This is my second straight cloudy/rainy Tuesday at the Point of Destination café in the Upsal train station in Mt. Airy(outbound side). I love the food, ambience, and staff! Quiche is batting a thousand! Last week’s seafood quiche brimming with shrimp on top(!) and veggies and a perfect sauce is equalled by this week’s salmon, spinach, cheddar quiche. Huge piece with big, fresh chunks of poached salmon, perfect spinach, and cheddar. Great thin, flaky pie crust, tall, and fluffy. The salted caramel latte and cappuccino I had were delicious, and I’ve been hankering grits for awhile. A big bowl of grits with an ample side of brown sugar, a dollop of butter, and creamer each time. Side salad is also part of this yummy breakfast or brunch. Of course, I have to try their ancient grain oatmeal, pancakes, challah French toast, omelets, quesadillas, salads, paninis, falafel burgers, potato pancake waffles, unusual tuna melts, and rotating specials. Wow. It’s a rustic train station and a great place to eat, socialize, read a book and shmooze with the lovely staff, Carol, Diane, and Tracy. A true find so go check out POD by yourself or with friends and enjoy!

We must have gone on an «off» day. These are some of the reasons why I’m giving this place 1 star: 1) Our server wiped down the table, and didn’t dry it. Our table was soaking wet. 2) We had to ask our server for cream and spoons for our coffee FOURTIMES. By the time it arrived, our coffee was cold. 3) Our server didn’t tell us that lunch wasn’t available on weekends. We didn’t find out until we were ready to order. 4) My nephew ordered fried eggs, and received eggs sunny side up. 5) My $ 14 shrimp & grits were runny and under-seasoned. 6) The service was terrible. TERRIBLE! UPDATE: The owner contacted me, to resolve my concerns. She was attentive, and deserves a second chance.

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. Do not rent this place as a venue space. The owner is very rude but will gladly take your money. I rented the space for a party and the owner seemed nice but after I payed the deposit her attitude changed quickly. If I would call or email to ask a question about the space she would either respond weeks later or be upset that I was asking a question. Before I made a deposit she acted very pleasant and spoke highly about the space. On the actual day of the party she caught an attitude because I asked her for help with moving a table. So many people I know have had bad experiences here but have not used Unilocal to tell their story. Besides the actual event space the food is terrible. You have been warned!

Today I stopped in on my way to a doctor appointment at 9:30 am to grab a breakfast sandwich and medium ice tea. It was $ 5.50 for runny egg whites with cheese that made me vomit in my mouth. I couldn’t stomach it! I think the eggs had gone bad. They charged me for an iced coffee. When I ordered a medium iced tea $ 3.50 for 10oz of unsweetened ice tea. That’s a lot of some flavored water! All in it was over $ 10 for food I couldn’t eat. Next time I’ll just wait for WaWa and save $ 7. The owner and her daughter were very pleasant but I don’t feel that my stomach can take this!

Point of Destination is not only re-opened for business, but the owners came back doing it big! If you’re familiar with them, come on back. They have a lot of new menu items that are sure to please. If you’re a new kid on the block, stop in and give them a try. My husband and I have been here for various events in the past, but this was our first visit here for brunch. I had the chicken and waffles; hubby had the sausage and cheese omelette with red and green pepper hash browns. The coffee is good and strong; and the orange juice tasted fresh squeezed. Everything was superb! We were stuffed to the gills as we waddled back to the car. Point of Destination will be our go to spot when we’re in the neighborhood.

All I can say is I am soooooo glad Carroll is back!!! I love POD! The food is consistant and the counseling is free! Carroll is a great hostess and proprietor and you can feel the love in the place. I love getting up on a nice crisp morning and heading over to the POD for coffee and a treat or breakfast. I have hosted many events at Point of Destination and they have all went on without a hitch. Only drawback, they don’t do dinner… yet.

Great coffee and always good vegan treats. I just wish I knew their hours! I feel like there’s not a consistent schedule. :(For folks taking the train into center city, it would be amazing if the place could open by 7:30a.

This restaurant/café is an incredible secret little gem nestled next to the Upsal train station in Mount Airy. It’s really easy to miss, but try really hard not to. For vegan dining, pastries and beverages, it is truly top notch. One may think they stumbled into a little neighborhood coffee shop, which it is, but it is much more than that. All of their offerings are of the quality you’d find in a super-chic, hipster eatery. The staff is very friendly, courteous, helpful; all of the things they are supposed to be — but at a level that stands out because it doesn’t happen often enough. Each time I’ve come here,(which is three times) I’ve been treated very well. Not a thing to complain about in my experiences. Not a thing. I could write a fuller review if I had tried more of their menu, but their attention to detail, and level of quality assures me that everything will be just as good. Highly recommended.
