Happy hour burger and beers? Affordable and amazing. Seriously one of the best I’ve had. If you’re around between five and seven from Tuesday to Friday be sure to stop in. If you see me there then be sure to say hi.

This is a hamburger! Seriously — one of the best in the city. ! And lots of other foods. Not as loud and not as hip as the joint across the street, but definitely worth the visit. Great service, great food and a happy hour that won’t make you feel uncool. You can leave your indoor man scarf and straw hat at home.

After a rough patch, Meritage is back! Had a wonderful meal, with special highlights of mushroom tart and mussels in the most delicious white wine /tomato broth — YUM!!! Service was ideal — attentive but not intrusive. The kitchen is once again cranking beautiful, delicious food!!!

Great meal and service as always. Had a lovely root veggie kimchee starter and fluke entrée. My dinner companion had a nice wagyu brisket. Wine list is fairly extensive and well curated. Overall a great neighborhood restaurant.

Seasonal menu and the food is fresh. The restaurant likes to use root vegetables that are not very common. Portions are appropriate and not too much. Service was slow and confused when we were here, but overall a good place. Had the chicken dish which was tender.

Really underrated restaurant. No gimics, nothing trendy. Just good food. Meritage has been serving consistently beautiful food for years. The menu is seasonal and frequently changes, and the food is always well balanced. They had a mushroom polenta scrapple appetizer special once that was phenomenal — couldn’t believe it didn’t have any actual scrapple in it! The bartender mixes great cocktails. The service is always good.

Atmosphere was nice, but the food disappointing. The waiter mentioned the new chef had a French culinary background. I was excited. Dishes arrived, so disappointed. Looked forward to a cappuccino, machine was broken. Next time we are going to try the burger place across the street.

Went yesterday to celebrate a friends birthday and left very disappointed. The portions are beyond small for the appetizers, I would call them tiny. Service was bad as it took us 3 hours for dinner. We were seated at 8 and not served dinner until 945. I was told they did renovations but this was not what I expected. I assume that the old chef had left because the food was average at best. My steak and a hard fat line in it and so did everyone’s that ordered the steak. The dessert I ordered was terrible and I didn’t even finish it. Best thing was the coffee and the wine. I don’t know what happened to this place.

What I liked about this place the most was the way the bar faced looking out of the windows onto the street. There is nothing better than a martini, a glass of wine, and good conversation at the same time the sidewalks providing fodder for jocular remarks from the bar patrons. We just stopped here for cocktails and apps on a beautiful fall night. We tried the seasonal pumpkin soup. A wonderful consistency, appearance but just a very simple squash like flavor, almost bland. The three cheese plate was very good; a hard goats milk cheese, a mid-textured blue and a soft triple cream, with a couple of complimenting chutneys/jam and crostini. It is definitely a place to return for that atmosphere I so enjoyed at the bar.

This review is way overdue! I’m writing about something amazing. It happens during the summer on Saturdays. While everyone else is at the shore, you must come here for to Meritage for their Summer Saturdays! For two, dinner can be under $ 40. The menu includes: Kale salad with toasted bread crumbs and a light mustard and tarragon vinaigrette, sliced bavette steak, roasted mushrooms, and a potato salad! You also have the option to order a bottle of Cab for $ 25. The menu(and prices!) are spot on. We also ordered the calamari as an appetizer and two glasses of Pinot Noir. The decision to come on a gorgeous late Saturday afternoon was just icing on the cake. The calamari salad started us off, and it was refreshing, crunchy, and just enough spice! I LOVE kale salad(there’s no way to bold that statement, so I’m hoping you can sense the enthusiasm with the capital letters). This kale salad, while simple in ingredients, was delicious. The dressing was light, and the bread crumbs added some texture so it didn’t seem I was just eating some leafy greens. We ordered the steak medium, and it came out just right, even though at first glance, it looked a bit dry. Despite its appearance, the steak, dipped into the truffle sauce, was heavenly. The mushrooms and potato salad were great accompaniments to the meal. The meal wasn’t too heavy nor too light. Just enough to keep us satisfied. Since this was my first time at Meritage, this meal has made me want to return!

