This gem in Philly is very eclectic. We came today for the Philly Nude Art Festival. Upon first arrival we had to walk up 4 flight of adjacent steps that were very steep. almost felt like I was in New York. The studio was brightly lit and the walls were covered with art work which was very nice and creative. The Art Show came with a free drink, a DJ and silent auction… The studio was not in the best condition but the owner used crafty ways of making the place seem pleasant. Overall go support and see the studio. The employees/volunteers were very nice and they was a winner for me also…

If you enjoy hiking in the city then this is a perfect place to practice your skill. The stairs to the main floor are not for people with heart conditions, or breathing issues. I swear my ears popped! No air conditioning. No handicapped access and railing are not on both sides of those stairs. The art work was interesting though

What an amazing space! I had never heard of James Oliver Gallery before last week, when I attended the opening of a show by TBD Artists. The space is beautiful; very simplistic, yet vibrant. I think my favorite part is the openness to the area around the gallery… there is a small balcony toward the back of the gallery showing a view of the buildings at 8th and Market, while the large windows in the front of the gallery is a great view of Chestnut Street. James himself is a great guy. Very down to earth and not pompous in any way. He is also a musician, which made me very excited to hear. The only negative point I have toward the gallery is something that cannot be controlled or changed: the gallery is on the 4th floor of an older building on Chestnut Street, and the stairs up are very steep. After 2 flights I was feeling okay, 3 was a chore, and I thought I was going to collapse in a heap by the time I got to the top. Mind you, though, it was all worth it when I got up there. Overall, great space, great art, and great people makes an awesome gallery. Highly recommended to either visit or host.

Absolutely a great place to either host an art show/exhibition or visit one. James is a really down to earth guy who’s a true creative with an inspiring passion about art and for those involved.
