I will never go back to Out of Wack Jacks. Let me start by saying, I grew up a block away on Wesleyan Rd and used to go trick or treating here when it was called Larry’s happy tap. I turned 21 at Jack’s and even held my husbands 30th birthday party in the basement, 10 years ago. The staff and owner, Mr. Newman, have always been great. Planning my husbands birthday party was one of the nicest and stress free experiences I’ve had. They literally took care of everything and I just showed up. It’s always had a great feel inside the bar — I would walk down the street order some food and have a few drinks for a Phillies or Eagles game and it was always a great time. I moved out of Academy Gardens 5 years ago and have only been to Jacks a handful of times since. On Saturday night, a bunch of our friends met at Canstatter’s for Irish Fest and we wound up at Jacks. We were having a blast. We were playing shuffleboard, doing shots and dancing. Not bad for a group of adults in their mid 30’s! Then around midnight, as a group of us were on the dance floor, the DJ decided to play part of a skit from an old Andrew Dice Clay stand up routine which bashed gays and was in incredibly poor taste. It was clearly directed at one of our guy friends, who happens to be gay and was dancing with us. The DJ actually laughed when he played it and high fived the bouncer next to him. My friend was instantly uncomfortable and sat down. My husband was so infuriated, he insisted we leave. Two days later, my husband was still irate and called Jacks. The DJ apologized and said he was ‘only trying to be funny.’ He calls it funny, I call it being an asshole. Never again will I step foot in Jacks. This behavior in the year 2015 is truly unacceptable.

I hate this place. Came home after a deployment and forgot my ID but had my military and they would NOT let me in. I had a credit card with my name on it as backup plus military is a valid form everywhere else in the world except this joint. I’ll never go back and I’ve been there before and the food isn’t that good anyways. I’d rather go to penny gardens or hemmingways and that’s bad.

When I am in the northeast and am yearning for baskets of fried foods, this is my place. You can’t go wrong with the whack fries, wings, chicken tenders, or cheesesteak eggrolls. This place can flat out fry some food! I wasn’t a fan of the nachos. Avoid. If you really want Mexican themed bar food I suggest you go to a Mexican themed bar… There’s one just up Welsh road near the Boulevard. The service was pretty good, especially considering how busy it was. I’m not a huge fan of a DJ while I eat but was happy that the sound levels were less loud in the dining area than in the actual bar area. I could still hear the discussion at the table without straining or others yelling. I was driving so I didn’t order an alcoholic beverage and cannot comment on the pricing or mixology other than to say no one I was with complained about either. My water and cola type beverage were served cold, as expected.

This is our frequent neighborhood go-to spot. Not only a busy sports bar but with a great restaurant, wonderful staff(kudos to Joan), reasonable and delicious menu items. Have attended parties in their downstairs and they have always been handled wonderfully. As for the bar-restaurant, it’s a great place for guys to congregate to watch a game or play shuffleboard, etc and just as comfortable for a family or a couple of women who want to order dinner. Very happy welcoming atmosphere. Always a winner!

Love this place. Great happy hour food specials(half off apps) from 4 – 6. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried here — my father loves the bacon wrapped shrimp and the dipping sauce that accompanies it. They have a great menu that offers sandwiches, pizza, salads, and even dinner entrees. Has a great shuffleboard table and two bars. Also has a downstairs room made for private parties — my parents have held events here and had a blast every time. Definitely check it out.

This is a good place to watch the games on Sunday. The bar area gets crowded but they have a sunroom addition with booths and several TVs that doesn’t get too crowded even during the Eagles games. Food is not so good but the service is excellent.

I went to this bar in the Northeast for a friend’s birthday last night and it was not the most exciting experience. My expectations weren’t set high, but I still left disappointed. They served the smallest, weakest drinks I’ve ever been given– even worse than an open banquet bar. The glass size was about a 6oz glass, granted the drinks were cheap at $ 3.50 for a Stoli O & Tonic(weak), but it’s annoying to have to go to the bar every 3 minutes, fight the broseph crowd, to barely quench your thirst. Mixed shots(washington apples-birthday boy’s choice) were served in a standard shot glass and were all juice. Lame, very lame. Try not to be quite so obvious when you are ripping people off. I planned on having only 2 mixed drinks and one shot to toast my friend’s birthday since I was driving, ended up having 5 mixed drinks and 2 shots in 2 hours getting nothing more than a sugar high from all the mixers. Music selection was ehh. Service was friendly enough. Definitely not a place I desire to return to. The best part was they didn’t charge a cover.

Out of Wack Jack’s is a bar and restaurant in Northeast Philadelphia. They have a large, fully stocked bar which dominates the front area. You can order from their tasty-sounding menu while the kitchen is open(11am to 11pm) but I didn’t get a chance to do that. The in-house DJ had an entertaining playlist full of old school hip-hop and recent songs. Here’s a sampling: Britney Spears — Gimme More and Toxic Melanie C — I Turn to You Journey — Don’t Stop Believing Amber –Sexual Jack’s was crowded with(really) young people Saturday night dancing, drinking, and carrying on. Luckily lots of seating was available throughout; each booth featured a flat screen TV(at least in the rear). The men’s bathroom was small, with two urinals(one practically on top of the lone sink) and a stall. Apparently I don’t go to enough bars, as I was surprised to find shuffleboard in a side room! I had a good time and would return to try the food(and shuffleboard), maybe to dance, and definitely to drink.
