We popped in after some hunger wandering and their $ 5 burger hit the spot. We’ll certainly be back soon

Excellent beer selection and service and of course, as everyone loves, the burger special can’t be beat. Great neighborhood bar.

They have a very good cheeseburger for 5 $. That was the main reason for my visit. And it was worth it. Simple, easy burger. The place was almost empty when we walked in, which I had no problem with. My problem was that it was almost silent. It was uncomfortable until the barman turned on the old record player. The crowd got a bit more lively later and things picked up. Overall it was an average experience.

If I still lived in Philly, I would be here every week. Fountain Porter was lively at 5pm on the day after Christmas. Their beer list is still great. And since I left Philadelphia in Winter 2012 they have added food! Glad to see that the place has survived and continues to serve great beer in a great space.

Not bad… I like the beer selection. We were there a couple of times.

So I was in the area buying tortillas, and decided to stop here for a quick drink because I had heard great things about this place. The outside reminds me of bars in Williamsburg, same neon signs that are slightly hipster. Inside, the bar is small with a bigger room in the back. I decide to order a Kenzinger, for $ 3(rare find), since I had never heard of it before, must be a local beer. Interesting flavor, the rest of their beers seemed pretty weird too. The food,(which I didn’t try), was pretty well priced, $ 5 burgers? Small menu compared to their large draft selection, but I’m sure it’s great. They have vinyl music, and this spot is great for trying out new beers, but overall I didn’t find that kick I was looking for to keep me coming back.

Beers are very pricy. The veggie burger sucks, but the fries were really good. The draft list is varied enough but they don’t show you what kind of beer each one is. We had to look it up on google every time. The lighting sucks and the chairs are uncomfortable.

Vinyl. Weird beers. Pickles. A cool bar on the smaller side that plays the record gamut of highlife music to Steve Miller Band. Nice for trying something new and wallowing by a window or barside with some esoteric piney tasting potion or malty thymey curiosity. I tried a friend’s sour here. It was pink, smelled like bleu cheese and tasted like a raspberry flavored kombucha drink. They were into it but idfw sours. That might be your thing? There’s usually kenzinger if you just want A Beer.

I’m judging it only as a bar here because I didn’t get to try any food. Frankly, I was unimpressed. I heard so many great things about this place and was very excited to go. Incredibly disappointed. A few things that bugged me: 1) The staff was unfriendly. Hard to get a drink even though no one was at the bar and the guy seemed pissed that it took me more than 6 seconds to decide what I wanted. They also yelled at people for«clapping». Give me a break … it’s a bar. 2) Not nearly enough space in this place. You’re popular and you get crowded … come up with a better space solution. The back room just wasn’t laid out correctly to maximize space. We left earlier than planned because it was just too crowded and WAY too hot. 3) The beer just wasn’t very good, and it was very expensive. I got a pumpkin beer that was 8 $ and thought it was pretty disgusting. I’m not a «beer person» but I honestly could barely get it down. Everyone else was bummed with their selections, too.

Great neighborhood bar! Drinks and food are solid. Ordered the $ 5 burgers and they are pretty good for $ 5. Cocktails are pretty good, on the stronger side(good or bad for some). Great beer selection of course. Ambiance is great at the bar, they have sit down seating in the back as well, but that can pretty loud, which is okay when out for happy hour or drinks. It’s a great neighborhood bar, doesnt look like a divey place(stylish) but feels like a dive bar, I think do well with that mix.

The burger. What more to say that hasn’t been said. It’s $ 5 folks, don’t go in over thinking it. In it’s simplicity are the exemplary traits. The bun being potato, is just hearty enough to stand-up to the juices leaching out with each bite. The sear on the patty is crisp, maillard-reaction in effect. I don’t like«salad» on a burger so mine was just meat and cheese. That was enough. The fries are a fantastic complement to this burger. Wash it all down with a Founders Mosaic and you’re set. Service was spot on. If you don’t like this place, I don’t like you.

Not a whole lot to say. It’s just a good bar, with a good burger, and a friendly staff. A little on the dark and dreary side at times, but hey, sometimes that’s how a good bar should be. They typically play good music, have adequate seating(except for maybe Thursday-Saturday nights) and can we mention the burger one more time? It’s totally delicious, and only five bucks. I suggest you get two, because you WILL want another one when you get to your second round. I would five-star this place if they had(just a few) outdoor tables.

