Two-words: Bento Box!!! Tempura and gyoza were cooked just right and california rolls were good.

On Father’s Day, my family and I were looking for a nice sushi restaurant that has quiet and spacious ambience. I remembered that I had a wonderful experience with my friend who took me there last time, so I took my family there. The service was very good. The waitress was very attentitive and cordial. They give hot towels to clean the hands! We ordered hardcore sushi plate, crazy roll, Japanese steak, and individual sushi(mackerel, squid, fluke). They were all delicious. The rice was perfectly seasoned and the steak sauce was not to sweet or salty. I highly recommend the place and will return.

I had dinner here tonight. My first visit, but certainly not my last. The food was delicious and the service outstanding and friendly.

It’s a good classic Japanese restaurant. The sushi is always fresh. It is more expensive than most

I had dinner in this place. I ordered Veggie Teriyaki, Udon noodle and avocado rolls, all of which were presented well. The Udon soup is so great, I had a lot since it is so warm. Staff are nice and considerate in this place. I’ll definitely go back to this place when I’m around.

I’ve been going to Shiroi Hana for about four years now and have never been disappointed. There have been times when I would go here once or twice a week. Not only does Shiroi Hana have fresh sushi and unique rolls that I haven’t seen in other sushi restaurants in Philly(I highly recommend the Island Roll; it’s my personal favorite), but it offers an array of Japanese-style chicken, steak, and cooked fish which is great when you have less adventurous members of your party who aren’t crazy about the idea of raw fish. In addition to the normal menu, they have included an insert for a special«spicy» menu for the past few months. I have tried everything on it and love it all. From a price perspective, Shiroi Hana is a bit more expensive than small sushi bars. However, it is less expensive than other ultra modern, swankier sushi places like Raw and Zama. That being said, Shiroi Hana’s ambiance is somewhere in between, so I’d say it has a pretty casual vibe that can be dressed up or down. Dinner guests are usually a combination of locals from the neighborhood and also business people staying nearby or theater-goers.

An authentic Japanese restaurant. Got the Hardcore sushi and it was great. Also ordered the Daifuku mochi that was also good. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a real Japanese run restaurant.

I recently met friends for dinner at Shiroi Hana. They picked the spot and despite having walked past it a million times, I had never been there before. Of course I needed to look at the menu and read the Unilocal reviews prior to my visit. So as it turns out, the website had been hacked. I couldn’t menu stalk and I’m hoping it didn’t infect my computer with a virus. Yikes. I mentioned this to someone who worked there and they had only noticed the issue the night before. I had been on the website approximately one week prior to our dinner. Yikes again. To my surprise, since I hadn’t seen a menu, the sushi was a little pricy. The specialty roles were a little above standard, but the basic rolls were high. Typically in situations like this, I’ll go with a maki combo to maximize my sushi and my dollar… but they didn’t have one. So I went with a glass of house merlot, a tuna roll and an eel avocado roll. The group split an edamame as an appetizer. Everything was fine, but generally unimpressive. The edamame had zero flavor and no salt or seasoning was added. We ordered the basic edamame, but a little something would have been nice. I dipped it in my soy sauce and it was just ok. Similarly with my rolls, they were fine but just standard. The service was fine as well. They were as attentive as we needed them to be. I left a little hungry and with a little less money in my wallet than I would have liked. I’ll be passing on Shiroi Hana in the future.

Some of the freshest, most delicious sushi I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I got only a few items, but they were all amazing: Rock n’ Roll roll Snow crab California roll Miso soup Fried gyoza I can’t wait to go back!

Food is ok. Fish is fresh. Somehow too much sauce and décor on the sushi for me. The room is nicely decorated. The service can have some improvement.15 min waiting time for the table is to much.

This is a great sushi joint. The interior is a little austere but I would like to think it is because the fish should speak for itself. I have always found the fish very fresh and reasonably priced. I am a bit of a purist when it comes to sushi so have never tried any of the specialty rolls. The sake selection is solid and I have always found the servers to be very pleasant and professional.

This is one of my favorite sushi places in philly. I had the spicy tuna. They made it perfectly. It might be a bit overpriced but it is worth it. This is a must try sushi place.

This used to be a great restaurant, but my visit here last week was wholly unsatisfying. I ordered the tuna tartare, which was decent but nothing special– the green tobiko was rather a turnoff and out of place. My dining companions all had the sukiyaki as one of them pointed out that it used to be very good– the soup, however, was heavy and salty, and there was far too much broth for 1) traditional sukiyaki and 2) the amount of salt dumped into it. Huge gripe about the service. While waiting for the last of a party of 5 to arrive, he kept coming over to our table impatiently as if we should order. Somehow it was extremely intrusive and oddly compounded by the fact that he did not come by to fill up our tea. At the end of the meal, we wanted to split the check as we were all on separate corporate accounts. All seemed to be fine, and I wrote down the last 4 digits of everyone’s card number based on what they had ordered. Upon seeing tho(and this really has been standard no matter where I’ve gone), he listlessly asked us to calculate everything for him. I understand that splitting checks is somewhat inconvenient, but there were no other diners in our section at the time and it seems like this should be within the purview of a presumably decent sit-down restaurant. Completely unimpressed by this place and would not return.

