The food was horrible. The place was dark and grungy looking. Hands down the worst buffet I’ve ever eaten at. I would recommend Ruby Buffet or Teppanyaki Buffet instead.

zeros stars !! the food is fairly good, but in the summer season they bring HUGE busloads of Asians to eat there, especially for sunday lunch(early dinner) The people who are«running» this place do NOT have a clue !! They are obviously very money-hungry, greedy folks who let more people in this place than it can actually handle ! Today, people were fighting over tables/chairs and even trying to take over tables where people were already seated – how disgusting and revolting !! I read the other reviews and agree about the place not being clean, etc. I really think that someone should report them to the Philadelphia L and I and have them shut down !! What a disgrace and what greedy, greedy people !! The owner should be ashamed !!!

The service could be better. The food was alright, some were too salty, some needed salt, but majority was good. Do not eat their sushi though because it has been sitting there since the morning and I am not sure if it is chilled the last time I ate it. Their dessert options were basically cake squares & ice cream. Not much of a selection.

Stopped here with a friend over the weekend hoping to get some quick and easy lunch. This place is just disgusting. Filthy, dirty and not good. The food was plentiful but mostly everything I ate except for the soup was downright gross. Everything was chewy and not quality at ALL. With so many places this was an obvious mistake. Go elsewhere, save $ thank me later.

My class and I went here in «celebration of Chinese New Year»(laaaate.) This place is good for groups. The cold bar is repulsive, the melons had specks of dirt on it, the spoon for the custard was laying on the tray for the Jell-O. The hot bar was okay I guess, the food doesn’t taste fresh. After the reviews that i read here, I took the advice NOT to eat the sushi. The service is terrible, it took us atleast a good 10 minutes for the waiter to bring in another pitcher of soda. Don’t even get me started on the icecream bar. The scoops are kept in murky water, I didn’t even give the icecream a try. The bathroom smells, they didn’t bother to maybe supply the room with some air freshener. I had to breath through my mouth.

The last time I visited Grand King Buffet was in the early part of this year. It was atrocious then; the reviews from August lead me to believe the verdict is still the same. I tried this place twice thinking that I must have just come at an odd time between lunch and dinner. The second attempt during prime lunchtime was even worse. The atmosphere: Repugnant, seedy, dark. The food: Bland, mushy, lacking of taste even by buffet standards. The portions: The most generic American-Chinese fast food was available, i.e. no real selection. But what was there looked like it had been there all day and overnight and then reheated the next day. The verdict: Never again. If Chinese buffet in Pennsport is what you crave, you would be better suited to drive or walk the short distance to the comparably priced Ruby Buffet on nearby Delaware Ave. It is superior in every aspect.

I can’t give this place a 5– or 4-star review, because I admit, it is pretty seedy. I say that if you want cheap Chinese food go to… uh Chinatown? However, I do visit this place occasionally when shopping in South Philly and the IKEA hot dog and frozen yogurt just won’t cut it. It’s quick and cheap — only $ 7 for lunch. Little kids are cheaper. There are 4 buffet tables — you have the typical take-out dishes on 2 of the tables(soup, egg rolls, chicken, rice, noodles, vegies), then the others are dessert/salad, and sushi. Don’t eat the sushi. It’s just sitting out. They do have a take-out menu and those items are made to order.

Coming here was a horrible, horrible mistake. The buffet itself is composed of the cheap deep fried American food section, the bad steamed kind of Chinese food section, and the hey if you are bulimic you can eat a piece of this to help you throw up everything you ate already seafood section. During the evening I ate a piece of their«sushi» and promptly threw up three plates worth of «food». I mean, I guess I did get to eat more«food» so it was a fair deal, right? No, really, seriously, no. It’s just not cool, kids. The bathroom was kind of smelly and icky, presumably from others who also ejected their«food» into the toilets. Don’t go here.
