It’s a Mexican restaurant owned by Chinese people, and that’s what it tastes like. I had a chicken burrito and chicken tortilla soup. Wouldn’t return.

I recently visited Fresco Tortilla for lunch. Let me begin by clarifying the address, as Unilocal’s map shows the location wrong(map shows it at 19th& Market). The address listed is correct(200 S. Broad), which is in the Bellevue(corner of Broad & Locust). Fresco Tortilla is in the food court in the Bellevue’s lower(basement) floor. They have a large menu hung above the counter, however the cashier instructed me to take a look at their printed take-out menu which is a bit more up to date. They also had a few signs on the counter advertising their specials. It took me a while to decide what to order, as their menu is quite extensive. They offer tacos, nachos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, salads(served in tortilla shell), soups, etc. I ended up ordering the 3 chicken flautas, which was one of their specials, and a side of tortilla chips. Their flautas are chicken rolled in tortillas, which were then fried and topped with cheese, sour cream & pico de gallo, with lettuce & tomato on the side. The tortilla chips were thick & crunchy, with just the right amount of salt, and tasted homemade. My whole meal was amazing! SO, so good! With every order you’re able to help yourself to two containers of condiments(salsa, sour cream, jalapeños, etc.). It did take a little bit longer than expected to get my food, but I attributed that to the fact that my food was being prepared fresh. Overall, the food is delicious! I’m looking forward to coming back to try more menu items. The only ‘negative’ comments is that it did take over 10 minutes to get my food, so if you’re in a time-crunch, don’t go here.

I don’t know what to say. I ordered the chorizo burrito. What I got is tasty. It’s just not really Mexican. At first, I thought they’d given me beef instead of chorizo — but, turns out they gave me some other sausage, other tha chorizo. This was definitely not chorizo. There was a fresh small salad on the side of the to go order(same container) — all cut lettuce with two tiny pieces of tomato. The rice was a little mushy. .. there were black beans athe the bottom, they were fine. .. but, this is just odd. I’m writing this as I’m eating, and I have to say, once again I’m not even sure this is sausage. Maybe it is a mix of sausage, beef(there’s definitely a few pieces of chopped up beef). .. I’m just confused. I don’t think they could have gotten my order mixed up with someone else. .. I was the only customer. No one waiting for food, no one ordering food. Just me. And, seriously — don’t burritos usually have a tortilla? Mine was naked. And ashamed.

Got the pork burrito on special. The pork tasted like chinese food. Not a bad thing, but a little weird. I had a hard time getting the whole thing down because of the taste. Still, not repulsive — just odd.

Fresco Tortilla replaced the corner spot occupied by Maui Dog’s. It features reasonably priced, semi-Americanized Mexican food– which is not necessarily a bad thing. The counter service is friendly and speedy. The menu features the usual suspects. I like to order yucca fries, though I usually end up not loving them due to dryness. Yucca is starchy and when not prepared right it can taste like a potato’s great grandmother. I ordered them here anyway($ 2.50), and was pleasantly surprised. The fries were crispy on the outside and moist inside. The spicy chipotle dipping sauce went perfectly. Tacos are bigger than your average and prepared in the American style; with lettuce and tomato. A steak taco($ 2.70) had well seasoned meat, but was a little overcooked. On special were tilapia tacos($ 3), either grilled or crispy(fried). The fried taco, with 3 pieces of battered fish, tasted better than it looked. The fish tasted fresh. The batter was slightly heavy, but in an enjoyable fast food sort of way. Usually I need 3 tacos to make a meal, but as I said, Fresco Tortilla tacos are stuffed and 2 of these was quite enough. Besides tacos, nachos, and quesadillas, Fresco Tortilla offers burritos, including breakfast burritos. I was most tempted by the chorizo, egg, and avocado breakfast burrito. A little more cheese would have been nice, but there was a generous amount of avocado, egg, and spicy chorizo. If you can finish this, you will be full all day. It may not be the most authentic, but Fresco Tortilla is a good option for fast, affordable Mexican food in Center City.

For $ 3.25 I got a cup of the most watery, corn filled tortilla soup ever. It was basically chicken broth with a little chili sauce mixed in, a few pieces of dark meat chicken, a lot of corn and three small tortilla chips mixed in. It was not very flavorful or satisfying. I also ordered a side of tortilla chips. $ 1.79 for a mini take-out container that had greasy, cold chips. For $ 0.30 more I could got to the store and get a 10 oz. bag of far greater quality. Very disappointing. The staff at the counter seemed very confused even though there were only two people waiting. Apparently, they were so confused that they messed up a woman’s order, and they struggled to get the right items for her.(She left in a huff with only a refund and not much else). The menu looks reasonably priced, but I wouldn’t go back unless invited by a friend or co-workers.

At last! Inexpensive, authentic, and delicious fish tacos in this vicinity. Super friendly staff. They use mahi mahi, not cheap, flavorless talapia. Salsas are fresh, as are all ingredients. You can distinctly taste the fresh cilantro, onion, and other contents of your taco, and they DONOTUSERICE to fill you up with the cheapest ingredient, while skimping on the good stuff. If you really like fast tacos, do yourself a favor and skip the faker chains(Q-Doba-chotile) and head downstairs to this little place. Your taste buds will thank you!
