Matthew Izzo

Upon walking into Matthew Izzo for the first time, my first impression was, «Wow…I’m not sure if I’ll be able to afford anything in here…» True, some of the items are a tad pricey, but if you spend a little extra time looking through what the store has to offer, there are a number of items that are within a reasonable price range. Kind of reminded me of a bit more upscale version of Lucky Brand, only not as pricey, with far less denim and without the boho chic. When I can afford to splurge on clothes again, I’ll be back!

I ducked into this little boutique on a short visit to Philly. I had just learned about Japanese selvege denim from a hipster, sound designer friend of mine. I, myself, am painfully uncool. But armed with the knowledge of what to look for, I could quickly scan the racks to see that Matthew Izzo must be more like my friend than me.
The prices were shockingly low. I saw $ 200 — $ 300 denim for something like $ 20. I think that it was a clearance from the last years stock. Unfortunately, this mean that the sizes were either too large or too small. I did manage to snag a perfectly worn and fitted t-​shirt. I’ll definitely stop in the next time I’m in town.

I never know how to classify Matthew Izzo amongst the plethora of boutiques in Old City. It has women’s clothing. It has men’s clothing. It has jewelry (and lots of it). But it also has a large selection of antique furniture and other home goods, and those items seem to comprise the majority of the stock, and not just because of their size.
I really only ever end up looking at their jewelry and furniture as their clothing selection is on the small side, rather expensive, and usually not my style anyway. But their jewelry is AWESOME. It’s a fun, funky and eclectic collection of different stones, metals, bone, leather and other materials, most of the designs are sort of «old world» but there are also more modern/​contemporary designs mixed in to the group.
And I love the furniture they have — even more so when it’s on sale, but I still can’t afford/​have room for any of it. They make me want to drive around Pennsylvania to find my own thrift/​antiques treasures to decorate my room with, although I assume Matthew Izzo’s furniture is more worldly in origin. You can easily find some cool gift here, and probably also something for yourself too.

One stop design shop anyone? Literally. Anything you need to redesign your life! From hairstyles and cuts to clothes to jewelry to furniture to home décor. Cute place. Seems a little pretentious from the outside, but totally not. Inside they are really helpful and friendly. And they have so many neat things! I got these adorable magnetic wallflowers there. REALLY unique stuff, if that’s your genre.
Little pricey, good for gifts.

I do like shopping at Matthew Izzo, but only when Im in a real special mood. The clothes are cute, a little pricy but for the most part I can always find something I like in there but it’s rare that they have my size, I must get there on the later tip because it’s always the super small sizes and the huge ones left. The candles are great and the bag selection is sick though, so I usually leave with one of these two things.

A really nice store and a welcome addition to our neighborhood.

I’m guessing that McThrill is the first person to review Matthew Izzo based on it’s new location in Old City (which is why he’ll be sending out the updated address tomorrow.). The opening First Friday recpetion was nothing short of enchanting, and it definitely delivered some good times. Of course the fact that it was equal parts fashion, art, and free wine and cheese didn’t hurt!
The avid thrifter in me love’s things like Izzo’s ten dollar rack. And I especially love the fact that their sales people are tuned in to offering special sales on Facebook (seriously scope them out on there if you haven’t yet!). But the avid art lover in me especially loves the fact that their spanking new second floor is an art gallery that touts some of the most comfortable couches that I have ever sat on. and they definitely have some friendly and attentive people working their. It’s only been two days and I can already sense good things for this location already.

If I had to spend all of my money at Matthew Izzo, I’d be ok with that. Matthew Izzo offers Philadelphians clothing brands hard to find outside of New York, great home accessories, a nice and attentive staff — I could go on and on. Matthew Izzo is a staple for Philadelphia’s fashion forward set.

Last night a pair of pants stole my heart! They were the pants that I got to model at the Elite Unilocal event at Area 919 that were graciously lent from Matthew Izzo! I even had the great honor of having Matthew adjust my collar! Seriously, I have never had a pair of pants fit so perfectly or feel so amazing! Guys, seriously, if you want to fashion forward — go see Matthew, he’s amazing!

Jewelry I drooled over. Clothing that made me swoon. Home accessories that inspired the «Top Design» nerd in me to come out. And a pretty swell staff.
These are just some of the reasons I love Matthew Izzo.
Lots of cool labels (my favorites right now are Cheap Monday, Ben Sherman and Nice Collective) and clothing that you won’t see anywhere else in Philly.

Being a Philly girl who moved to NYC a year ago, I can now confidently say that Matthew Izzo’s store is THE place to shop like a NewYorker in the city of brotherly love. There simply isn’t a spot with the variety, contemporary taste, helpful staff and great style like this. Best of all, prices range from reasonable to ridiculous (if you’re in the mood to spurge) and they offer EXCELLENT sales a few times a year.
It’s a must for anyone looking for contemporary and/​or funky furniture.

According to my recent Philadelphia transplant friend (who happens to have one of the more acute senses of style of anyone I know), this is one of the only acceptable places to shop in Philly. But conveniently enough, it sells everything you could ever want, from clothes to home goods to jewelry to hair products — it even has its own salon!
I was thrilled to see brands like Acne, Park & Ronen, Malin & Goetz, Cheap Monday and Nice Collective, and major points for their own line of scented candles with adorable names. Big fan. Basically one stop shopping for Philadelphians with taste and style.

Great store in Philly, great place to pick up brands and looks I would normally have to travel to NYC for. They just moved everything into the one storefront and the clothing section lacks atmosphere but its getting there. Also stocks some incredible designer furniture to complement its strong clothing selection.

Matthew Izzo Shop serves as a great location for well designed accouterments of all sorts. Seemingly unlike Fosters, another design store in the city, the inventory at Matthew Izzo is smaller and constantly changing. In some ways it reminds me of a Bazaar for amazing design.

If you love Fosters and DWR (but don’t have the bank account for the latter) stop into Izzo after you grab a gelato next door.
Not only does this place carry the trediest, funkiest (think tons of Red Dot awards) kitchen and home décor and tools, but they have funky clothes too!
Candles, jewelry, bags, sneakers, sweats, jeans, razors, frames. And everything that your mom would never buy. What else needs to be said?
