Our experimental data critical to our next publication was stored in a hard drive that suffered a serious mechanical failure. In it stores several hundred gigabytes worth of images in “tiff” format, recorded during experiments that will take months to reproduce the set-​up.
Various attempts were made by several hard drive recovery companies that are recommended by online evaluation websites. Despite the hefty price tag on a successful recovery, all of them declared inability to recover the needed data from the hard drive. The severity of the hard drive damage is obvious.

My external hard drive contained the only record of my professional life over the past many years, as well as every digital photo I ever took, which included my kids growing up and family vacations.
