I was initially a bit skeptical about getting a haircut here, considering everyone is Asian and my hair can be wavy and different from what they may be used to. I decided to take a chance anyway and was pleasantly surprised. The guy who cut my hair didnt understand English too well but the owner, Kevin, translated what I wanted done. I’m pretty happy with the result and at $ 25 for women’s cut and being so close to where I live, I wouldn’t get a better deal!

never try the new people here! They did terribly! And service is not friendly at all! Lady who in charge of washing always check phones and once they finished your cutting, they pushed you out of door.

Worst hair salon in Philly!!! Terrible customer service!!! My friend got a haircut in Kevin. She asked Kevin(the owner) to cut her hair shorter, but he was too aggressive, and told my friend that length is fine for her and ignored her request. She was extremely unsatisfied with her hair cut, and hope Kevin can fixed her hair. However, Kevin was unhappy with her request, and blamed on her that she should told him earlier that she wanted shorter(what!!!). She understood that he was busy with couple customers, but he did not apologize, not willing to solve the problem, and expressed like this is all my friend’s fault. My friend paid with full price for this haircut.

Let me start with my recent(2 days ago + today I needed to go there to do some retouch) most of them don’t really understand English so it’s really hard to explain what you want to them. I showed him a picture of the color I wanted, he bleached my hair twice and my scalpt was burnt and bleeding so bad. I could feel it right after the 2nd bleach, I couldn’t stand it when it came to dye my hair so I told them to wash my hair after 3 – 4 mins waiting. It turned to green-yellow or some weird color that I couldn’t describe. Kevin then did it himself trying to fix by go all blonde to my hair. I came today to change it back to the color I wanted, it took him 2 times dyeing my hair again and again and he couldn’t even get it right. I gave up after 4 times dying in 2 days. He kept saying«it’s the color you wanted» I’m not color blind and I’m actually a design student and I even asked one of the customer, she said the color was different. My hair is damaged. My scalpt is bleeding and hurt so bad. and all he said is «it’s usually like this» but it’s not usual. ATALL. The thing I hate the most is when you told them about their faults, they did not admit it but reacted weirdly. I learned Chinese so I did understand what they said about me. $ 200 for a damage hair, color and even time. Never again.

English dude English, plz teach ur staff to understand the key words in English at least so that they can understand to cut it short, straight or whatever way the customer wants. It’s not the barbers mistake when they don’t understand what the customer wants. Either u teach them or I will learn a couple of Chinese or Korean words to help u out!!!

I usually get my hair cut at Perfect Cut or Eagle’s Hair Salon nearby, but decided to give Kevin’s a try this time. As far as the hair cut went, the hairdresser did a very thorough job; he was very dedicated and focused(definitely a perfectionist!). However, he did err on the short side — asked for 4 inches off, ended up with at least 5 off. But overall, for the price and quality of the cut, this place can’t be beat. To the less than stellar aspects — I was told that there would be a 15 minute wait when I entered since I didn’t have an appointment. That was fine by me. However, after the lady washed my hair and did a mini massage, I ended up sitting in a chair for at least 45 minutes. There were only two hairdressers to serve about 5 – 6 customers, and I ended up being the last one to get my hair cut even though some people arrived after me. Normally this wouldn’t bother me too much, but I actually had an appointment to make later and so I was quite unamused as I sat in the chair while my wet hair began to dry already. It didn’t help that the employees didn’t really tell you what was going on — they would just hold conversations from across the salon(which I guess I can’t really complain about because it’s typical for Chinatown). Finally, when I began to get to my hair cut, my hair dresser stopped in the middle to blow dry someone else’s hair while the other hairdresser stood to the side drinking bubble tea? I was v confused. The entire ordeal from entering the salon to exiting took over an hour and a half. Lesson learned — go here for a great haircut, but only if you have a lot of time to spare or if you make an appointment.

This place is great. /Really late review; I got my hair cut here last November. But they definitely deserve a review. I went in on a whim to get a complete freshcut, a mix of shaved sides and mohawk/fauxhawk style. I’m really particular about my hair, so I brought a printout of a few pictures that I wanted to base my haircut on. Kevin looked at the pictures and easily designed my hair with care. Price was around 20 bucks. Love this place.

