Read the prior reviews and was excited to have the Kurth experience. Could have waited a lifetime. Food had no flavor. Method of food delivery was juvenile. Who puts food on a foam plate and wraps it in paper? If you have a mature palate don’t bother eating here.

I was having a really crappy day, and then remembered that Kurth’s was right nearby. My day, it cannot be turned around, but my sorrows can be drowned, in the most heavenly fried seafood to be found. Thanks. Jon

Best fried seafood in town. Not fancy. Basic, good food. If you want gourmet, special sauces or filings, this is not your place. If you want fresh, lightly fried fish or seafood, no place better. Neighborhood: behave yourself and be respectful, you’ll be good. Simple, just like the food.

Scary neighborhood. Really scary. Especially for suburban people. But here is a big but… Best damn fried seafood in the city. I’ve been going here forever. I took my wife a few weeks ago and when we got there she said«you have to be kidding» I said nope. Only for the intrepid foodie. The best is the best no mater where it is. The good part no one cares where you park. By the way she loved it. She ate her fried shrimp in the car.

My job takes me all over the city, and usually have many lunch options. Mostly steak and hoagie shops, but I found this gem near the Temple campus. Now if your looking for healthy then this place isn’t for you. All their food is fried, but their portions are tasty and generous. The décor hasn’t seen a upgrade in fifty years but the food is worth the visit. So if your looking for something different for lunch give them a try!

This place is awesome. Three stars really because a place like(cornerstore, take out, no place to sit) can’t really get four– or five-stars unless the food is revolutionary. With that said, it’s a great, old place that helps us remember that that North Philly is more than just Temple University and has a rich history. Where else can you get fresh and delicious takeout seafood in this area? It’s delicious and fun to eat too. Prices are great. I stick with scallops and shrimp when I’m there with fries and slaw, but you can really get anything and be satisfied. Highly commended – unusual hours, though.

This place is legendary. OK, maybe it’s not – but it should be. A few years back, the Inquirer did a nice write-up on the place, and I suggest you read that for some background info. The place has been around for over 70 years now, and it definitely looks the part with it’s faded sign, rusted exterior, cracked tile, and large old exhaust fan. Luckily that amount of time has allowed them to perfect what they do. They bread the seafood themselves, cut their own fries, and mix their own coleslaw. Everything is fried to order. I usually get a platter which includes a main attraction, fries, and a salad(coleslaw, potato salad, or macaroni salad). The seafood is always fried perfectly. The cracker-based breading is tasty and crispy while leaving the seafood flaky and tender inside. The fries have a great potato taste but can get a bit greasy at times. The coleslaw is a perfect creamy, sweet accompaniment to the fried items. Sure the neighborhood is seedy, but it’s close enough to SEPTA and Temple that it is easily accessible. Give this place a try for some fantastic comfort food.

So this place is in the straight up ghetto, a couple blocks from Temple University’s campus, but it is a gem. Their hours are EXTREMELY limited(Wed 11 – 6, Thurs 11 – 9, and Fri and Sat 11 – 10), but I feel there is a reason for this. There are always cars lined up on the block late at night when they are open and it’s because their food is delicious. It’s a seafood joint with an emphasis on soul food. Pretty much order anything and you won’t be disappointed. I personally like the flounder platter which is only $ 5.50 and comes with a salad and fries(which are great). The portions are pretty generous too. Now I haven’t tried everything on the menu, but what I have had is consistently fantastic. I can’t believe no one has written a review of this place. It is take out only so if you are down for a bit of an adventure definitely check this place out. My roommates and I live down the street on Susquehanna and we love it. Anyway, check it out, again, you won’t be disappointed.
