Wow… I never knew this place was even there! I think that is actually hurting them immensely. It’s a byob which is great and there is no cork fee. I went here during a big phillies game and because there was nobody but is in the place they out the game on for me. The only reason it was empty was because it was kind of late. I just thought the staff were really nice and hospitable. The staff are all Japanese and the place has a real authenticity that can be hard to find. Fuji San was relatively cheap and good. I had four pieces of fish as well as a few rolls which were great. Their salmon and tuna were right in point. We had an immense amount of sushi as well as tempura and wen desert. The total bill at the end was 40 some dollars. I was shocked. In the city the bill would have been double if not more for the exact same stuff. This place destroys places like umai umai in Fairmount and even gives some other trendy spots a good run for the money. Now the problem is that you are all the way up the Roosevelt blvd and it is far from charming. The outside is depressing. I mean it is actually a really cute place inside. They have a lovely little sushi bar and a handful of tables. It is small and charming inside. If you are in the far né and want good sushi, Fuji is for you. I wouldn’t drive all that way from downtown though. Great food, lovely staff… Definitely a home run!

Fuji San is convenient to people who live close by making mediocre at best Chinese food. Their sushi is a waste of life. It’s a joke. Try somewhere else for that. The delivery I got 2 weeks ago was late, soggy and disgusting. I don’t like when people deliver chinese food in a styrofoam container. It makes everything sweat and turn soggy. This place is lame.

Best sushi in the NE Philly area. Small intimate place. nothing fancy… BYOB…friendly staff. a little more money. but worth it! Try this place you won’t be disappointed. Went back today after was told was just renovating… here it’s under new name Sumo Sushi and new management… not the same… they are doing same thing ever other place is doing. half off and buffet. not impressed

Great sushi and can’t beat the prices. I’ve never had a bad meal here.

I stopped here with a girlfriend after the spa to grab a bite to eat. It’s a quaint little place near the Party City(that closed down). We went on a Monday night and it was pretty quiet inside. The service was good and the sushi came out fairly quickly. They accommodated our request for sauces on the side. The fish was decent. Prices are average and it’s a BYOB. The location is a bit out of the way for me, so I’d probably stick to another sushi joint.

Small joint with very nice staff! Dinner entrees are on the pricey side but you get your money’s worth. Cheap, delicious sushi as well. Their basic veggie rolls are only 2.99!

Ordered some takeout the other night and was pretty surprised by how cute this place is inside. I’ve driven by many times and always thought it looked pretty sketchy. After reading reviews of fellow Unilocalers I decided to give it a whirl. I got a California and Spicy Tuna roll. Both were pretty good — fresh fish, held up well, rice wasn’t gummy, and lots of sesame seeds. Prices were average($ 9.50 for both) and I felt the sushi was well worth it. My only complaint is the side cup of spicy mayo I requested was tiny, like real tiny. But I asked for a second and it was all good. If I’m up in the area I would order from them again for sure.

Went to Fugi San for the first time with my 3 y/o daughter and girlfriend and LOVED it! The food was fresh and excellent, the décor beautiful, and the staff friendly. They even work with food allergies and altered a dish for my daughter. :) On top of all of that they have«Baby Chopsticks» so your child can learn to use them. I was very impressed and will definitely be back.

Small and nicely decorated dining room presided over by what seems to be a very accommodating husband and wife team. The fish I had was fresh and tasty, the miso was good, and I was all-around pleased with the meal. I would certainly return. The only disappointment — it’s BYOB and I didn’t know beforehand. A cold beer would have been nice with the sushi.