I came here with a coworker during restaurant week. I wasn’t very impressed with this korean french fusion. For the appetizer, I got the snails which were a 4 or 5 by itself. They were cooked well, not too chewy and with a nice butter sauce. The dried kale or whatever was unnecessary and not very good. For the main dish I had the kimchi beef brisket. The brisket was a large chunk with like 2 or 3 small pieces of kimchi on top. Parts of the brisket was tender and good, but another part was over cooked and pretty tough/dry. The kimchi did not really accompany it well. For dessert, I had the pumpkin something en crème. This was basically a lighter verson of what pumpkin pie filling is. It was lighter so it wasn’t as heavy or sweet and the crème was good, but it wasn’t very dessert like. I’m not sure. I feel like it should be more dense or sweeter.

Came for Restaurant Week with a group of friends. Easily accommodated our large party of 10 with a simple phone call. It was a Saturday, which not many restaurants participate on Saturday nights, but it was BUSY. Unfortunately we got put next to a table of really loud girls celebrating a friend’s bachelorette. They were only a group of 6, but they were LOUD. I ordered the lobster bisque, pork chops, and the flourless chocolate torte. The lobster bisque was ehh, but the pork chops were delicious! The flourless chocolate torte was alright, I should have gone with my instincts and not let the server persuade me into changing my mind because whatever the other option was(completely forgot) tasted better(tried a friend’s). NOTE: Portions are small! The service is normal, nothing to brag home about. The prices were reasonable for a-la-carte so even if it’s not restaurant week, it won’t break the bank. I would like to come back again to try the other items on the menu.

Meritage can be a hit or miss at some points. However it really depends on which tasting menu you’re coming for, so plan accordingly. I came here to settle my carnivorous palate for some delicious meat with the Game Menu. What do you expect from me? Game hen, quail, wild boar, and venison. A hunter’s wet dream. This restaurant is nestled a little south of downtown but definitely packs a punch with an interesting menu and a great selection of wines to get your ass buzzed and sloppy. Yea, it’s a bit of a pricey menu but that’s the opportunity cost for eating quality creative dishes.(Wow, that was such a Penn thing to say…) Meritage is such an underrated restaurant that deserves some more limelight.

I came here with friends to enjoy the duck menu. A lot of the table complained that the food was too salty. Though I can’t say that it was necessarily WOWed by most of the menu(maybe because I was really hungry) I can’t say that I disliked my meal. The flourless chocolate tart was kind of good as long as you got a little bit of all the components together, but without the sauce it was not something I found all that great. Now, if you take into the account the price tag of the meal I would have liked better quality control(or perhaps I’m just not a good match for this restaurant) but as far as trying this once, it was worth the experience I think, though I probably wont jump to come again.

First time here. Pretty good food and experience. Our waitress Tessa was really friendly and accommodating even though our party for a 7pm RSVP was running super late. The area is more residential so parking was really really scarce. ***Warning*** Took me 30 minutes of driving around and I was 5 blocks away from meritage. We ordered numerous bites small plates and shared a few large plates. Bites. Calamari, chick pea fries, kimchi fritters, escargot. All were pretty good but first place goes to the escargot. I wish the calamari were either bigger(size of the squid) or bigger portion. But still good. Had the special Korean fried chicken entre as an app to share. Good flavors but don’t expect bonchon/Soho chicken. Ordered the Kobe meatloaf to share. This was my only gripe. Portion was meager. Two to three broccoli florets??? I understand plate proportion for aesthetic purposes but skimping on a cheap vegetable… fixable! The Kobe meatloaf itself wasn’t anything special. My friend and I thought it tasted like hamburger meat withoyt the bread. The salty ness inside seemed like cheese but can’t say for sure. Overall great dining experience and waitress and staff were prompt and on point with cleaning table and water refills. Glad they gave me RSVP in the bar area as the dining room was a bit crowded and decibels tio high for my liking.

