So sad this place is closed. Came here after seeing the crazy brunch line at green eggs. They had a cute little roof deck space too. My service there was friendly and attentive. Anyways still wanna say I had some delicious pancakes and egg Benedict here.

i hope its not CLOSEDFORGOOD and that it’s just closed for renovations… the roof deck bar/seating is by far my fav part of this whole place. the food i can live without. go there(if it opens again) for the atmosphere of just hanging outside n drinking!!!

Best hot buttered rum during the colder months! Also surprisingly had the best cheesy grits I’ve ever tasted. Really enjoy hanging out in the upstairs bar/cocktail lounge area. They play great music and the service is always good.

My friend and I went here on a week night for happy hour(4 – 7) and were literally the only people sitting at a table in the whole ground floor which gave me a weird feeling. However, the waiter and very personable(Chris), and the happy hour he mentioned to us seemed decent so we stuck around! We had wine, their specialty cocktail and two appetizers which were great! Overall, it was a good experience and I’d recommend going to give them some more business during the week!

My friend and I ended up at Mamou purely by accident last night. When we found out Graffiti Bar was closed for the evening for renovations, we thought to check out the Corner since it was a nice enough evening to spend on a roof deck. So apparently the Corner is no longer in existence, and Mamou is the establishment in its place. Having the criteria we were looking for, happy hour & outdoor seating, we decided to give it a shot. Our experience at Mamou was perfectly average. The food and drink were good, but not stellar. The service was fine but had its ups and downs. The happy hour menu wasn’t huge, the prices weren’t spectacular and I’ve seen better overall. We both started with the cocktail special that consisted of bourbon, pumpkin and chocolate flavoring. We couldn’t really taste the pumpkin or chocolate, but it wasn’t an overwhelming bourbon beverage either. We switched to Cabernet Sauvignon for the rest of our visit. We received decent sized pours with each glass. The happy hour food menu was fairly limited. We started with the cheese and crackers plate, and then added the sour cream and onion dip and chips later on. The pimento cheese had a nice kick and I really enjoyed the pickled veggies. The sour cream dip was enjoyable but lacked an onion presence. While both were enjoyable, I was looking forward to substantial happy hour dishes. It was friendly to my wallet, but there was something left to be desired in my tummy. It wasn’t super crowded but I felt we were only being checked on occasionally for the majority of our visit. Recognizing that, our server let us order one glass of wine for happy hour, although it was slightly after 7pm. Towards the end of our time there, another staff member noticed we were almost out of chips but still had dip, so offered to bring us more chips. I thought that was very nice of her to notice and offer. The rest of the menu looked awesome however the entrees ranged from $ 15-$ 25, which was beyond the price point I was looking to spend during this happy hour excursion. I wouldn’t come back for happy hour but I’d consider giving the rest of the menu a try. It’s not too high up on my list of must-visits though.

This is the worst service I have ever witnessed. I waited for 5 – 10 minutes at a completely empty bar while the bartenders talked amongst themselves and worked on cocktails. No one acknowledged my presence, nor promised to serve me once they were finished with their orders. I left while maintaining eye contact with another server, who also refused to speak to me. Insane.

I’m not sure whether this place is pretty new or if there just hasn’t been a lot of customers… maybe for a good reason. I REALLY wanted to just give it 2.5 stars, but I rounded down. There were both pros and cons to this place, but they need to step up if they want to compete with the other restaurants in the area. The Good: It was a Friday night around 7 and all the places in the area were busy. I called ahead to see if they had any openings and the host said we could go to the rooftop area, which was first come first serve. Awesome, we head over and even though we head upstairs, the host informs us that there is actually a table downstairs that will fit us so we head down. It was nice that he remembered us and saw that we would be much more comfortable eating on a regular table than on those weird small lounge tables. The rooftop patio and bar area looks really nice and has a nice vibe. It’s definitely a chill place to get drinks and lounge! For dinner I ordered the BBQ Pork Po Boy with a side of greens with sausage. The Po Boy was pretty good, but really saucy so it made the bread somewhat soggy. The greens with the sausage had a nice spice to it and was seasoned well. The Bad: On the menu, under the Po Boy section, it lists lettuce/tomato. Therefore, I assumed there was going to be lettuce and tomato in my Po Boy. When it came without it, I pointed it out to the waitress and her attitude was very off-putting. She basically responded that Po Boys are NEVER made with lettuce and tomato and that their menu did NOT show that. She was so adamant about it so I said nevermind. However, I asked the host for the menu so that I can double check what she said and guess what, THEMENUDOESLISTLETTUCE/TOMATO! The host apologized and brought me my vegetables. My friend is Muslim and DOESNOTEATPORK. We emphasized this to the waitress since he ordered the burger and on the menu it stated it came with a pork jelly. She said that the bacon jelly usually came on the side in a separate metal can and she’ll make sure it’s not in his burger. So his burger comes and two others order the burger at our table and everyone starts eating. Halfway through my friend realizes that NOONE has a separate tin can of bacon jelly and that’s a little odd. So we ask the waitress whether they just didn’t give ANYONE bacon jelly or if they just put the bacon jelly in ALL the burgers. Of course the waitress disputed this with us and just said it wasn’t in ANYONE’s burgers. I was also told the burgers were just whatever. I was really unhappy at this particular waitress as I did not appreciate her attitude. First off, treat your customers with respect. We are paying to eat there and we were not rude at all so don’t be rude to us. STUDY your menu and make sure you know what is on it BEFORE arguing with your customer. Also, as someone in the SERVICE industry, you should actually provide customer service and when we are concerned whether there was pork in the food or not, showing any other emotion besides denial and pushback(empathy maybe?) could help.

