Palace Roller Skating Center

It’s a shame the area lacks roller skating rinks because they are fun! Very affordable and they seem to have deals all the time. Can get crowded but is still manageable at capacity. Music is trendy and a good mix of ages and cultures. Great date spot for anyone or just a change of pace thing to do.

Where other rinks have failed to maintain the family friendly vibe, Palace continues to be a great place for family fun. My son loooooves to skate and has had two parties at Palace. We used to frequent the 10 and under skate when he was in that age bracket and I loved it because parents can walk alongside their kids and the little ones don’t get clobbered by the bigger kids. We recently went to a Thursday night skate and it wasn’t crowded at all. My son had a blast skating to the awesome DJ’s tunes. They typically have games for the kids in the middle of the session and the kids love winning that small piece of candy and courtesy cup of soda lol. Admission and snacks are still affordable. We bring our own skates since the rentals have seen better days. I can’t say enough great things about this rink. 8 years later and it’s still the best in Philly for kids in our opinion.

Kids have a blast here. The Wednesday night special is great for the family. One of the few roller skating places left. I swear it looks exactly the same as when I was a kid.

After a horrible 5 month long ordeal of moving, my daughter’s 8^th birthday was rapidly approaching and before I knew it… it was 3 weeks away and we didn’t have a place to have it… I was short on funds and limited in time… so I remembered palace and how much fun we had when attending one of her friends birthdays there.
I was so happy when I saw how much they do for the parties and how great the prices were! and they even had a kind of ticket blaster for the bday child to go into!
The food was good, easy to handle and drinks that were continuously refilled for free… we got tables right next to the skating zone and it was hands down on of the least stressful parties i’d ever planned for my daughter. they gave us 10 free skating passes so we’ve been going once a month!
Highly recommend to EVERYONE!

I’ve been skating here since I was a child, and that’s about the last time they updated the carpeting. I watched a kid throw up when I was a kid in the corner near the arcade, next to the Simpsons game — the stain is still there 20 years later.
Though, considering the complete and total lack of roller rinks left in the world, I still respect what this place stands for and I applaud the owner for staying around despite the fight and drug problems that hurt them in the late 90s.

Of all the skating rinks I’ve been to in the United States, this one is the worst. What moron paints over an oak wood floor??? …ruining it. And the only thing you can do is go forwards. Good grief. Boring. Unfriendly staff. I’m not going back.

A classic landmark on the boulevard! I remember going to this place when I was a kid and now I bring my daughter here. Staff is friendly, food is pretty good, fair prices. We had a birthday party here and have been to many parties here as well. The Palace is a sure spot for family fun!

I’ve been going to the palace for 30+ years. They continue to make this a great place for family fun.

I went to Palace with a couple of friends and my wife– all of us in our 30s and had a good time. We went on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and it was pretty crowded. There were kids and parents everywhere and a couple of bday parties going on. BUT it was still fun! The music was good– they played pop music, r&b-basically top 40. It was nostalgia at it’s best.
We played a couple of classic games– skee ball, and arcade basketball. I also visited the concession stand and tried the fries — NOT good and the pizza– barely okay. But if you’re hungry it will do.
They have adult skate a couple nights days a week which is likely better than skating with all the kids– but going in the afternoon is still fun. It’s totally worth the visit for throwback fun.

Extremely rude. Even the manager had an attitude. Don’t waste your time or money at this place.

These days when kids are distracted by cell phones and other gadgets, it is always nice to reflect upon the good times had at Palace.
In case you do not know (or care to know), Palace was initially an *ice* skating rink when it opened. Yeah, that’s right! Then either in the late 70s or early 80s, it became a roller rink. Roller disco! I vividly recall going to Palace in 1983, skating to Culture Club, Duran Duran, and other artists of that era. Also, I had a birthday or two there back in the mid 80s. I remember that as a present, one kid gave me a game disk called ‘Castle Wolfenstein’ for my Commodore 64 computer. For those who have no clue what I just wrote, you may as well consult Wikipedia.
The other thing about Palace was that it was a social activity and a safe one at that; you would go with your friends and also see kids from school there (Loesche, Baldi, Washington). Also, for the bold, it was an easy way to meet girls. I mean what is easier than going up to a girl and asking her if she would like to skate during couples skate?
I am glad Palace is still in business; it serves as a rite of passage for kids who grow up in the NE and surrounding areas. For me, the fun times I had there as a kid are seared into memory.

Great place to go on a rainy day. I have been coming here for over twenty years. I used to go when I was a teenager and now my two children are enjoying the place. The price is right for the kids. The skates are old as day but they work good for the kids. My son had several birthday parties here and they are always fun. The kids get a choice of pizza or hot dog. The pizza is nothing to write home about but then you aren’t here to eat. The décor of the place is cheerful and colorful for kids. The floors were newly carpeted and the walls colorful. The staff is very helpful and considerate. The skate guards are always willing to help the little ones get to safety if they fall. I will continue to take the kids to this special place as it is a delightful day out that isn’t too expensive.