Tried a new hair place today, and Kevin’s Hair Salon was pretty awesome. I LOVE my haircut, and they do this awesome neck & shoulder message while performing a dry-wash. The only reason I’m not giving it a 5-Star, is because they got busy and I had to wait in between clients from one process to the next. One time I had to a lot longer than expected, because my girl was working on color for another girl. I ended up with Kevin, whom finalized my haircut, and he was great!!! Did an amazing job with the cut! :) I will definitely go back, coz prices were pretty good.

Philly ladies(and DC and NYC girls seriously think about hopping on a train!) — Kevin’s is the answer for unruly and frizzy locks. Japanese hair straightening is incredible, leaves your hair shiny, healthy and poker straight. No flat ironing. Price is most reasonable in the area and though it may seem expensive, you will get 6 months to a year of maintenance free hair. Great team at Kevin’s, clearly perfectionists! And a nice neck and shoulder massage as a bonus.

$ 15 for a haircut, shampoo, and massage? This place is great! I’ve been going to Kevin’s ever since I came to Philadelphia(so about 3 years now), and I have never come away disappointed. They’ve(sort of) recently expanded and renovated the place so that there’s much more room, so it feels a lot cleaner and accommodating. I can only speak for my experiences getting my hair cut here, but when you walk in here, you’ll be directed to one of the seats in the back, where you’ll receive a shampoo wash and a nice massage(which is one of my favorite parts). After you get your hair cut, you’ll be directed back to receive another which shampoo wash. It definitely helps if you can speak Chinese, as some of the stylists can’t speak English very well, but they’ve definitely improved their service and quality over the years. Whenever I’m in Philly and need a haircut, you can bet I’ll be stopping by Kevin’s.

Is it possible to give more than 5 stars?!! I walked by Kevin’s 7 years ago and wasn’t even planning on getting a haircut but it’s been awhile so I went in. Well, 7 years later I still religiously go in every 6weeks for a trim. I’m not one t really spent a lot of time on doing my hair and he’s given me such pretty and manageable cuts just for that reason :) since that day I 1st discovered Kevin’s I’ve brought my mom, friends, husband, coworkers and even clients in here to get a hair cut! Kevin is always there and the cuts are always on point. Can’t beat $ 25 for a shampoo, massage and a beautiful haircut! Best place ever!!!

This place is spectacular. I just got my hair trimmed, and an awesome bang cut for 25 dollars with scalp and shoulder massage. I only have two complaints. 1) The brushes are not clean. I was SHOCKED and kinda disgusted when they took a paddle brush to my locks that had TONSANDTONS of other people’s old hair on it — to the point that when they were brushing my hair that was close to my eyes I had blonde and red hair coming into my eyes attacking me from this old brush. It almost appeared it had never been cleaned. Also, it seems I got the short end of the shoulder, scalp massage. It was nice— I would say about 5 minutes total though. From what I was reading, massages seem to usually last up to 12 minutes. The place is clean, My stylists was vert detail oriented and did a thorough job. Overall, I am very happy I found this place and I will be back! Hopefully, next time when Kevin is there.

He got someone from not wanting to cut their hair to wanting it cut!!! AMAZING!!!

I’ve been coming to Kevin’s for over two years now, ever since a friend of mine introduced me to the place. This place is very fairly priced and since becoming a regular I’ve referred quite a few of my friends. The location is a bit out of the way of the main streets in Chinatown(I don’t think I would have discovered it on my own), but it’s certainly worth the trip for anybody living close to the area. For men, Kevin’s will run you $ 15 plus tip: the experience includes a shampoo, head/shoulder/upper back massage, and haircut with gel styling at the end. Awesome deal! The massage is my favorite part of the cut — you won’t get that at your average American hair salon! — and it is one of the main reasons I became a frequent customer at Kevin’s. This place is definitely worth a shot. I promise you won’t leave unsatisfied!

My husband and I stopped in here today to get haircuts! Here’s the DL: $ 15 for men’s haircuts, $ 25 for women, which includes shampoo, massage, hair cut, and blowdry. I personally think that’s a STEAL. They dry shampoo(not with dry shampoo, but they use a blob of shampoo and keep working it into your hair with just a bit of water… not over a sink or anything), give you a great massage, before rinsing the shampoo out of your hair. Haircut was great for both of us(I’ve been cutting my own bangs in between haircuts for years, and it always looks… like i cut my own hair –_-)…so much so that I keep trying to catch my own reflection so I can see myself in not-self-cut-bangs. All in all, it’s cheap AND it’s good – no complaints here! Be aware that many people here don’t speak much english, so either be prepared to speak in Chinese and/or show pictures of what you’re looking for.