Surprise! Surprise! This gem in South Philly is amazing and caught me off guard when I entered the bar. Fountain Porter reminds me of the local bars in Northern Lib, it’s trendy and clean. The draft beer selection is great but I think the tap should be checked. My beer wasn’t as cold as it should have been and the head on my beer was lacking. The barmaid was friendly and attractive, the patrons seem fairly nice. For food, I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, both were delicious. I chose the Neshaminy Cream Ale beer and Maker’s Mark whiskey as my beverages. Street parking is horrible but it’s South Philly and there was some construction detours during the weekend. I’d recommend this place to others and will use it as one of my favorites.

I came here tonight with a bunch of friends after hearing about the«$ 5 burger». We walked in and took to the seats along the window because no tables were available(take a note parties of 4+). You go right up to the bartender, order and pay in one shot, which is pretty efficient if you ask me. The burgers are tasty, a little small but I’d definitely go back!

This is a place I was skeptical about going into but finally built up the courage to test it out. It’s around the corner from the apartment so convenience is something that was on their side. I got a seat at the bar and their were two gentlemen bartenders working. It had a decent crowd inside with some music playing. I enjoyed the vibe I got when I sat down. It reminds me of a place I used to hang out at in NYC called Pianos expect without the dance floor. The bartender helped me pick a draft beer and I enjoyed it so ordered two. The weird thing is I seen them serve wine to another patron in a regular cup, never seen that before but I guess there’s a first for everything. There’s a back room where you can sit down at a table if your more comfortable doing that. The prices for alcohol are reasonable for sure. I am going to come back here for sure. I didn’t get to try the burgers out here yet but will next time. I heard you get a good deal so why not! I think a lot of regulars come here because it has a neighborhood vibe to it.

I have to say, I love a lot about this place. I’ve been here a few times and the atmosphere, food selections and music are all to my liking. In fact, on those merits easily four+ stars. What really knocks it down for me though is their beer selection. As a frequent traveler and craft beer drinker, I know the quality of the beer that comes from the Philly region. For some reason though, you’ll can never find it here. Names like Victory, Yards, Dogfishhead… Good luck finding anything from them here. Maybe 1 of them if you are lucky! In alot of ways this bar epitomizes the mediocrity that Philadelphia can be. Just order a Kenzinger from a tap here. Do I need say anymore?

$ 6 super tasty veggie burgers, solid $ 3 fries and a rockin’ beer list? I’m so thrilled my friend moved to South Philly and not too far from this spot. The service is solid, the folks that work there are attentive and nice. The customers? Generally more dude-based but that’s not big deal. They decorated for the holidays but in general the place is nice and dimly lit, the bench tables in the back were perfect for my friend’s birthday get-together, and I can’t wait to visit again in a week. Hey Fountain Porter, keep on keeping on.

Solid! My fiancé suggested tacking a five dollar burger date on to our annual tradition of Christmas tree shopping in South Philly, so I happily agreed. Last night was my first visit to Fountain Porter. It’s a cozy neighborhood bar with lots of stools in the bar area and some seat-yourself tables in the back. The menu is small and direct: five dollar cheeseburger, three dollar fries, assorted pickled vegetables and some cheese and charcuterie. We both went for the burger, fries and a side of dill pickles. A pint of Kenzinger was a very reasonable three bucks, and the rest of the beer list was very well rounded with something for everyone. The burger tasted great and was nicely sized — not too huge but large enough to satisfy. The fries were perfectly crisp, and the pickles were tangy and spiced just right. Also, the bartenders were really on top of things and they were both nice guys. I see a return trip in my future.

This is a really chill bar right off of Passyunk. The crowd is similar to just about everywhere that is considered a dive bar(hipsters and drinkers). The bartenders here always take good care of you. Downfall is their disgusting bathroom. Maybe time to invest in an upgrade.

If your only reason to go to a bar is beer, then this is the place to go. If its food you’re looking for, go down the st to Watkins eatery, or over to Passyunk for the many bars with food there… evidently this place is a throwback to the beer and shot bars of the 50s, albeit a better collection of beers… Went back for a second visit… still a major beer bar… which is ok… the bartender did know how to make a decent old fashioned… we had the burgers medium rare and the French fries well done and I have to say they may have been the best $ 5 burgers we ever had… cooked perfectly and there was a crust or something that was delicious! Fries well done perfectly… this place is the place to go if you have a burger and a beer jones… which we have at least once a month!
