Oh dear… This place is one of the dirtiest Hong Kong Supermarkets to which I’ve ever been. I seriously thought the one in Central Jersey was the worst. It’s pretty gross. The seafood section is really dirty. Most of the aisles smell bad. Despite all this, I did not find things rotting or growing fungus. The only thing good is that it carries most of what I need.

It is a unbelievable bad experience for me. I haven’t been there for a while and now I definitely won’t go back. Not to mention molded and old produce and bad shelf arrangement, the employees work over there are very unprofessional and impolite. When I was checking out, the person ignored me and talked so loud and had fun with other check out persons and also talked on the cell phone for personal business. So all these careless behavior led to 3 different final prices(can you believe that?!) and I had to ask her to start it over. Long story short, she was not happy and dumped all my things out from the bags. Eggs and mushrooms were broken and bags were ripped. No apology at all. I asked to talk to the manager on site and was told by the other check out person that he was responsible for the site as manager is in NYC and he can’t give me any phone or email or name of manager or any solution. At the same time, the other check out line also overcharged the other customers. Worst worst experience ever. There are so many Asian supermarkets out in Philly and I have much better choices and will never go back. Away from it!

This supermarket caters more to mainland Chinese tastes than to Vietnamese. They have a wider range of fresh seafood and imported traditional snacks, including fried crueller twists, fried broad beans(so good!), and a plethora of beef/pork jerky/dried seafood options. The bakery section is a lot bigger than Ben City’s and stocked by a Chinatown bakery. They also have a decent selection of Filipino sweet rolls and desserts, in addition to the ubiquitous egg custards and buns. Overall, the store is bigger and carries most, if not all, of your everyday grocery items, including cereals, cleaning products, and canned goods, although they are slightly pricier than what you would get at Dollar General or Acme. I would stick with the Asian items. Compared to Ben City, the prices are about the same although they have some great sales(sesame-raisin sachima at $ 3.39÷2 packs!). I do like the produce section better, though, because I find that the fruits and vegetables here are fresher. The poultry stand also has a very good peking duck and(drum please…) roasted squid(only on the weekends, though)! They always take the time to slice the squid for me so that the pieces are super thin and I have yet to find a tough piece; it’s always tender and the exterior is lightly seasoned so that it pairs well with the sa cha sauce. The butcher/meat department here is decent and they usually have rabbit and quail, although they don’t always have lamb, which is disappointing. The butchers will grind a loin or steak though, which is great because I can be assured that I am getting the best quality lean meat for my homemade burgers and meatloaf. The seafood department is probably the main reason(well, besides the squid…) that we come here. They always have fresh seabass, flounder, shad, tilapia, and catfish, which they will fillet free of charge; personally, I just like to bring them home to steam with sesame oil, soy, ginger, and scallion, but the bones/head removal is always an option(FYI: they also have turtles and more exotic creatures). The store itself is pretty clean for an Asian market. Cashiers are your typical Asian market cashiers so A LOT of improvement can be made to customer service, but that’s to be expected. Parking is also less treacherous than the situation at Ben City.