I came here with a couple of friends to celebrate a birthday, and I cannot stop raving about it! The food was great, but what really made the difference we the service we received. We arrived at 6:59, just in time to put in some drink orders before Happy Hour ended at 7(the mere fact they offered to do that warrants the 5 star review alone). Our server was Chris, and he was very friendly attentive the whole night. He didn’t know the most about scotch, but he went and brought the bartender, Bo(or is Beau?), to our table. Bo-Beau knows his scotch, let me tell you. If you let him know what regions you like, what flavors you like, etc., you will get an expert recommendation and a heavy pour. Now for the food. We opened with some Crawfish fritters, which were soft and tasty. We followed that up with confit rabbit nuggets, of which we tragically only received four, rather than fourteen or forty. I could eat those all. day. The raw & roasted beets came with more cheese than I knew what to do with, and got even more cheese with the cornbread stuffed eggplant. I had a bite of the roasted pork and loved it, but what really gave me buyer’s remorse was the cheesy grits. These were really done right — I don’t normally like cheesy grits to be so cheesy, but these were creamy and delicious, and I guess I was already on a bit of a cheese kick that night. Mamou is a great place to go to celebrate a special occasion, or even just for happy hour. Say hi to Chris for me!

All and all Mamou is a great spot for HH. I probably wouldn’t have a full on dinner here but I may come for brunch . Having been here twice for drinks and apps I can safely say that this place has loads or potential and an awesome outdoor space. The HH cocktails were quite good flavor wise but i noticed they use well for All their cocktails and to charge patrons 10 –12 per cocktail because you are using house made syrups is a little sketch in my opinion . The crawfish fritters were more filler than craw, apparently the rock shrimp po boy is awesome as well as the cheddar cheese grits. There really weren’t a lot of options for me since I don’t eat red meat or chicken. If meat is your thing there are several options for you . I think the bartenders are very awesome at their jobs and made my wait for friends very entertaining. I would come back for HH and pay an up charge for Ketel in my signature cocktail . I may give brunch a try at some point.

My sister and I decided on this restaurant on a Saturday night, because neither of us could make up our mind on where to go. So our indecision called for somewhere new! I reallllly wanted to sit on the roof deck they have; but the weather at the time didn’t permit it. Anyway the atmosphere is very cozy and intimate. in the background they have southern music playing which I thought was really quaint. Anyway I was given a menu by a great waitress named sadie! she was very friendly and had great ease with talking with us. The menu! When I read it I immediately was engulfed by a feeling of doom. I had no clue what many of the plates were even with the small description. My sister relented to googling certain things. LOL after we ordered my sister then told me I had picked a terrible spot, I then proceeded to tell her bad resturants do not last in this area and to wait until the food came out. For appetizers we had NOT one but TWO orders of crawlfish fritters along with a order of beets. The crawlfish fritters were bundles of happiness and joy with each bite. My sister had the beets which had pecans and ricotta cheese, the combination was surprisingly delicious. Our main plates consisted of bbg pork entrée and their signature burger(I forget the name). The pork was cooked so tenderly and was laid over a bed of sautéed spinach and small pieces of bacon. It was so delicious I was tremendously grateful that the bbq sauce was in a separate condiment container because it did not need any sauce nor did I use it. My sisters burger was juicy and cooked perfectly; I couldn’t help but have a couple bites myself. Her burger also came with home made potato chips. I will be back thats no doubt. Though I will definitely check the weather beforehand so I can sit on their deck.

This is a review exclusively of them as an outdoor rooftop bar with awesome cocktails. We unfortunately did not get a chance to try the food as we saw the food menu below the drink menu after the kitchen had closed — but will be back. The drinks are great and the bartenders take great pride in the art of cocktail creation. While the drinks are a standard list and the bartenders skills are standard for this great cocktail trend taking place, the rooftop experience is one of the better ones in Philadelphia and what makes this place great. My hope is that they get enough heat lamps for the Winter to keep the rooftop open and comfortable as that’s a great spot and probably my main reason why I would come back(independent of their food). I’ll be back for the food and will update my review then — but for now, the drinks, bartenders, and rooftop environment have me coming back.

