Friendly, reliable, clean, convenient. What more could I ask for.

We live close to Garrisons Grocery, and it’s always my first choice corner store if it’s open. I like the selection here, and I find the folks working in there friendly and helpful. However, the store hours are tough, as they close pretty early and aren’t open Sundays. I was pleasantly surprised when they were open one Sunday after one of the many snowstorms especially since we weren’t really feeling like making the walk to Thriftway through the piles of snow. All in all, though, a corner store to rely on for the selection(not the hours).

Garrison’s is my corner store, where I go for that emergency half gallon of milk or dozen eggs. Or bacon.(Mmm … bacon.) But boy oh boy are their prices high. I know the little mom & pop shops are always higher than the big box grocery stores but this place is definitely one of the higher-priced ones I’ve experienced. Will it keep me from picking up the occasional breakfast grocery supply there? Probably not. But if you live in the neighborhood and need something on the fly, expect to spend nearly $ 10 for eggs and milk. Seriously. On the upside(and the reason for the four star rating), the store is clean and pretty well-run. The owner is a very friendly, genuinely nice guy. Talk about service with a smile. It warms my heart. There’s also this older woman from the neighborhood who hangs out at the store regularly, talking to customers and just generally being friendly – a rare occurance in Fishtown. And without fail, she always asks how my husband is doing(I’m not married!). Hee hee. Also, every once in a while you can find a loaf of delicious rye bread(I’m guessing it came from a bakery nearby?) hidden alongside the Strohman Family White Bread. Props for that, Mr. G. I like Garrison’s despite the prices. I’m glad it’s half a block away. PS. They have tasty Boar’s Head deli meats, if you’re into sandwiches and stuff. I am.