Awesome dinner with awesome friends. Minus the parking. Oh it was a horror. It was Saturday night and all of us had terrible time finding a spot. Note to self, if dining here with a group of friends then carpool. We dined in the bar area a couple bar tops put together. It was actually more intimate than being in the main dining area. I snuck in a quick peak and it seemed crowded, loud, and cramped. The wine bar across from us was packed but the crowd was calm. We didn’t start ordering until about an hour after our reservation. Our waitress made sure we had sufficient drinks minus when she offered to refill my wine. We were charged but it was never brought out. She even mentioned that she remembers pouring it out. Sorry girl, it never made it to my hands. The food was fantastic. We shared numerous small plates, light bites, and appetizers. Plus the guys shared an entrée of the Korean fried chicken. The polenta that accompanied it was a buttery goodness. We ordered kimchi fritters(it looks more like a hush puppy than a fritter, it was round not flat) but delicious. The calamari, escargot, and chick pea fries were all great. I indulged myself with deviled egg with bacon infused roe. It was kind of a bummer that you only get 1 egg for $ 5. I wanted more! Everyone enjoyed their entrée. We all ordered different proteins. I didn’t really hear anything bad from anyone. I loved the salmon cooked to my liking rare in the middle. I would definitely come back here. I’m glad we ended up here for our holiday dinner.

One of my favorite restaurants in the city! It’s been a few years since I’ve had dinner here, but from what I recall, the food was exceptional. My husband and I plan to dine here in the near future. But until we scrape up some dough(it’s a bit pricy), we were inclined to try their happy hour. They have delicious bar bites for $ 4. Chickpea fries sound intriguing, right?! They were delicious! What surprised me even more were the kimchi fritters. I am NOT a fan of kimchi, but decided to try one of my husband’s fritters anyways. I’m super glad I did, as it was out of this world. Way to make me eat my fermented cabbage, Meritage! They have $ 6 wine specials during happy hour(M-F, 5 – 7), which isn’t too shabby. The bar is small, but the staff is very friendly and if you go on a cool evening, you’ll get to enjoy the breeze blowing in from the windows. Lovely atmosphere for date night… go there!

My friend and I had a 6pm resi last night for dinner. Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by a dark wooden bar, dimly lit created a nice and romantic setting for an evening out. I could do without the flat screen TV, but being in a sports town, it seems to be a rule to have one by any bar. The dining room was of a good size, the tables were spaced far enough away that you don’t feel like you are sitting on the group next to you, although conversations tend to carry throughout the space. The staff was delightful and really tied the entire dining experience together for us. Surprisingly for RW, the portions were very generous and the presentation just as pleasing. I started off with the Foie Gras Ravioli, I agree with one reviewer when they stated more of pot sticker then ravioli, but the foie was the perfect temperature, packed with buttery goodness. The contrast of textures was nice, so I couldn’t complain that it really wasn’t a ‘ravioli’ My friend had the mussels, even though we were skeptical of the curry sauce, which is usually always done terribly and too heavy for the mussels. This rendition was light and the mussels were of a nice size. The number of mussels are usually plentiful elsewhere, but she still got a good amount. For our entrees, I continued my duck fest with the duck breast, again the presentation was beautiful and the meat was cooked to a nice medium rare. I wish there were crisps of skin to add a bit more richness to the dish, the sweet potato purée was smooth and the bordelaise sauce added another dimension to the flavors, but as a whole, it was a bit bland. The Korean fried chicken was nice, the kim chee really brought out the spice in the chicken wings, I wish that the skin again would have been crispier, but overall not a bad dish. The flourless chocolate torte and peanut butter bombe packed the most flavor of the night. just enough sweetness on both plates to finish off our dinner. All in all, other than a couple of minor tweaks, I think Meritage is great spot for a romantic dinner and I will be stopping back here again.
