I have to completely agree with the only other recent review on here. I used to come here years ago. Back then, the attitude from the lady who owned the place was bad, but I dealt with it because she has fresh produce at reasonable prices. I recently visited on two different occasions. the attitude has gotten worse and the produce has taken a nosedive! The veggies are no longer fresh– think use them the same day or lose them. Moreover, the prices have skyrocketed. The cherries were mostly rotten the last two times that I bought them. I know, fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. There will not be a third time. The asparagus was so full of sand and dirt that even after washing them for 5 minutes, my family took one bite and crunch crunch. There are much better places to get fresh produce. Bad customer service + bad produce= time to go elsewhere. P. S., the lady who owns the place should let her daughter take over the store. She is very pleasant and can probably turn the place around.

There’s been no fresh review for this place in a few years. Much has changed in the Italian Market. With the influx of several Latino merchants, Scott & Judy’s is no longer the place with the freshest produce. And, the others sell it cheaper — without the heavy dose of attitude and zero customer service that you get from the woman who seems to be one of the owners. Now that they have freshness competitors, I’ve noticed a decline in their freshness but no decline in prices. They’ll either figure out the customer service & competition thing or probably be gone. I’d guess their drop in quality may be a direct result of better competition who know how to provide quality at a good price, without the nasty attitude.

Love Scott and Judy’s – a couple weeks ago when it was really cold they were closed for no apparent reason and it made me pissed. I concur this is the best produce in the Italian Market, and even if it isn’t as cheap, it’s still pretty damn cheap. Produce shouldn’t even be as «insanely cheap» as it is at some of the other vendors. The only thing that I’ve purchased here that I wasn’t satisfied with was some peaches at the end of the summer. But I also bought crappy peaches from a farmer’s market around here and have since come to the conclusion that good peaches are not produced in the state of Pennsylvania. The selection is great and I always come here to get things like leeks, shallots and celery root. They also have some canned goods and other items inside, also at very reasonable prices. Cento tomatoes, for example. The best part is that the woman who’s always working there(Judy??) bags all your produce as you shop for it. It’s like having a personal shopper – you just hand stuff to her and she weighs it all, tallies it up and bags it for you. And she is always very friendly.

I’ve been burned a many times in the«Market» with food that doesn’t make it through the night. BUT this is the only reputable stand in the market. Fresh everything and very nice people. Take it from someone who lived in the market for years, ONLY go to Scott and Judy’s for produce and veggies.

I agree that this is the best vendor in the Italian Market for fruits and vegetables. My wife and I have been here several times and they have good quality produce. As the other commentor said, some of the other spots may be cheaper but their produce is so ripe its often on the verge of rotting. Decent selection of plants as well.

Scott & Judy’s is the best produce vendor in the Italian Market. Giordano’s, on the highly visible corner of 9th and Wash, is the cheapest, but their vegetables are so ripe they verge on rotting and are not a good value. This stand has beautiful fruit, vegetables and herbs and the prices are much better than the supermarket. I purchased a dozen lemons, a pound of shallots, three heads of cauliflower, a peck of peppers, and much much more for about $ 20 in the dead of winter. The person tending the store will help you bag up all your vegetables and round down to the nearest dollar when you pay in cash. Highly recommended for those on a food budget who want to get lots of fresh fruit and veg in their diet.
