I just LOVE the cajun seasoning they use on the crawfish! Although they serve other dishes, I only come here for the crawfish. While their crawfish seem to shrink during off season, the flavor remains consistent. Friendly tip: they don’t serve rice. If you enjoy eating your crawfish with rice like I do, go to the Chinese store next door and order a few containers! Well worth it!

Their sauce is yummy but I think it goes best with crawfish when it’s alive and in season. I also trie their clams, shrimp, and mussels. They were just ok. Best dish is spicy crawfish but it’s only fresh in spring and summer. They will say it’s «live«crawfish all year but I can definitely taste the difference. Five stars during crawfish season, spring and summer, the best in philly. Two stars during fall/winter.

Worst experience, I ordered crab legs tonight and they were pure rubber and tasted funny. I called and the girl was not only ignorant but she talked down to me like I was trash. I have ordered from them before but this will be the last time.

I split a lb of spicy crawfish with my boyfriend along with a side of breaded shrimp and fries. After finishing the crawfish, I was so full I felt like my stomach was going to burst at its seams. It became a struggle to finish the leftover shrimp and fries. The spicy crawfish packs a lot of heat. Be prepared to sweat excessively and make a mess. They place huge rolls of paper towel at every table to help with that. Also wear your bib! I didn’t really think it was important until I looked down after my meal and my shirt was spotted with red oil. Nothing too special about the breaded shrimp or fries. They were sort of an afterthought – a backup just in case the crawfish didn’t fill us up. Once we finished the crawfish, we dipped our shrimp and fries into the leftover broth and it was divine. Definitely go here if you want deliciously flavorful, inexpensive seafood.

I had the Cheese Steak Bomb and the shrimp. The meat in the cheese steak wasn’t really seasoned. The shrimp in the hoagie were fried with their tails on so it made it hard to eat. The shrimp came in a bag cajun style but, having real cajun food, they seemed like the shrimp were just put in the brine but didn’t actually have time to absorb the flavors. I may at some point try the crawfish and change my review but so far not so good.

Great little mom and pop restaurant. The fresh seafood is a must have along with the special wings. The seasoning taste great in all of the boils and I love the addition of sausage corn and potatoes. Haven’t had a chance to try any of the fried seafood but they all look good. The seating area is a bit small but I’ve never had trouble getting a table. There is only street parking around the area so that’s either hit or miss. Make sure you don’t park in the shopping center parking lot across the street because I’ve heard of people getting towed.

Wish I could give 0 stars! My boyfriend and I ordered a meal at 8:35pm and it was expected to arrive at 9:35pm. After calling at 10:15, he receives an email precisely at 10:16 saying that the order has been canceled. Really?! Huge inconvenience. Now it’s late and we don’t have food. 0 stars!

Stars are for the tasty spicy crawfish! Have been back twice to order this. Ordered by the pound and definitely request the spicy level if you can otherwise the mild level was a bit overwhelmingly sweet. Love the corn and sausage that comes with the order. It was pricey(~12/lb ish?) compared to the abundant crawfish places in California that sells it $ 8/lb. The shrimp special(dozen shrimp per order) is a mix between end seasoned Cajun spicing and shrimp cocktail which was kind of a confusing in between dish to us. The seasoning wasn’t strong enough so the shrimps were really bland without the cocktail or butter sauce. I wish it had that fresh sweet shrimpy kick that a shrimp lover like me craves. Other menu items have been disappointing. Their fried seafood items didn’t taste as fresh as we’ve been spoiled with at other places. This place makes me really miss home in a sad way but will do for now as our go-to perhaps as we get crawfish cravings a lot :)

Driving past Dex and Syd’s a few months ago, I noticed the ‘fresh boiled crawfish’ sign and stored it in my mental Rolodex. This week, while looking for a more interactive meal, I brought a bunch of friends over for a communal seafood experience. Dex and Syd’s is largely a take out sandwich shop, with a menu of cheesesteaks and burgers. The more unique offerings though, are the seafood platters and boiled seafood by the pound. With our bibs on, we were ready for the crawfish. We ordered a pound of mild and a pound of spicy($ 12 a pound). Both come with corn, potatoes, sausages, and the bright red mudbugs. It was fun tearing the clawed bodies apart and we enjoyed our bits of crawfish meat. But really, this is more about the messy, experience than a substantial plate you’ll crave a week later. Dex and Syd’s is BYO and this goes great with some beer. A pound of plump, nicely cooked shrimp was slightly more meaty, but I didn’t love that they leave the vein in. Knowing that crawfish are not meaty creatures, we also ordered some fried plates to fill us up. Dex and Syd’s «special» wings–(6 for $ 5.25) were meaty and fried with a nice batter, though I did miss sauce. I would try the standard(less special?) buffalo wings next time. A clam strip platter(not pictured) came with tasty little fried clam bits and very decent french fries. If I weren’t in the communal meal mood, I would probably go for the«Steak Bomb» a cheesesteak topped with popcorn shrimp.

Be sure and tell the owner Ricky hello from me. Had a delightful time on my first visit here. Cute little place tucked in between various Vietnamese businesses off Washington. Once inside, prepare to be blown away by buttery, garlic-y, scrumptious crawfish. While they were still somewhat small since we are early in the season, they were FRESH! They were so good I had two pounds at $ 12.99/each. Followed it up with a 20oz can of Coke and tons of paper towels! I will be coming back here all season. Can’t wait to try other menu items from this local, hard-working entrepreneur.

