High Street on Market

High street is one of my favorite places to go for lunch. They always have new menu items and offer lots of vegetarian and healthy choices. The seating is somewhat limited for the amount of traffic they get but grab a salad or sandwich to go and walk over to Washington or Independence square and have lunch in the park.

I made a trip for lunch to this destination. I had a meeting near and I wanted to try this place out.
It is a small sized location, but they had a seat for me. Service was very fast, I had a drink and water at my spot within minutes. The order was taken and before I could blink, my sandwich had arrived.
I ordered a Turkey on a Kaiser Roll. The first bite to the last bite was delicious. The turkey was succulent. The herbs and items on the roll simply balanced the wonderful creation. The Kaiser roll was outstanding, if you can say that about a roll. I loved it was clearly freshly baked and not some store purchased item.
I am also glad I decided to order a pastry from their small selection. I had a brioche donut with caramel sauce inside. It was a small bite of heaven. I wish there was more than one to order. But, alas it was the only one there.
I am most certain I will be back when I have a meeting near again, or I just need to find an excuse to show up again.
The staff was friendly and quick.
The price was very reasonable, I was surprised that I got out of there with what I ordered for less than $ 20.

I’ve been to Fork a few times, and love the food there, so I was really excited to see High Street on the list for restaurant week.
I’ve done restaurant week many times, but I think this was my best experience. The service was wonderful — our waitress was really phenomenal. She was really knowledgable about the menu and gave great recommendations. She was very attentive and friendly.
The restaurant week menu was very generous — you picked 2 of the smaller dishes and 1 large dish per person, which made it really easy to sample lots of different things. Some of the food highlights included:
The mushroom salad — a whole variety of mushrooms cooked in all different ways with eggplant and an egg on top. My friend loved it so much, he wanted to drink out of the bowl.
Beef and Broccoli — it doesn’t sound that impressive from the name, but this was just a beautifully simple and delicious dish. The beef was so tender, it just fell apart. There was a nice broccoli purée and an assortment of vegetables that just went perfectly together.
I definitely plan on coming back for lunch sometime!

We booked a table for 4. We were greeted and shown to our table by friendly staff, and were served tasty food served in great time even though the restaurant was busy. A little on the expensive side but would visit again.

Went in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. There was a line out the door, but the hostess took our number and said she would call us, which was only about 20 – 25 minutes. We just walked around old city which was a nice walk.
We ordered the trio of vegetables, a pumpkin soup, and a pastrami breakfast sandwich. Each item was wonderfully prepared and delicious. The bread was also amazing in the sandwich as well as the grilled bread served with the soup.
This is a great date place. A great brunch spot.

After a long time on my «Restaurants to Try» list, I finally stopped by High Street on Market for breakfast this past Sunday.
Four of us arrived just before 11am and had no problem getting a seat, by the time we were leaving, around 11:45, the place was PACKED, though — easily 15 people waiting for a seat.
The entirety of the breakfast menu looked good to me, but I finally decided on the Pastrami & Hash sandwich. I’ve heard raves about the pastries and bread, but I wanted something a bit more substantial. The sandwich was really terrific — meaty, fresh, and layered with surprising and interesting flavors. The only real downside to my meal was the actual plate/​board. It was served on a rustic, small serving/​cutting board. When I cut my sandwich in half, the (perfectly cooked) egg yolk ran all over the board and a bit onto the table. Again, not a knock on the food at all — more of a logistical conundrum. Form over function?
Others at the table ordered the Beet Cured Salmon, which really appealed to me, although it was definitely on the small side. I’m not sure how substantial it was compared to my sandwich, but it received «yum’s» all around the table.
Service was terrific — hot (delicious) coffee a plenty, friendly smiles, and great attention to detail.
Can’t wait to stop by again!

So good! Everything looked and tasted delicious. Their items are craftfully put together with simple tasty ingredients and every bite is just so satisfying. We got the red eye danish, old bay fried potatoes and pastrami and hash. We’ve never had anything like the red eye danish before and it was truly a nice surprise of savory and sweet all in one. Highly recommend this if you want to try something new and different.
The old bay fried potatoes were perfect and not overpowering at all with the old bay which some places have the mistake of doing. The pastrami and hash was actually what brought us to the restaurant and it did not disappoint. The hashbrown is triple fried and the sandwich comes with a charred pepper which has a nice spice to it. Only thing I was hoping for was to pack on the pastrami meat a lil more and next time I’ll try with the egg fried instead of scrambled.
We’ll be back for sure next time we’re in Philly!

