I love this place! I wish they had more vegan spread options for bagels and more variety of bagels but besides that it’s the best! Tons of home made baked goods and friendly staff including the owner who are there to chat about your day and help out if you’re in a rush. Also DOTTIESDONUTS. Love it!!!

Let’s just say I would walk 7 blocks just to have a latte here. Perfect all around.

CineMug is a fairly new shop to South Philadelphia and its location inches away from the Tasker Morris subway station couldn’t be more accessible. Although most cities aren’t at a loss for places to get coffee, tea, bagels and sandwiches, they are hard pressed to find places to rent good movies(because who wants anything out of a Red Box?). The selection includes popular new releases, a lot of the classic movies people say«I can’t believe you haven’t seen…» as well as a shelf of everyone’s favorite cult directors sorted alphabetically(Wes Anderson, Coen Brothers, David Lynch, Lars Von Trier, etc). They have some deep cuts that you can’t find through streaming services, and the rates for rentals reflect an era when renting movies was a commonplace act. As a coffee shop, this place gets you coffee and sandwiches that aren’t bad, but also don’t do much to impress. It’s a small space, so the idea that they’ll renovate their«kitchen» and wow you food wise probably isn’t in the cards. If it were my café I’d be doing a different specialty espresso drink daily inspired by some movie you can rent there. But most people don’t come to CineMug for what’s at the front counter; they’re heading straight back to the video library, lost in an impressive selection of cinema and a simpler time when not every piece of multimedia was at their fingertips.

I love it. Perfect place to relax and read, chat, or whatever. The staff have always been extremely nice and welcoming. I make excuses to swing in for some coffee(iced or hot — can’t go wrong).

Big fan of the rental service at CineMug. Was able to rent 3 movies for 5 nights and it only cost $ 10. The selection here is better than what’s available on Netflix, and it was fun to pick out movies in person for a change.

This place filled a must needed void in the broad/tasker area. The coffee is reanimator, and they get there sandwiches from a local shop(try the Godfather). Everyone is nice and friendly, and Dan(the owner) is a great guy.

Read about this place opening up. Came in just for a chai latte and a muffin. Muffin was good but dry. Chai was a little watered down. Nice quiet peaceful atmosphere. I’ll probably give them another shot.

This charming café is as simple as it gets. 1/Drink ReAnimator Coffee. 2/Browse their movie collection of 1,600 movies. 3/Have a Cosmi’s deli sandwich. 4/Rent your favorite DVD. 5/Enjoy a South Street Bagel. 6/Rent some more. 7/Repeat. «Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.» — Leonardo da Vinci Four Unilocal

I’m really excited this coffee shop opened up. I live two blocks away and I love the convenience of it. Friendly staff, cute place, and good coffee. Broad street needed a place like this.

It’s a great addition to Broad St located right next to the Tasker BSL stop. I love that they serve Re-Animator coffee here, one of the best choices around in my opinion. They also serve Cosmis hoagies(which I got and was pretty good), bagels and baked goods. I’ve studied here a few times and have enjoyed the atmosphere. Plus, there are lots of outlets so you dont really have to worry about not being able to charge up. I’m sure I will be frequenting this café. I peeked at the movie selection which seemed cool, I like the concept. I also overheard the staff talking about movie nights and that there is a projector and large screen. The staff have been friendly everytime I go so overall it’s definitely worth a stop in to grab a coffee/tea and check the place out.

Great addition to the neighborhood! I live about a block away from this place and have been lamenting the lack of anything that isn’t a dentist or a tax preparer on this stretch of broad street for ages. Cinemugs serves reanimator coffee(great choice) and light breakfast fair(think bagels, pastries, breakfast sandwiches. They also rent movies in the back and have a pretty decent(if small) selection. Staff was friendly, bagels were fresh, and ambiance is really nice as well. Will be back again for sure!

This place is a great addition in South Philly! I went in here today since I saw the press on it, and I dug it! The staff is very friendly and I was happy to see that the coffee was by Re-Animator. I also got a bagel, and it really hit the spot. The movies in the back for rent was an eclectic mix of mainstream films(ex: Guardians of the Galaxy and The Hobbit) to obscure(ex: Santa Sangre and Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot). I hope this place is here to stay because I will frequent there for coffee and to rent a film!

Wow I’m the first review! This is a great addition to the neighborhood. I know many people scoff at the idea of renting a movie, but there is something really wonderful about it. Even before it was«retro» I always enjoyed the whole process. Comforting. Anyway this has a great vibe, good coffee and I love the idea of the Cosmi’s hoagies. :-)
