I was in another country on vacation when I discovered Kryssy on pinterest and decided I HAD to have those twists. She is an excellent communicator and had no problem answering my millions of questions about the process, the hair to buy, and how I should prep my hair, etc. She was incredibly prompt and got back to me within a couple of hours. After emailing her to death(sorry, Kryssy! haha!), I had an appointment with Kryssy last Sunday for rope twists. I have a ton of 3c/4a curls and it takes A LOT for me to let anyone touch it without screaming blue murder. She blow dried my hair out easily without ripping through it(ahem, take note Dominican salon) and we started from there. My twists looked gorgeous and I got so many compliments on it. To quote one of my classmates: «Are those triangles!!! Those parts are ONFLEEK!»(I hate that word, but whatever, I looked cute). I wore it up in a bun and hanging down. It looked awesome both ways. She was also amazing at giving me aftercare instructions to make it last longer :) Just do yourself a favor and go see her.

This salon is the best. Sheri is very welcoming, she will hold a conversation with you the whole time. She tells you how to maintain your hair and what products you should use. She is very gifted in her hairstyles. My hair was very damaged and She managed to bring my hair right back to life. Sheri does an amazing job. I receive plenty of compliments on my hair. Sheri is nothing short of brilliant. Highly recommended !!!

I took my daughter to the salon to get her hair done by Sheri. My daughter is very shy and tender headed. She loved Sheri! She took care of my Princess! She felt very comfortable and trusted Sheri with her hair. The salon was also very clean and modern I like what Sheri has done with the salon!

I had really high hopes for Mckinze Chic but I was incredibly disappointed. I made an appointment with Kryssy to get my locs retightened. The scheduling process was excellent, as Kryssy responded quickly and was able to get an appt right away. The salon is also really close to my apartment so it seemed like a winner. I scheduled to arrive for a 3pm appt on a Saturday and I got to the salon at 3pm on the dot. Someone was still in Kryssy’s chair, but Kryssy said she was almost done. I assumed I would be in the chair soon. I waited. And waited. Then waited some more. One hour and 40 minutes later… I was in the chair. In the time I waited, Kryssy said not one word to me about the delay, which I thought was really rude. Kryssy washed my hair, did not condition it and then had me sit under the dryer. I should have said something about that but I trusted her professional judgement so I let it go. Now normally my hair takes between 3 – 4 hours to tighten so that is what I expected. It took her 6 hours. 6HOURS ! 6 hours in which she made almost no effort to speak to me but engaged in unprofessional conversations with the other stylists(apparently a different client brought in lunch platters for them that day and the food wasn’t very good and they made that very clear). By 11pm I was more than ready to leave so I paid her and left. Upon getting home and thoroughly inspecting my hair, realized that I still had about a half inch of growth left(split into a «Y» from the lack of actual rotations, for those of you familiar with interlocking).I called her and let her know I wasn’t happy with the outcome and while she did offer to fix it, it would have to be at her convenience. There was no way I would ever let her touch my hair again or be a client at that salon. Today is Sunday, and I just spent all afternoon undoing what she did. And now I will have to wait till next month to get it redone properly. I should have just went to my regular salon.

So, I went to McKinzie Chic for a haircut and blow out using a package I had bought on groupon. I really wanted to love this place, but wasn’t sold. The inside is a bit threadbare but has incredibly comfortable chairs, nice big mirrors, and about 4 chairs. So, it’s tiny but cozy. The stylist who did my hair, Whitney, was really nice and personable, but I felt as if she did not really know how to manage my curly hair. It took about two and a half hours for a deep conditioning treatment, cut, and blow dry. I went from somewhat long hair to a lob. The lob that I explained I wanted had no layers and was just razor edge straight. Whitney gave me layers anyway, claiming it would balance out with my curly waves. I’m not sure how it will look with curly hair as I haven’t worn it that way yet, but the overall cut that she gave me just wasn’t what I wanted at all. I told her while she was cutting that I didn’t want layers and she gave them to me anyway, saying no layers wouldn’t look right with my hair. Also, I felt as if her blow drying skills were sub-par. She didn’t section my hair off and I had to keep explaining to her that pieces were wet at the roots. I told her it might be more helpful if she sectioned my hair off with clips, but she told me she didn’t know where her clips were as she had been about to leave before I made my appointment. So, It took her a really long time to blow dry my hair. Having been to places like the Rizzieri and blow out bar — I know there stylists can do it in much less time with better outcomes. In fact — I can blow dry and straighten my hair in less time. I felt like she was used to drying someone with finer hair and didn’t really hold the blow dryer close to my hair long enough to dry it and that’s what made it take so long. I really liked her as a person, but overall — she just wasn’t the stylist for me. That being said, if you have finer hair I think she would do a better job. The owner was also there, and she was sweet as pie! Really, everyone in the salon was really nice, I just wasn’t sold on the final product or the blow dry. But, that being said, I really want to like this place so I am going to give the cut a few days and if I decide I like it, I am more than willing to change my review. As of now, I would only go back for a trim on a cut I got somewhere else.