I have only been here for breakfast and a coffee run, but the sandwiches and breads are amazing and so is the coffee. Typical breakfast sandwich in terms of egg, meat, vegetable, and possibly a cheese, but all prepared at the highest level. One of the best places to stop by for breakfast on-​the-​go in Old City. I think I need to go for dinner to offer a full review, but I am compelled to go based on my rewarding breakfast experience.

Incredible tasting menu. Should have written a review a while back. For just $ 50 we got about 13 courses (no joke). Menu said 8 but it kept coming because we had a late table and the chefs working wanted to see if they could make 4 dudes’ bellies explode. Trying to remember all dishes but started with venison and ended with fried rabbit. My favorite was the lobster salad (if I recall) on black bread with habanero sauce.

Breakfast is really delicious! I wouldn’t say on the healthy side, but extremely delicious, great service, I’d rate it a 5 star if they had a healthy option.

Came here a few days before Christmas for lunch to celebrate me & my bf’s anniversary. Despite the holiday week, it was still busy. Our party of 2 only had about a 10 min wait, where a party of 3 that came in just ahead of us had a 30 min wait. There is a communal table in the front window of the restaurant that seats 6, which we were offered to be seated at immediately, however I explained to the hostess we were celebrating our anniversary and politely declined.
After we were seated, we were offered either flat or sparkling water (both complimentary). When they brought out our water, we were also provided two complimentary glasses of sparkling pink rosé and wished us a ‘happy anniversary’, which was an incredibly kind gesture that we gladly accepted!
For lunch I ordered the pastrami sandwich while my bf had the duck meatball sandwich. We also split a trio of sides choosing the roasted cauliflower, beets & feta, and brussel sprouts. All three were delicious, and the beets & feta had orange zest added in which gave it the perfect amount of acid to pair with the saltiness of the feta. My bf especially liked the roasted cauliflower, which also had kohlrabi mixed in with it.
We decided to split the sandwiches so we could each try them. The pastrami was moist & super flavorful, and also incredibly filling and a big portion. After eating half I was satisfied, which was good because I wasn’t a huge fan of the duck meatballs. I blame the liver & onions purée which was spread on the delicious rustic crusty bread (all made in-​house) and although its flavor wasn’t overpowering, I personally wasn’t a fan. As I wasn’t that hungry anyways after eating half the pastrami sandwich, I decided to let my bf have the rest of it but he loved the flavors of it all.
With the exception of the pastrami sandwich, the portions are on the smaller size, so I would definitely recommend adding some of the delicious sides when ordering a sandwich. Prices are reasonable, and the staff/​service here is outstanding!
Will definitely come back to try more of the menu!

Cozy little café off of market st. Came here for a small bite during Saturday brunch time. I ordered the lamb meatball sandwich and my girlfriend tried the turkey sandwich. Both were pretty delicious. They all came with a long roasted green pepper. Spicy lovers will enjoy but heck no for me lol. Prices I thought were okay for the portions but yet again they are a café.
You can drink beers or have a nice classic glass bottle Coke. If you come during December you can park on the st for free since Philly doesn’t collect for parking fees during the holidays. Other spots to check out in the area is independence hall and happily ever after up the block.

BEST PASTRIES ON THE EAST COAST! You must try the Red Eye Danish and Chocolate Croissant! The first time we tried their pastries, we actually purchased them from Rival Bros. and because they were so good we came right back the next day and then hunted down this place for more! Excessive you ask? No, definitely worth it! The restaurant is really nice, would definitely love to come back to try their brunch menu.