The place is owned and operated by Chinese-Vietnamese people, they don’t know a thing about Japanese cuisine. I’ll start with the awful sushi. I have eaten authentic sushi before and this simply pales in comparison. The most important ingredients to good sushi are rice and fresh fish. The rice they use here is overcooked Jasmine rice, not sushi rice. I know because I eat Jasmine rice EVERYDAY as a Chinese person. The fish, eel in my case, tasted as stale as could be. I normally adore eel but this is the first time I regretted ordering an eel roll. My friend’s miso soup was the instant powdered kind, we could tell because the powder simply refused to dissolve. He also got a pork cutlet, also served with Jasmine rice, that was completely tasteless. The service was fine but their English is awful. I found it annoying that they decided to congregate near the sushi bar and speak loudly enough for me to decipher what they were saying in Chinese. The décor was a failed attempt at being japanesey and the lighting was way too dim. I had a hard time seeing the color of my food, which may be part of their tactic to disguise their old ingredients. In conclusion: Do not eat at this place if you are looking for good Japanese food, there are better ones in the area. Although all of them are operated by Chinese people, they’re still 10 times better than this one.

Fuji San is a pretty good sushi place in NE Philadelphia. They remembered me the second time I came — what I ordered, how long it’s been. That’s quite special, considering business isn’t slow. In addition, the service is attentive and quick. Everything I’ve tried has been fresh and tasty. It’s not the best around, but it holds its own. Always artistic presentation. The price is standard-borderline-expensive.

A long standing favorite. A no frills dining experience that offers great sushi and byob. Lunch is the better deal, with a bento box that’s incredible. Six california rolls, six sushi, two gyoza, rice, salad and miso soup.

I has the sushi deluxe which was 10 pcs tuna roll, salad and soup. Salad was good along with soup. Had one of the special rolls which was pretty good. The fish was ok and acceptable but not a 10. Maybe 8 out of 10. Ok place if you need a sushi fix!

PROS: Who would have ever thought there’d be a good sushi place in Northeast Philadelphia? I then discovered this place. Very friendly, accomodating staff and not brutally expensive. Great to even go there by yourself. Sushi is very fresh and high quality. CONS: If only they were in a better location.

This is a great little place for sushi in the North East. My husband and I love sushi and finding a quality place with reasonable prices is not so easy out here in the ‘burbs. We had a date night without the kids and we were not disappointed when we tried this local BYOB mom & pop. There were obvious regulars there chatting it up with the veteran waitress. She knows her stuff and is pleasantly animated. The ambience is open yet cozy, with a nice touch of modern lighting. And yes, there is indeed a small sushi bar to sit and watch the chef. Finally, that brings me to the food. We started off with beef tataki(not on the menu) and it was pretty good. I prefer mine drenched in ponzu sauce and I could barely find any, but it was prepared with it, cooked well, presented nicely and with a spicy ginger garnish on a mountain of that shredded white root/salad stuff. It wasn’t prepared how I’m used to but it was good. The tuna sashimi was deliciously fresh, as well as the salmon. We had a wonderful spicy salmon roll with a great crunchiness inside. The spicy tuna roll was rolled in tobiko and had a unique nuttiness, I’m guessing from sesame. The yellowtail scallion was by far our favorite, classic and tasty. My eel avocado roll was nice too. I usually order a Saba(mackerel) sushi, as it’s my favorite, but as the only downer I can think of about this place, it was a little mushy, not as firm as I like. It is possible that they were nearing the end of the supply and it just wasn’t that fresh, in my case. I don’t think mackerel is that popular. But over all, as I recall my satisfying large cup of green tea, I would go back for some decent casual sushi anytime. PS. It’s a BYOB

This is my favorite sushi place in the NE, and I’ve eaten here an taken out several times. The fish is always fresh, they have nice house rolls, and the price is excellent. My hands down favorite thing about this place is the service. As soon as you walk in, you get greeted by all of the staff and they make you feel at home. One time the hostess actually came out front to see my new car, and another time she took my toddler on a walk around the dining room and everyone was so nice to him. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is in the area.

By far the best combination of classic Japanese sushi cuisine, price, ambiance, quality, and service in NE Philly. Never had a problem getting seated, never was disappointed with cook’s creations. Used it for a casual dinner for two, for a lunch for a group of 10 and for take out.
