Ok, here’s the deal… this place has been there since the 30’s and they seemingly haven’t raised the prices since. It’s conveniently half a block from the K&A stop on the El, although parking is never an issue. They have the old coin meters and a quarter gets much more time out there… wanna say it’s at least a half hour… maybe more. No change? Just park two blocks away on Allegheny. Tribe would be happy… they come brown, yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitian… and caucasion. AKA… it’s a mix of folks in here. * $.75 Potato Salad. * $ 3.75 Roast Beef & Cheese on a steak roll. Get this… it is seriously good. * $ 3.75 Cheesesteak. It’s a solid steak. American cheese, finely diced thoroughly sauteed onions… extra greasy goodness… not the best, but better than the tourist factories. * $ 2.25 Hot sausage. It’s a quality kick-ass link that fills out a steak roll. * $ 1.75 Cheeseburgers. * $ 1.25 mugs of Lager, etc… you get the picture. They have at least 6 or 7 bottles of 1960 Old Hickory Bourbon(made down by Packer & Delaware Ave back in the day) that they sell for $ 7 a pour. Yes… $ 7 A POUR!!! I am not a whiskey/bourbon/scotch guy, but, at $ 7 for a 60 year old(actually only aged 10 years… + 50 in bottle), I had to try it. Yo!!! It was smooth, refined… I guess I do like some bourbons. Or just get your Wild Irish Rose on, yes, lol… it’s there. Bottom line… this dive is seriously one of the best ever. PS… Peep the pic hanging up from 1935 and ask the bartender what happened to the stairwell.