My husband and I enjoyed a late breakfast here on our short stay in Philadelphia. From a unique menu to exceptional service, cannot say enough good things about the experience.
We ordered the cortado and regular coffee; both were delicious. To eat, we enjoyed The Forager (vegetarian) and Beet Cured Salmon, along with a side of old bay fried potatoes (see pictures). The kale was perfection on the vegetarian dish and the salmon, along with its pretzel roll, were super tasty. The potatoes were so good that we ordered another; the garlic aioli sauce made them even better! For dessert, highly recommend the coffee almond date cake (also pictured); it is a perfect post meal treat.
In addition, the ambiance is pleasant and we appreciated the décor.

My husband and I stopped in last Tues for a late lunch here — delicious& creative food. They are known for their baked goods, so we got a bread board. I got the pumpkin soup and a Reuben, and my husband got the dick meatball sandwich. Everything tastes fresh and carefully prepared. The pumpkin soup tastes actually like pumpkin! So often people make it too sweet like pumpkin pie. We got a loaf of their harvest bread to go; it was delicious but they probably shouldn’t have served that one because it was burnt on the outside. Regardless we will be back.

Since my first experience Ive enjoyed some wonderful lunches and numerous dinners that were great. The food is always reliably inventive, exciting and fresh. The service is as consistent as the food. Im always pleased how top shelf everything about the experience is yet it’s reasonably priced. I love it!

Pastrami & hash sandwich was amazing. Lots of big flavors. Lovely oozey egg on top. Get it.
I’ve read tons of great about the duck meatball sandwich, but after the Pastrami & hash, I was underwhelmed. Still a good sandwich, but not great or memorable.
The red eye Danish was interesting. Kinda strange mix of ham and cheese croissant with some sort of espresso gravy in the middle. It worked, but not sure if it’d get it again.
Service was just okay. The décor inside is quiet cozy and inviting.
I think the food and portions are good and I would return to try oner things.

What a wonderful experience tonight when I visited High Street on Market. This restaurant has been on my «must visit» list for a while now, and so I decided to try it tonight while traveling to Philly for business. It was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had this year. My service and treatment was so good that I thought someone must have seen my Unilocal Elite status — but I had no reservation, so I think they just treat every guest in a way that is so attentive and special. Two servers waited my table, and the manager came by for a nice conversation as well.
This menu is a big on the «High» side at dinner — pun intended — because it will be necessary to order at least 2 items at $ 15 to 25 per item for one person. Add wine and dessert, and it easily becomes an hefty bill. My server recommended two items, but I honestly think I could have been satisfied with the angry crab spaghetti alone. Of course, I would have missed out on the delicious goodness of the appetizer. I chose the German rye bread accompanied by incredible squash hummus, and the angry crab pasta for my entrée. Both were great. I do wish the bites of crab in the pasta would have been a bit more substantial given the $ 23 price tag, but it still was delightful.
I love that this restaurant provides complementary sparkling water. The fresh breads with the white bean, eggplant and preserves spreads were a great way to start the meal. I personally loved the preserves most.
Kudos to High Street for innovative and beautiful food, and the warm service to match.

We found this place through Unilocal and had while an eight hour layover so decided to stop for brunch. The place itself is in a great location but a very small spot. The staff was helpful, kind, easy to chat with and made recommendations.
We ordered the pastrami sandwich and the cured salmon sandwich. Both were amazing and I wish I could eat them all the time! The pastrami is huge, has an egg, hash like patty in it, and is served with a homemade hot sauce everything about the sandwich is perfection! If you do not order this, you would be severely disappointed with the rest of your day. The cured salmon sandwich is much smaller and lighter but still very tasty. It is beet cured (I know, crazy! But so good!) served on a pretzel bun with fried capers onions and dill. Between the two of us we shared these two sandwiches and it was the perfect amount without feeling overly full.
We also ordered one mimosa (very small serving) and a Bloody Mary (very yummy, lots of fresh, house made pickled veggies). Great spot for brunch!

Their Grilled Cheese Sandwich TRULY is the best grilled cheese ever. $ 12
Cheddar cheese on roasted potato bread that’s been buttered perfectly.
Do yourself a favor and do the following;
Dice up the «hotlong» (the roasted green chile) they serve on the board next to the grilled cheese. Dice it up into small pieces and add it to the inside of the sandwich. Its HOT but absolutely delicious in small quantities. It really takes the sandwich to another level.