My daughter and i decided to try some place new… we read all the reviews and thought the food would be good to try. My daughter had a cheesesteak which she enjoyed. However i had the meatball parm. The bread was nice and toasty and the meatballs were a nice size but the sauce they used tasted bland and flat like a jar sauce from a dollar store… no italian seasonings no salt, no garlic, no nothing. I will have to try something else if we order here again

The crawfish was big. However, I wasn’t feeling the seasoning of it. The seasoning has way too much garlic. The sauce was too sweet for my liking. BUT, it was spicy. I did like the corn that it comes with. That was my favourite thing to eat in the crawfish bag. The clam dish was steam in nothing but pure butter and garlic. Feels like I was drinking a teaspoon of butter everytime I picked up a clam to eat. The food was reasonably priced. $ 13/lb for crawfish. $ 9/lb for clam

The crawfish here is delicious. I have written a review for these guys before and all I can say is that these guys know what they’re doing. The boil is buttery and very rich in flavor — exactly how a boil should be. I really enjoy the fact that these guys take their time with their food and brought up back to Philly a nice Southern experience. Thanks guys. For everyone else reading this, check these guys out.

Considering I initially found this place close to the end of the season, I decided to wait and come back when mudbugs are in season to really experience what Dex & Syd’s has to offer. Crawfish – buttery, succulent, with lots of flavor to suck out of the head. The owner has gotten to know me and the boyfriend, so she keeps replenishing our limes for our dipping sauce. By the way, they are the NICEST people. Seriously. My niece was with us on one trip so of course she wanted cheese fries and chicken wings. Surprisingly, the chicken wings are amazing! I’ve been thinking about these wings ever since and have ordered it twice more just in case it was a fluke or because I was just THAT hungry when I ate a chicken wing but really… crispy, juicy, moderate-portion considering price. I need more!

I very rarely give one stars reviews. If ever. However, this evening I decided to order from here. Being extremely hungry I assumed anything would do. Delivery was fine. On time(a little earlier actually). However, the food was almost unedible. I tried the wings which were crispy– but didn’t come with a sauce. Maybe I’m not a wing person… so perhaps i’m wrong here. But every time I’ve ordered wings in my life they’re in a sauce or come with a sauce. Right? Now the cheesesteak. I ate two bites and could eat no more. DONOT get the CHEESESTEAK. I’ve had better Cheesesteaks in California, which is sad being this is a Philly place. The Cheezewhiz didn’t taste right, there was too much of it, and the meat just tasted terrible. Maybe I was supposed to try the seafood? Either way I have been left hungry with this place, and I’m usually the non-picky one.

Yay… More places with fresh crawfish! The seasoning here is great! It didn’t feel as heavy as some other places I have tried(so, no going home with a major stomach ache bc of heavy butter trying to be broken down in my belly). Crawfish kept getting stuck in it’s shell, but I think it’s bc it’s out of season and the crawfish they are getting in is farm raised instead of coming from the sea. I didn’t get to try the corn that came with it, but my sister said that the corn is frozen corn and not fresh. It’s corn season! Get some fresh corn. Also, the sign for crawfish says it comes with corn, potatoes, and sausage. I did not receive any potatoes in my batch. :-(So sad! Other items we ordered were fried calamari and the special wings. The«special» wings weren’t all that great. She said it was seasoned overnight(or something along those lines) then breaded and fried when someone orders them. They were on the bland side and kinda chewy… weird. The calamari was alright. I thought it was a bit overdone. I will def be back, but it’ll be just for crawfish. Mmmm!

3.5 stars if Unilocal allowed it. I grew up in the south and I’m a crawfish addict! My family and I would have weekly crawfish and crab boil and crawfish joints are plentiful in the South so believe me… I do know what GOOD crawfish taste like. It’s hard to find fresh crawfish in Philly, so I was really excited to find that this place has it year round! I ordered 2 pounds for take out just to try it out. The crawfish smelled amazing and they were good size. It was cooked to perfection– neither under/overcooked. If only it had a bit more flavor I would be a happy, happy lady! I had to reboil it with my own seasoning to make it satisfy my taste buds. I’m hoping it was just a bad day and that next time would be better. Otherwise, the owner is SUPER nice and they deliver too! Seafood delivered to my door is a dream come true. I really do hope this business succeeds. I’ll give this place another try as the crawfish is reasonably priced. If anything I’ll just touch it up at home. The only other crawfish that I really enjoyed was Catahoula, but it’s ridiculously pricey at $ 19.99/lb for barely 1lb of crawfish w/some corn & sausage! Sure tasty tho! Chris Jazz’s Café has all-you-can-eat crawfish during crawfish season, but it was way bland. Dex & Syd if you’re reading this– please use FRESH garlic and good butter. If you’re saving on cost maybe cut out the sausage that comes with it but don’t skimp out on fresh especially garlic. It would make such a difference!

What a great new spot for queens village! I had the catfish with fries and my friend had the crawfish. My catfish was fried and came with French fries and coleslaw. My piece of fish was gigantic and well worth the under ten dollar price tag. The catfish was tender and the breading was light, crunchy and flavorful. The crawfish is really where this place excels. They were so good and fresh, served in a huge portion. The seasoning was perfectly salty and peppery to perfection. The owners are very kind and warm. Ill be back and it’s only around the corner from my house. I just wish they were open later.

Came in late one night and didn’t notice they suppose to close at 8. Walked in the owner still welcome us. I ordered crawfish and fried calamari. It’s been a while since I can taste some good crawfish like this. The calamari is just the way you want it. My boy friend ordered spaghetti with meatballs. He finished it in a heartbeat. Although they said they don’t take tip but I honestly think they deserve it. Excellent food and service and it a BYOB. Definitely will come back again soon of course not when they almost close :)
