16 for a large individual pie and $ 7 for gelato, if I recall correctly. However, given the location and the high quality of offerings, I think that’s to be expected. This is a wonderful establishment and I will hopefully be returning again soon.

Capofitto was the lunchtime destination of my coworker and I during one of the last days of work before the Christmas holidays. We work very close by and had been eyeing the place up for weeks. We walked into the restaurant and were greeted by a large gelato counter, which serves Capogiro gelato, and a bar, with the seating in the back. Behind the tables loomed the kitchen(and the formidable pizza oven). We were feeling fairly hungry, so we decided to split the salsiccia panini and a prosciutto di Parma pizza, which were both excellent choices – for dinner. The portions were enormous, so it was lucky I was so hungry. First, the panini. Thick slices of focaccia cradled a generous helping of spicy pork sausage(heavy on the fennel), which was perfectly juicy. It was delectable, and the side of salad and homemade pickled veggies really stole the show(the green beans were the best of the bunch). Next, the pizza. As evidenced by its name, the pizza was covered in paper-thin slices of prosciutto and tiny, delicate pieces of arugula. The taste was flawless, and the crust was outta this world(chewy and crunchy all at the same time – exactly the way pizza crust should be!). The prosciutto made it difficult to cut the pizza(my only complaint), so I had to forgo etiquette and just use my hands. Both dishes were around $ 13, which was about expected for lunch. I somehow managed to find room in my tummy for some gelato afterward, but it was a close call. It’s hard to say which of the lunch entrees were better… you should definitely go there to decide for yourself.