I went to Palace Roller Skating Center on Saturday with Hubby, my mom and my little brother (he’s 19 years younger than me, so still a little guy). I used to come here religiously when I was a teenager, and it really hasn’t changed much.
First of all, they must be treating their employees pretty darn good, because it’s all the same people I remember from when I was a kid. There have also been a few changes, like the addition of a cool Philly skyline mural and some newish carpeting. The snack bar, skate shop and the rink itself are still the same, as well as the lockers that I’m pretty sure are older than I am. They still work though!
The music is pretty much the same, newer dance music with a mix of 90’s club music (think Stevie B). On Saturdays and Sundays they do the Hokie Pokie, Limbo and «Spin the Pin for the kids. It’s definitely fun for all ages.
You can’t beat the prices here either. The session we went to was from 1PM-​7PM and the admission was $ 5 plus $ 3 skate rental. To me, that’s a darn good value for a nice big, clean rink with some fun that’s actually healthy for you! They’ve gotten some newer skates too, so they were in good condition.
All in all, it was a great time and I am strongly considering buying a new pair of skates and coming here regularly again. I’ll probably come to mostly the adult skate sessions though, as dodging the falling small children gave me several mini heart attacks.

Love this place!!! we come here regularly for the Saturday morning skate and always have a good time. We decided to have my daughters birthday party here and what a great choice it was. The staff was great even putting my daughters new wheels on her skates everyone really made her feel special. I can’t recommend this place enough

I like this place, I really do! One of my friends had a birthday party here to do something a bit different than our usual bar crawl around the city. I was excited for roller skating on a Friday night! I’m more of a blades girl, so I was disappointed that they were all rented out. I was given a pair of those retro skates from the 80s. Huge sigh, but nevertheless, I skated around the rink like a pro. Lots of kids, families, young couples, and some of the kids were just obnoxious. The skate police were out to make sure that no one was skating too fast (hehe, I was one of them). They made sure that they did the classic skating party favorites: girls only, guys only, slow skate, and backwards skate for beginners and advanced. Cool.
Since we had a birthday party, it came with pizza and soda. Pizza was nothing gourmet, but it gave me the energy to get back on the rink. Another gripe was the parking lot, and everyone leaving at the same time. It’s a traffic jam I want to avoid if I ever come back.
Chickie’s and Pete’s was close by, so we ended up there for a more «adult» party!

Saturday morning. Rain in the forecast. First thought? Let’s go roller skating. Clearly, I ended up at Palace. This place is a blast from the past. If you woke up from a 30 year coma and ended up in here you probably wouldn’t think any time had passed (except skating and texting?). Even the music!
The floor is kinda busted up but for a 5 hour, $ 5 admission, who cares? Skate rentals were cheap too, maybe $ 2, and the skates were in decent shape.
This place is crawling with kids. All the moms having parties were probably checking the amber alerts when three 20 somethings rolled up (literally). We stood out except for a few people who seemed like regulars doing some show off kinda moves. It’s good motivation to get better. Dodging awkward kids on skates makes for some great braking and turning practice. On that same note, watching people eat it on skates is entertainment in itself.
I’m going back ASAP with intentions of renting this joint out completely for a huge birthday party. All I did was laugh. And, I’ll be checking out ‘adult night’ for sure.

So many great memories! My daughter learned to skate here and many a Sat. was pleasantly passed me on the sidelines watching her win races. Prize? A token for a soda. Doing the Chicken dance and the Hokey Pokey. Wholesome fun for the entire family.

I love this place! I recently went here with a few of my friends because we wanted to do something different for her birthday, rather then the normal dinner/​bar/​dancing combo. I used to come to Palace ALL the time from about ages 12 – 15. One thing I can say is that the décor has not changed at all since I was a kid. They are def. overdue in updating the look of the place. Also, the bathrooms can be a bit funky at times.
Aside from that, I still love it. It’s $ 7 to get in and $ 3 for a skate rental. You can choose either regular roller skates or rollerblades, and the rental price is the same for both. They have lockers for your shoes which run about $.50. There is a spot to get food there where they sell the usual pizza, nachos, pretzels, icees, funnel cake, fries, soda, etc. The prices are
cheap when it comes to the food, which is nice, but its nothing special.
They also offer birthday party packages where you can rent out the upstairs for a party for a pretty good price. They have all different skating sessions, including an all-​adult session on Saturdays from 10:30 — 12:30 am. The staff is friendly & they offer video games, ski-​ball, and other arcade-​style games to play when not skating. With the tickets you win playing those games you can take it to the skate shop and exchange them for prizes. It’s def. a great place for kids & I will continue to come back here as long as it is open!

This has become a favorite weekend activity for our family. Our kids are really enjoying skating and getting much better. The family session on Saturday mornings (11 am to 1 pm) is a great deal and a lot of fun for the kids.
The skate rentals have something to be desired, but the staff is really nice, and it is an affordable fun time with the family.
