Stopped in during happy hour today, a surprise treat from my nephew and his girlfriend. Walking in, it was hard to figure out if the place was open, closed or possibly permanently closed. .. finally we were told to «sit anywhere, even outside». We chose to sit outside, where the only other table of customers were also seated. Outside was a bad idea because of the bugs, but that’s not their fault — it IS summer. Our waiter seemed to wish he was somewhere else. My nephew ordered a Long Island Iced Tea which looked cloudy and odd, and apparently tasted the same, as he barely touched it and said later that it tasted funny. I was going to have a Stoli and tonic, but was told that the only vodka they had was Grey Goose and Ciroc — two of the most over-rated and pricey vodkas on the market(don’t get me started — I’ll pay for good stuff, these do not fit those categories — Grey Goose is a low-level vodka with great marketing). So, I just passed on the drink. Appetizer of fried calamari was incredibly salty, served with an odd little sauce that I was able to make a little more tolerable with some tabasco. They got the skewers — his with beef and shrimp and her with chicken. She liked the chicken(but not the peanut sauce) and, his was cooked WAY past the medium rare that he had requested. I got the South Street Burger. I ordered it medium, it came well-done. Topped with pork roll and«cracked egg». I swear, the pork roll was just a slice of spam — and tasted as such. The egg — I honestly wouldn’t have known what it was had it not been listed on the menu — it was burned to a blackened crisp. The burger just had an odd taste. The potato wedges served with it were fine, but most likely frozen, thrown into the fryer from a big bag. We all commented, as we were leaving, that the place seemed to be a place that had just given up. We were there for about an hour — and, other than the table that was there when we arrived, no one else came in. The bar, as I looked closer as we were leaving, was incredibly under stocked — with several bottles/versions of Ciroc and Grey Goose and a couple of bottles of Smirnoff. My home bar is MUCH better stocked than this commercial one.

I have to rate Skewers a solid 3 stars, because the food is a 4BUT I have concerns about the management and the atmosphere. I sat at a table out front with my boyfriend, because we walked inside at 5:30pm and the restaurant smelled like smoke(probably because they have hookahs) and it was SO dark it felt like I was walking into a club which was totally awkward especially considering the place was empty. There was an outside patio in the back, but we chose to sit at the one table out front so we could people watch on South Street. Our server was friendly, but maybe too honest/blunt/unprofessional when we asked him some questions. He didn’t recommend the Fried Calamari and he told us that they were out of the Seafood Dumplings but were serving Pork instead… needless to say Seafood Dumplings were served to us we were a bit confused. The wings are 50 cents all night Monday which was a good deal, but we were told the ONLY beer on tap was Miller Light and that the tap was faulty so it would take awhile to get a draft??? For being a «bar and grill» I found it strange that they don’t have a printed drink menu. My boyfriend tried a bottle of the Victory Hopp Devil beer for $ 6. He sampled the Mango Habanero(surprisingly sweet-not spicy) and Chipotle BBQ Wings(smoky and spicy). For happy hour we also tied the $ 5 small plates– Loaded Fries and Fried Seafood Dumplings. The fries were surprisingly good since they are hand cut potato wedges and we were told the dumplings are handmade also by their Chinese chef. We were a little disappointed that for the name of the restaurant our Rosemary Chicken and Apple Skewer was NOT actually served on a big skewer. The dish was well seasoned, perhaps a little salty for some people and came with a large side of potato wedges and grilled asparagus. Overall I thought the food was good, but maybe a little expensive for the setting and unprofessional nature of the help(while we were dining we heard screaming inside the restaurant but we didn’t know if it was a fight or just employees speaking loudly?) I had a Groupon for this visit, but I wouldn’t rush back unless I was maybe trying to take advantage of their free happy hour offered on the website.

Went for dinner tonight with a friend and used a Groupon. I had the chicken skewers and my friend had the surf and turf. Both meals were very good. The food was fresh with great potato wedges and asparagus. The server/bartender was extremely nice. I’m going back for their small plates which are reduced for happy hour. Give them a try!

This place was extremely disappointing. My friend«won» a happy hour that was basically an hour of open bar. This open bar was to include all draft beer and well drinks. However, when we got there at 7pm, they informed us that the draft beer system was down because someone had messed with the gas. We all ordered well drinks instead. Then they let us know that the tonic water was messed up, followed by letting us know that there would be no carbonation in any of the drinks. All drinks were served in small plastic cups and we were told to bring our cups up anytime we wanted another drink. All in all, first impression was that this place is pretty terrible and unprepared for a scheduled happy hour. Giving two stars for assuming management didn’t prepare the staff for the whole situation and the bartender being somewhat accommodating.

love this place. I’ve been coming at least once every two weeks for a few months. the food is pretty incredible. the chef is a great guy, and every single thing I’ve ever ordered was amazing. every time I come, i’m stuck with the same quandry: get something i’ve had that I know is amazing, or try something new that will probably be amazing. and the bartender, kait, is awesome. she’s so nice. she works really hard too, as a bartender and a waitress. but she just takes care of you and is genuine. i like this place cause it’s not crowded, the people are really nice, and i love the atmosphere. it’s a very«homey,» comfortable atmosphere. this is my new spot, and i’ll keep coming around.

Delicious food, very reasonable prices. Very friendly owner who doubled as waiter. The grilled mac and cheese appetizer was really good. The grilled chicken skewer we ate was a substantial portion with skewered, grilled veggies and even pineapple, and a lot of tasty potato wedges, mixed with sweet potato.

We went here for drinks — the drinks were good, but it was a bit pricey for the atmosphere.

Great place! Good food, had a sample on the house(fried chips, aioli, pico de gallo and gazpacho). OMG! I also had the teriyaki pineapple burger and it was amazing. The bartender Lindsay was really nice and attentive. Definitely a good time.
