Ive been a member of Sweat for a little over 3 years now. I recently started taking classes and I have to say my favorite instructors are Sharee who’s a barre instructor and is just great all around and Rachel who’s the spin instructor Tuesday nights. Absolutely love taking both of their classes. If youre looking to switch up your routine, Id suggest taking their classes, youll have a ton of fun and and an awesome workout!

I have very few positive remarks to make about this gym…
Eager to get back into shape, I took up the opportunity to have 2 free personal training classes, was impressed and thereafter signed up for a monthly membership and paid $ 300 for 10×30 minute training sessions. My trainer cancelled on me 2 – 3 times (largely understandable as I cancelled once myself). I then received a text around November stating that he would be out for surgery until January and would get in touch with me then regarding my remaining sessions, which I had already paid for. Come today, nearly May, and I was never contacted. Could I have taken the initiative myself? Yes. Should I have to as the client? No, not in my opinion. Training aesthetics aside, I was underwhelmed and overall disappointed given the high hopes that I had starting out.
Now here’s the worst part… I have been eager to cancel my membership for some time now. I called the gym 4 times this week, with no one answering the phone 3 of those times. I called today asking to cancel, thinking it would be a quick and painless process… False. I was given an 888 number to contact ABC company. I had to give the reason for my cancellation (moving out of state). I was asked if I was moving greater than 25 miles away from the location and told that I would have to provide documentation (lease agreement, utility bill, newly administered license, school schedule) to validate my reasoning. Keep in mind, this is for a GYM MEMBERSHIP! Being that I’m moving back home with my family, I stated that I would not have any of these documents available. I was asked if I have a documented lease agreement with my parents (!!) or if my name would be on the utility bills. Again, neither are applicable, so I am to send my bank and credit card statements with proof of address. Aside from that, there is a cancellation fee of $ 50… For what?! Already aggravated, I asked if I wasn’t moving, what other reason would be permissible, to which I was informed that if I was not moving more than 25 miles away, I would not be able to cancel my membership… AT ALL until September… as per the «yearly contract» that I signed. Funny since I was told I could cancel at any time being that the payments are deducted monthly, not in a lump sum. Not to mention there is 3 – 5 business days for this, 5 business days for that in regards to them reviewing my paperwork, and all the while I am responsible for making the payments for the membership that I won’t be using. I have never felt so duped in my life. I can’t even fathom that such a detailed and ridiculous process is associated with a below average facility.
Such a scam. Take your money and your sanity and go elsewhere.

I signed up for the gym on a first 2 months free deal. Well, I’ve been charged for both of those first 2 months. I called in a couple days ago to ask them to take care of it. I was told that the manager would call me back later that day. This never happened. So I just called today, and the guy on the phone said to me «You need to start remembering the name of the person that you talked to last for me to help you out. Just something for you to change moving forward» in a condescending tone. Um, no… your employees need to do their job and get things taken care of. It is not my responsibility to remember the name so that when an issue is not taken care of, I can give it to you when I call back. He also informed me that that deal never existed, that they only do 1 month free deals. Sorry, bud, but I have emails from 2 different people that say otherwise. So again, I am now waiting for the manager to call back. I attempted to call the cell number that was provided to me by the manager when I signed up and it didn’t seem legit. I also tried to email the email from which she had emailed me to sign up. Will be cancelling this membership, which from the looks of the other reviews posted, will be quite the dramatic experience. I will update once (if) I hear back from a manager.

Overpriced and currently waiting for their management to open the gym. Suppose to open at 5am now 520. Typical of management at sweat.
Not a well maintained gym for the price. at 30 – 40 per month you expect more.

Billing, billing, billing. The place almost operates like a Payday loan office or a Ponzi scheme. I accidentally let my credit card on file with them expire, and they charged over $ 30 in finance charges (note that this was IMMEDIATELY after the due date for monthly membership). It is also impossible to cancel, and you have to provide a WRITTEN NOTICE 60 DAYS IN ADVANCE just to cancel ANNUAL AUTO RENEW. Really terrible corporate monster, avoid like the plague.
The gym itself is OK, but very few classes and no pool.

Second time this week they did not open on time. Waited over half and hour each time and then gave up. Sadly this is not unusual. Canceling my membership today.

Only thing good about it location. Asked attendant if tvs good be changed to cbs to watch game during run, and was told didn’t know how or if they got that channel.
If you want to workout circa 1995 this gym is for you. They haven’t updated equipment since then either.

