I was robbed outside of this bar last night by a patron who told me he was a marine returning from combat. That about sums up this joint. Avoid at all costs. If this neighborhood had any guts they would shut this place down.

Scotty’s is a real neighborhood bar, full of real neighborhood people. I LOVE passing time here, I love their juke-box, their specials, the owners, and I love the bar-friends I’ve made here. It deserves 4-stars even though the neighborhood it’s in is not the best and every few years there is a shooting outside on the street or somewhere nearby… Personally, I stick to afternoons and happy hours, but even that is feeling iffy these days(sadly, there was a murder outside of the bar just a week ago, and who wants to walk out the door into a crime scene, or worse, a drive-by?). The things about Scotty’s that make me loyal despite potential risks: 1. Their burgers. Mouthwateringly delicious, tantalizingly aromatic, and only $ 3.($ 3.25 with cheese). Nothing fancy(no Royal Tavern, this)– just fantastically seasoned beef, a great cook, and a stroehman roll. 2. Their specials: Mondays all $ 4 beers are $ 3 and $ 3 beers are only $ 2, Citywides are $ 1.50; Wednesdays– buckets of Bud, Miller, Corona are like $ 5 – 6, and Yuengling is $ 6-$ 7(it’s been a while since i made it in on a Wednesday); Saturday mornings is the Hangover Breakfast Guild, wherein that fantastic cook makes an unbelievable breakfast spread and you get a ticket for a plate with every drink you buy! By 4 pm they are raffling off drinks, shots, prizes– it’s like a party every Saturday afternoon! 3. The people. Everybody minds their own business, but it doesn’t take long for people to scope you out and for you to make connections. In a very short time, i felt like part of the family. The owners are awesome and have great parties. 4. the decorations: They go all out for every holiday. Since Memorial Day they’ve had a patriotic theme going, and there’s something that feels good about seeing a love of America all around you :) 5. Their Jukebox: INCREDIBLE selection of music, from soulful 60s to funky 70’s to pounding 2000s. You will hear everything from rarities like Bobby Womack’s «Facts of Life/He’ll be There,» to classics like the Isley’s «Fight the Power(Parts 1&2), to modern crap like Beyonce and Rihanna. On Saturday nights they have a DJ doing current rap/r&b/hip hop, and on Sunday nights he comes backand does a rip-roaring night of Soul, Funk and Shake-Your-Ass R&B… Don’t come here with an attitude, don’t come here with expectations, jut be real, be you and have fun.
