I would like to counter the other statement by Albert L. And I will state that yes, Crash is a smaller to mid size studio in Philadelphia and is a Pro Tools HD3 Accel Facility. There isn’t an SSL or Neve or racks and racks of outboard gear. Other competitors may have that and a giant boutique mic closet. However, there is one thing that Studio Crash has that those studios do not have. It’s Mike Harmon. Mike has been engineering for over 20 years and many would say that his«ears» alone are worth more than the already competitive rate that Studio Crash offers. Sure you can have all that gear mentioned above, but if you aren’t an experienced pro in the industry, how can you operate it, or know what«this or that» does? I’ve witnessed on many occasions seeing Mike utilize 100% of all the gear he has to the best of his ability. That is a true audio engineer. LIsten to the recordings and examples! The mixes are smooth and full. His work is legit, and somehow he manages to make the«not-so-professional» band sound like PRO and Top 40. He is one of the fastest Pro Tools engineers I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been in many studios in NYC and Philadelphia. His work with vocalists and acapella groups led him to be the top choice for all of U-Penn’s Acapella groups. I personally would love to see what he can do given the chance to work on an SSL or Neve Console with tons of outboard gear and microphones. In conclusion, it’s not about the gear, its about the person. That’s what makes Studio Crash great. When choosing a recording studio, remember that they can have this or that, but do they have the one thing that counts? A great engineer.

My band is based in L.A., but I live on the east coast, which makes recording slightly cumbersome. I had two tunes on which I needed to put down vocal tracks, so I searched for a studio with not only a ProTools setup, but with an engineer who specialized in vocalists. Welcome to Studio Crash! Warm, clean studio, plenty of parking, good vibe, very professional but easygoing staff. Calls /emails were returned promptly, the pricing was fair and up front, the technology was top notch, and the engineer was really knowledgeable, great with the toolset, and a super-solid musician. I trusted him entirely and never felt like I had to dumb anything down for him. He intuitively knew what weird stuff I was going for, and he helped me nail it. Having recorded in countless studios, this one definitely is among my favorites. I will definitely be back for the next album.
