I have been shopping at both the old and new location since they opened in 2013. First and foremost, the owners who are a couple are top rate people. Personable, knowledgeable and fair. They have a consistently rotating stock of new arrivals, well organized and reasonably priced. They offer a 10% discount when utilizing their custom record bag. I sincerely enjoy shopping here when I get a chance to visit my old South Philly neighborhood. I enjoy the new location, plenty of street parking, easy to get to off the expressway, and it is clean, well light and organized record store. They offer a variety of rock, metal, punk, hardcore, crossover, grind, Et al. The Barry Manaloe 9SIC0 picture disc above the toilet rules :) They are both laid back and cool to speak with, they do not hassle you when you browse and I genuinely like dealing with them. I wish they were in South hilly when I lived there before 1992! My only«complaint» is I noticed a slight increase in some of their prices compared to previous visits at the former location. I definitely recommend this record store, particularly if you are into metal and punk music. They have a vast selection of vinyls: 7″, some 10″ and 12″. Tapes and CDs too, primarily used. I wish them the best with the new location, they have a repeat customer in me.

This shop has a killer selection, especially if you’re into metal, hardcore, or punk, which I am. They also have a nice selection of other genres, but definitely cater to heavier tunes. I’m an avid record fanatic /digger and have gone to shops all around the country(and world), and this is a super solid shop, especially for its size. Very friendly staff and the prices can’t be beat. I’m a fan and will definitely make another trip from DC in the near future to come back and dig.

This place is still as awesome like it was on 9th street, but more room! They have awesome selection of vinyl from punk, metal, hip hop, reggae, etc. so you’re bound to find something good. The prices are very reasonable here and there is no record store snobbery! This is probably the best place in South Philly to buy music!

Such a great place! I was visiting Philly and saw a punk/hardcore/metal shop pop up online, so made it a priority to check it out. Philly is lucky to have this place. The owners clearly care a LOT about what they’re doing and about the local scene. They make it a priority to stock local releases and other merch. Prices were excellent — if you go off discogs prices, they were usually near or below the average, and almost certainly in better condition. Even IF you lived in a town where someone spent this much time to keep such an amazing collection replenished(and they DO have an amazing collection here — from 70s bootlegs and original pressings to a crazy selection of new releases), you’d be hard pressed to find better deals. There is an EXTENSIVE selection of 7“s too — many very rare pressings long oop down to a ton of dollar singles. As a professor who studies early German punk, I was pretty shocked to find a early 80s 7″ from Vorkriegsjugend — one of the most influential West German punk bands period. You don’t see that kind of stuff in Germany let alone in the US, but there it was just hanging out in a box in Philly. I’d go on about their selection but you get the drift. It’s very very good. Alright. The store has a great laid back vibe(although depending on what they’re spinning, sometimes not the quietest) — none of the sanctimonious record snobbery you see so often. It also seemed like a scene meeting place, as there was always conversation to be had and a flow of people in and out. They’re definitely in the know about shows and other happenings in the area too, so if you’re looking for info, this would be a no-brainer of a first stop. It’s also one of the cleanest, well-kept and well-curated shops I’ve ever been in. If you like the music and you’re in Philly and you don’t spend a couple hours digging here, you’re seriously missing out. I didn’t expect a specialty record shop to be one of the highlights of my trip, but it was. And if you’re interested in the scene or music, you should check it out too — the punk and metal communities often get a hard rap — go check out what great people many of them are. They’ve got a bunch of heavily-edited major-label favorites(Stones, Dylan, New Wave, etc) and even a bit of classical — so don’t feel like there’d be nothing there. These sorts of independent stores really need community support, and any scene would be better off with a place like this. If you’re in Philly, hopefully you’re already a fan. And if you’re visiting — get down there!