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the city for lunchtime sushi. I find that the ‘mix 3 special’ is a steal of a deal given the excellent quality of the fish. I have converted countless coworkers into Shiroi Hana regulars, and highly recommend it. I have had most of the appetizers as well as the sushi and sashimi. Colleagues have had some of the cooked dishes if they didn’t like raw fish, and always said they liked the food. The service is also attentive and very quick, and the fish is presented nicely on the plate. Even at noon I can get in and out under an hour, which is not my experience at some other restaurants at that time.

Over priced, small portions. $ 30 for chicken Katsu(fried chicken over rice). I ordered veggie tempura and got a the brown outside piece of the onion. $ 9 of tempura, some of it not edible. Not worth it, never again!

Their business hours are not 5pm. it is 5:30pm! It is abit later then other restaurants, but 30min was so worth it! I ordered Sashimi plater. They presented 3 pieces per fish and there were 4 different fishes.(total 12 sashimi) When I saw the dish, I was bit disappointed about the amount/varieties compare to the price, but it was so worth it! It was fresh(of course) and the thickness of the sashimi were pretty decent, so it full me up very quickly. I am very look forward to visit this place again. Very good service or course!!!

Incredible sushi! Especially enjoyed the double eel roll and SST hand roll. Food is incredible. Beer options could be better, and would be nice to have an unfiltered sake option without having to buy a whole bottle. But still highly recommend.

My coworker took me here for lunch for my birthday. I feel kind of bad because even though I got a feel meal, I wouldn’t say this is the best sushi I’ve had. The prices here are outrageous compared to other sushi joints around town(near rittenhouse or old city). Even basic rolls cost like $ 7, $ 1 – 3 dollars more compared to other places. Special rolls cost about the same but smaller with more rice. I guess compared to the other high end restaurants in this part of town, the prices are reasonable. I got a nigiri/sashimi special and got to try some of their fish. The fish seemed fresh and the plate arrangement was very nice. I did not like how they cut their fish though. The fish was cut very long and skinny, not easily eaten in one bite like sushi is supposed to be eaten. They also put cuts through each piece of salmon and tuna for my sashimi, maybe to improve the texture of the fish but it didn’t really do anything. The raw fish was strangely hard and reminded me of the texture of jello. This could be that their fish might actually be fresh(not previously frozen) but I actually prefer the softer/mushier, previously frozen fish from Vic’s. If you have had Vic’s, there’s definitely a difference. The worst part and the reason why I would not come back here is their sushi rice is messed up! It was all HARD and it NOTSTICKY at all. When I tried to dip my nigiri in the soy sauce, the rice fell apart and crumble all over. This is not proper sushi.

Sober modern décor(neither bling bling nor generic Asian). Good shrimp shumai. But the rest was pretty bad. Greasy gyoza, subquality fish(some fishy, some mushy). Service was cold and could not understand plain English. Definitely not coming back.

I went here after Vic Sushi Bar, so unfortunately I can’t give it 5 stars due to the prices being a little higher than Vic. It was still really good though! It chic inside with tons of seating(I didn’t even realize the gigantic area upstairs with another bar until I had to use the restroom). The seafood in the rolls was some of the most fresh and delicious I’ve had in a while, and the giant heaping quadrants of fried ice cream drizzled in chocolate sauce definitely didn’t disappoint. I’d definitely come back here for a nice, low-key dinner with a group of people, but there’s other places with way cheaper sushi in the city.

After a long, beautiful sunset run on the river, I was starving for sushi. I was visiting the area and saw the great Unilocal reviews so I thought this was the spot for me. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was quaint and well kept. I ordered the Sushi Heaven Plate and thought it was OK. The sushi was fresh, but there was nothing extraordinary. No unique flavors, no incredible textures. Just straightforward, average sushi. For dessert I tried the fried ice cream and was pretty disappointing. The ice cream itself was still rock hard when it came to the table and the dough was still spongy textured on the inside, which I have never experienced before. Not really a place I would go back to again.

I’m always iffy about trying new spots, especially when it comes to sushi. Worried if it’s not authentic enough or if the fish wont be fresh… But this was AMAZING. It hit the spot! The sushi was delicious and very fresh. The waitress was super friendly, even offered to change our table cuz we were orginally seated at two person table, but we ordered so much, that she asked if we would be more comfortable in a bigger table, an extra plus that she noticed! We went about 530pm on a weekday, and by 630, there were already ppl waiting. Atmosphere was nice, service was great, food was superb, why wouldn’t i be back? =)