Pretty much 90% of the times my friends and I try to go to happy hour at Sampan, it’s too crowded and we end up somewhere else. This week it was Mamou. Ma-who? Yea that’s what we said, too. So they apparently re-vamped The Corner into a Cajun place without anyone noticing(or caring?). I was pretty indifferent to the Corner so I wasn’t too upset. I’m kinda feeling the same way about this place: Meh-mou. We sat upstairs and it wasn’t too crowded. I was disappointed to see there wasn’t much space to sit on the roof, I’m not sure they’re using that space very efficiently. The seats inside were awkward round poufs around tiny tables that had trouble hosting our happy hour appetizers. I literally had to yell at the waiter to get him to take our drink orders. And for some reason he did this cute thing where he only ever took one person’s drink order at a time and then ran away. Huh? The happy hour specials were… standard pricing($ 3 beers, $ 5 wine and specialty cocktail, $ 5 food specials)… but not that special. The happy hour sangria seemed kinds of like sprite and wine? No fruit, nothing special. The Crawfish fritters and rabbit nuggets were good, and the dipping sauce that came with each was super tasty. We also enjoyed the French onion dip with chips and appreciated that the waiter brought out more chips when those ran out and we still had a ton of dip left. My friends also ordered the gumbo off of the regular menu($ 8) and it was a hefty sized portion sufficient for a meal. Not a bad place to end up for happy hour, but I’m not rushing back or bumping this to the top of our Sampan back up list.

My co-workers and I ambled into Mamou with stomachs a’growlin-we were ready for something delicious. The ambiance was great. Classy-casual-cute. Our waitress was a pal and explained the majority of the menu to us. She was one of the those people that was so down to earth and seemed like a genuinely nice person, which made our dining experience even better. That goes for the bartender as well– nice guy! Now down to the food. This is going to sound a little weird, but the food wasn’t my favorite… but I still wanted to give the restaurant 4 stars because of the great service, and because I felt the food was good quality, it just wasn’t my cup of tea… Among the items we ordered, I liked my items the best. The Crispy Crawfish Fritters were good. I think I would have liked them more if they were a little crispier. The Grilled Coulotte Steak was good, but the sauce was a little overpowering. I can’t quite pinpoint what was overpowering about it, but I ended up taking a little off. The tasso maque choux was excellent! I’d never tried it before but was glad I took a chance on it. My delightful co-workers were kind enough to share their fare, giving me the opportunity to try the jumbo BBQ shrimp and the chips with onion dip. The shrimp came with the head on(which the waitress warned us about– much appreciated). I’ve peeled shrimp before, but I discovered I’ve never seen a jumbo shrimp head before. Ha! First time for everything. The BBQ sauce wasn’t my favorite. It had a bitter taste(not sour bitter, but like a bitter chocolate– not sweet). I really liked the onion dip, but wasn’t a big fan of the chips. Would go back next time I’m in Philly to grab a drink on the rooftop!

This place is awesome! As soon as you walk in the décor is very chic. The low lighting and dark colors makes the place very intimate and inviting. Also, there’s a rooftop deck, this just adds to this place being a perfect spot. I went for happy hour and normally I’m a beer drinker, but I decided to try some of the cocktails. The host was very helpful with helping me choose what was listed on the menu. I didn’t delve too deeply into the dinner menu but I did try some of their appetizers. I’ve never had crawfish so I decided to try the crawfish fritters. Perfectly cooked, the outside was crunchy with the right amount of spices and the inside was savory and sweet, just as I would have imagined them to taste like. I also had the sour cream and onion dip and fried oysters. I’ve never had fried oysters before. Those were beyond delicious. Just like the crawfish fritters they were cooked to perfection. Everything about the dish was flavorful and well put together. Great atmosphere and delicious food. What else is there?

Went here for sips with a couple friends — they have great sangria! While to have the same sips deals, they only offer miller and miller lite on special, which is slim in my opinion. I like a good micro brew and was sad to see they only offered a mediocre domestic for happy hour. Their food was pretty good! Liked the pimento toast! Chips and dip(was not on special) is also great! They have a great roof deck — probably the best part about this place.

The service was definitely great and I love that they had a roof top area. It was crowded but expected on a Friday. The food had a southern feel to it but not my taste. For vegetarians– the mushrooms were great, eggplant was ok but I wouldn’t get it again. Happy hour $ 5 sangria was pretty strong but no fruit in it womp womp.

In the spot previously inhabited by «The Corner», Mamou deserves the excitement that Charlie was a sinner(the other recent addition to Midtown Village) is getting, because, the food is actually good and worth the price. Who doesn’t love Cajun food(?!), but Phila was long in need of a PoBoy manufacturer and Mamou serves up delicious oyster PoBoys on request! Don’t get me wrong, the Cajun Café at the Reading terminal is quality, but this is several levels up with so many more food(and drink!) options. The upstairs offers a rooftop whisky and cocktail bar, serving perfect chasers for the fried oysters, confit rabbit and spicy crawfish. There are so many more delicious sounding and sumptuous looking platters here. The catfish PoBoy and blackened artichokes are at the top of our to try list when we go back again this weekend. Wish it were open for lunch during the week, currently only open for dinner.
