This is one of the worst food trucks in Philly. Everything tastes watered down and there was nothing I enjoyed about the food. I didn’t feel good for a few hours after eating. I wouldnt recommend coming here at all.

Well sure, it’s not exactly fast food. And yeah, it’s kind of weird that Indian cuisine would be available with beef options. And the guy inside is definitely a curmudgeon — he scolded a guy in front of me one day for wandering away from the truck and not coming back as soon as his food was ready. But as a man who loves spicy food, I am a fan of this truck. The guy seems to make extra sure that I know what I’m getting into when I ask for my food extra spicy, and rightfully so, because it’s some of the spiciest goddamn food I’ve ever had in my life. And the extra waiting time has a purpose, in that it translates to a piping hot container of food. He wouldn’t let me take it without a bag. I haven’t tried anything that wasn’t insanely spicy, but I know for sure that he’s got spicy down pat. And believe it or not, the beef is pretty good.

I am not sure why this place gets a bad rap, because the food isn’t bad at all. There are several things I like about this place: the food is prepared fresh, as fresh as it can get. I’ve seen the guy cut the vegetables and make the curry after I’ve placed the order. That is very impressive in my view because one could always just get curry which he had made at home and then frozen. The curries don’t all taste the same, which is great. I’ve eaten multiple things here, and in my view, his saag is the best thing on the menu. Saag(green leafy vegetable, a cousin of spinach) is cooked well and served with your choice of chickpeas(my favorite), potatoes or paneer(cottage cheese). I see here on Unilocal that someone was recently conned into getting tofu instead of paneer — I am not sure how that happened. I’ve always gotten paneer and never tofu. I would’ve returned the tofu to him rightaway, since I don’t fancy that in my saag. There are three distinct levels of spiciness. I would recommend start with mild and make your way up if you’ve never eaten Indian food before, or if you have then start with medium and decide if it works for you. I notice that someone compared this to Sitar/Tandoor/New Delhi. Now look, there can be no comparison between this and a buffet. Any person remotely associated with the food business will tell you that the buffets at restaurants is where the worse food is kept. Often defrosted, made several hours if not days in advance and left out in the open. Having said that, this is a food truck and not a sit-down place. If you’re looking for a nice sit-down meal with excellent Indian food, try Desi Village on Baltimore Avenue and 46th. That place is by far, the best Indian food place in West Philly. The roti for an additional $ 1 is really good, it’s like a giant kulcha + naan combination. In sum, after Desi Village, this is my second favorite Indian food place. I like the Lovash food truck on Spruce as well, but that food is more«snacky» than this, and definitely more greasy. Oh and yes, the guy is grumpy. Not sure why, but thats his personality.

I have to agree with all the other reviewers who have said that the quality of food here is pretty piss poor. It’s just something in the flavoring, the spices, that just isn’t as good as other local Indian restaurants. I can’t say it’s ever made me feel sick but definitely not impressive. I’ve tried it twice(both times some sort of vegetarian concoction), and I’ll not be giving it a third chance unless the ownership changes.

Oh, no. I got turned off by this place because every time I went, the wait was far too long, and the food came out far too salty. The last time I went was well over a year ago. Until this week. I thought, maybe, if this truck managed to stay in business so long, they might have actually improved their product. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But it seems I was wrong: they’re just as slow and just as salty. And now, my tummy doesn’t feel good. It’s the last straw. :(

Mannn, I really wanted to have an awesome Indian food truck near school. This place disappoints time and time again. The chicken tikka masala is just really bland and although it looks great, it lacks all flavor. The food also takes a while so it won’t be a quick grab and go esp. if there are others waiting in line. This place is definitely not satisfying in any way so get New Delhi or Tandoor(or even Sitar!) delivered if you don’t want to make the walk.

Working in University City and being a fan of Indian food makes this truck a no-brainer since this is an Indian food truck and it is located in University City. If done right, I feel that this truck would be very popular in the area but it comes up short since this truck’s food is simply not as good as the Indian buffets that are also in the area. If you are coming to the truck for convenience be warned that the service is slow and you might be caught standing at the truck for the same amount of time you could have visited an Indian buffet twice. This is curious since the wait has nothing to do with people in front of you since there rarely is a line. A positive would be that spicy means really spicy so therefore I recommend this truck in helping to cure the common cold!

I won’t get food from this truck because the service is so slow. It takes twice as long to get food from this truck as from any of the other four trucks at the same location.

Totally gross. I generally love the roach coaches there but the indian food from here was almost inedible. I never had indian food this bad.

Okay… when I say«not spicy», «a little spicy», «medium spicy» or «spicy», it comes out exactly the same — very spicy… o. O Made my eyes water just to consider what the man there decides is «very spicy». Super slow, I’m not sure how he makes any money, but there’s inevitably a line there at lunchtime just due to his speed… If you like spicy, this place is for you. For me, I’ll stay away and hit up some of the Indian buffets near campus that are almost the price yet give me food I can eat.

This is one of the worst food trucks around. Just a terrible interpretation of indian food from a slovenly man. Expect two pounds of rice and some canned chickpeas. There is never a line because everyone knows the deal.

Everything Michael O. said is true. I went with the spicy Chicken Mekhani and it was awesome. Spicy but not painful spicy. The portions are huge and based on the set up inside it definitely looks like he’s making everything as you order it. The menu is extensive and includes the usual vegetarian Indian fare. so if you’re looking for an alternative to the forty minute line in front of Magic Carpet or whatever, this is it.
