I’ve been to dozens of shows at The Met so my snob-​cred is strong.
This is a beautiful, acoustically accurate venue and the company is world class.
La Traviata was stellar and Cold Mountain is one of, if not the, finest contemporary English operas I’ve ever enjoyed (Dr. Atomic being the other).

I’ve been a subscriber for about five years, and I have loved every opera (some more than others, of course). The Academy is a wonderful place to hear/​view opera, and the Company is incredibly talented. I cry at least once during each performance – even the comic operas! – because the music is so beautiful. If you’ve never been to an opera, try it. Opera is not «stuffy,» and you don’t need to have any background or specialized education to appreciate the beautiful music and stunning voices and staging. So much beauty in one place at one time!
