I’ve read the some of the glowing reviews of this place and I can’t believe they’re referring to the same Sluggersville I experienced on my recent visit with my son’s 9 year old baseball team. First off, the facility is a dump, I understand that it’s basically a warehouse, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be cleaned. There are serious safety concerns as well. For some reason the«party room» floor was painted with a very slippery high gloss finish, so much so that they wouldn’t let the kids enter the room before talking to them about it. There is also an extension cord running across the middle of the room connected to a neon sign in the window. The potential for one of the kids tripping on the poorly taped down cord and smashing a neon sign is incredibly high. Once we got into the cages, I was amazed to learn that there was no requirement for the kids to wear helmets while batting or any other time in the cages. When I asked the coach about this he stated«I’ve never hit a kid». It’s unbelievable that a facility that caters to young children would not mirror the same safety requirements as the leagues they serve. It is stupid to allow kids of that age(or any age) to play without basic protective gear. Coach Mike«Zoom» Zolk may know baseball, but his language is completely inappropriate for children. During this week’s visit, for some reason the coach had the kids playing rock, paper, scissors, I don’t understand what this has to do with baseball but that’s not the point. When coach Zoom beat my 9 year old son, he told him«don’t bring a gun to a knife fight, b***ch». It this the kind of language a coach and mentor should be using? I’ve heard praise for this guy left and right but always with the caveat that he’s a little rough around the edges. Calling a 9 year old a b***ch is far beyond rough around the edges, it’s flagrantly inappropriate and abusive. When I called to speak with Mike about this and request my money back for this and the future sessions that my son would not be attending, he accused me of trying to rip him off and stated, «you are one of those uppity, white collar types who doesn’t understand the true situation of the world». It is unbelievable to think that the owner of a business would dream of speaking to a customer that way. I will not be returning to Sluggersville, and I will be sharing this experience with every parent that will listen to make sure that their kids don’t have the same experience that mine did.

My son has had lessons at 2 different All-Star Baseball Academy locations, numerous baseball camps and there’s no comparison to Zoom’s lessons. He has fun with the kids, challenges them and is straight with the parents. All Star just wanted to string me along for my money and I don’t think I ever got my full ½ or hours worth from start to end. Zoom has recently taken over as owner and I look forward to the future here. Highly recommended.
