We had gotten glasses for my daughter at an eye glass chain(America’s Best) — it was the wrong prescription. She wore the wrong glasses for 6 months. We went to the Mayer location in Wills Eye, and immediately felt better — we knew the qualified staff would ensure we got the correct lens installed. They took a great deal of time with us, called us promptly when the glasses were ready, and were very personable. I agree with the other reviewer that the place is a bit out of date, but service is good. I’m glad that we found a place that we can trust.

Ew, this place is totally disgusting. So I found this hell-hole by searching the directory of my vision plan: Davis Optical. I thought it was a little odd that when I walked in the place reeked of cigarette smoke, but I thought that I must be mistaken. I mean this is 2009, how could a dr’s office smell like cigarette smoke? I gave them my insurance info and had a pre-authorization done. Then an employee took me into the back to wait for the doctor. It got worse: carpets out of 1979, clutter in the examination room and the smell of cigarettes was even more potent! I sat in the chair dreading the examination. I looked over at the sink and it was obstructed! No doctor could easily get to the sink to wash his hands. That was enough– I walked out. I marched into an eyeglass store two blocks up Chestnut to see if they had an optometrist and the guy working there reported that they did not. I told him the story and he laughed and said I am not the first person who has told him this about Mayer Optical. Hi coworker overheard and asked, «who is she talking about?» «Oh John,» he replied, «he apparently smokes in his office. You never heard that?» I called Davis Optical as I needed to release the authorization so I can go somewhere else and reported the unhygienic conditions. The customer service rep seemed not the least bit concerned with how poorly having such a shoddy doctor on their roster reflected on them as a company and insurance provider. It was clear that her apology was insincere and the complaint stopped with her. Yay, quality control! I also called 311, who is reporting this ghetto place to Licenses and Inspection. I hope they get shut down, but either way do yourself a favor and stay away!
