I was introduced to Green papaya by one of our friends, since then I have been back at least 1 – 2 times a month. Yes it’s right on Bustleton ave and i have driven by it numerous times! They do not have a fancy sign or anything, it’s a family owned restaurant one of those places where you can have dinner and actually have a conversation with the owner, and where they don’t just know you by customer number but actually know you by name. It’s a nice cozy hidden gem! Now onto the food part! My fav apetizer is the popcorn shrimp, it’s very unique my wife usually orders the shrimp angel scampi, or pasta primavera and I personally always get the lamb chops, they are outstanding! I sometimes feel like it’s like fine dining in center city without the far drive(green papaya is only 10 mins from me) no need to pay for parking, and best of all no expensive bill! Leaves me $$ to go shopping at Target after dinner!

Do not judge from the outside! Green Papaya is the definition of a «dive». Have been going here for the past 15 years. Food made from scratch. Delicious. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates quality food. Green Papaya shrimp is a must!

For the record, Unilocal,or whoever entered this listing … you are spelling it wrong. It’s Green Papaya — just like the fruit. I had a little trouble finding it to rate, hence, at first. I’ve been going here now and again for a few years, and it is a cool little gem. Very low-key and little known, but with elegant service of a traditional fine restaurant, nice clean, pretty little tables with white cloth tablecloths and flowers, small and intimate. There are only maybe 10 tables. It’s byob. And the prices are terrific. There are daily specials that include salad and very nice fresh homemade bread, all under about 12 or 14 dollars. The food is a mix of French/Continental and I think(?) Vietnamese. Very polite, quiet but quite attentive staff. It’s located in a little dinky strip mall with not a lot of ambiance on the outside, which I suppose is what keeps it such a secret/so quiet and a neat thing to find. A couple of friends introduced me to the place in 2010. It is a GREAT place to go on a date, especially a first date or early date where it is important to be able to talk and have a calm, pleasant ambiance and lack of noisy interruption. For what this place is, it is great. And it is really a rarity/unique. Especially since it can be challenging to find interesting, new places to try in Northeast Philadelphia, it’s great to find something like this.