I was a very loyal member to this gym for 8 months, but after having a very awful time canceling my membership I’m changing my review from 4 starts to 1 for this gym. I was a member here for 8 months and it was just okay– out of date machinery, young, immature staff who didn’t tend the front desk, very uncleanly (there were various mousetraps set up at one point).
The number 1 reason for my dissatisfaction is the way they handle cancellations and the lack of communication of management. I canceled my membership at the end of September because I moved to where there wasn’t a convenient Sweat Fitness. I was told there would be a $ 50 cancellation which I was okay with. When i checked my bank statement the next day and I saw the $ 50 charge along with another $ 40 monthly charge. I was confused why I was charged for another month. I gave the gym a call and they said they would have a manager call me back. A few minutes later I got another call (not from the manager) saying that I should bring in my bank statements in– I was confused because I thought they would just be able to go into the system and look up what I was charged? I did so the next day but the manager wasn’t in. I left my name and number multiple times and even emailed the manager and heard nothing for a week.
When i finally heard back they said that because I canceled on the day I was usually billed I was charged for another month…
Bottom line– save yourself from this rip off gym. It’s not in any way shape or form worth your $ 40/​month.

More like a 2.5er Sweat gym offers a small amount of workout equipment and cardio machines. Located right on main street. They offer a variety of free classes and for the most part instructors are great. This sweat is cramped!
The gym is not the most accessible in the colder months with snow and ice on the ground if you live in manayunk.
On a side note, as part of the deal for signing up you get two free trials of personal training. When I scheduled my first appointment the personal trainer ended up canceling. No big deal, but not into those last minute kinds of things. Also, they are really big into freaking you out with a bmi calculator, which we all know is a false implication of fitness.
Another negative is that the staff at the front desk frequently bring food into the gym, such as wings which stink up the place, and distract me from working out.
This is a meh gym… I’m sure there are better small gyms in Manayunk as well as a nice planet fitness up the road on ridge.
Finally, they spam the bejesus out of you with promotional emails even if you ask them to stop.

I’m contemplating legal action against this gym. I have never stepped a foot in SWEAT, and certainly never signed a contract with SWEAT, yet somehow they managed to turn over a delinquent account in my name to collections. Other reviewers have mentioned this huge SCAM– I was a paying member for a few years at INTOXX gym, also in Manayunk. Things started to really go downhill there in early 2014– they fired their manager and then closed their childcare, so I cancelled my membership, but within a week of my cancellation, they closed their entire facility without notifying their members (Feb 2014). They also apparently, without any member’s permission, sold their gym memberships to SWEAT?! I wasn’t even a member of Intoxx technically at that point, but somehow SWEAT felt this was a legal business venture?! I received one invitation from SWEAT that Intoxx members were welcome there, but never contractual information of any kind. I never even called them about it, though I disliked they even had my basic contact info at that point. I joined another gym that better suited my needs without ever going into SWEAT. Now, a year and a half later, I get a letter from a collection agency listing a $ 59 delinquency to SWEAT. WHAT?! The Intoxx owner subsequently went to jail, so that should give you some indication about SWEAT’s business scruples. Avoid this gym at all costs if you want to preserve your financial security. There are enough other reviews from real SWEAT members who have had serious trouble with their billing and contracts practices also to warrant looking into other gyms in the area.

DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER, SAVE YOURSELF.
I would prefer to give Sweat Fitness zero stars, but Unilocal is more charitable than I. The facilities are mediocre at best, but more importantly, they totally screw you over in terms of contract and don’t handle their own billing. They will not let you cancel a membership easily — I didn’t even have a membership here but had my account charged by Sweat Fitness when Intoxx closed (the owner violated his parole, I’m not even joking), and the owner sold all of our information to Sweat. Unfortunately, they didn’t really tell us what was going on, and my card was charged several times. I disputed it through my bank when I had no luck with Sweat, and TWO YEARS LATER, I just had a collection agency call me about a $ 40 balance.
Avoid the subpar facilities, untrained workers and horrendous billing policies and don’t join.

I am currently in the mist of trying to cancel my membership after 2 attempts with ABC Financial. I had a great customer service experience with a gentleman named Tony. Tony took the time to review my account and we worked together to figure out the issue. I strongly suggest that anyone who is having a hard time canceling or just needs to speak to someone with great customer service without a doubt I suggest you talk to Tony.

This gym has the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. After a very unsatisfying experience with their extremely small, under-​equipped gym (I only went here in the first place because I was a member of Intoxx and when they closed my membership was automatically transferred), I decided to cancel my membership back in March and join a different gym.
Here I am, three months later and I am STILL trying to cancel my membership. I was told on the phone the first time I called that my membership would be cancelled over the phone right then and there — I did not have to do anything further or come in to sign anything. Lo and behold, I have still been getting charged for the past three months. I have called and tried to explain the situation three separate times and was told a manager would contact me. Never was contacted. I tried to call the billing company and was put on hold for a half hour. I called again and FINALLY got a hold of the manager and was told there was absolutely no record of me ever trying to cancel my membership and that he would have to call me back. This is still going on.
Bottom line, DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Go to Planet Fitness up on Ridge Ave.

I feel bad for these people with bad experiences cause mine has been great! 40/​month, I have referred people and have received the current promo (2 free months) immediately. Whoever is working is always friendly and will have a conversation with you. Best time to go is when people are at work (10am). I go to Manyunk location regularly, Ive also gone to Center City, and Chestnut St locations, Awesome Gyms! Requested information, I talked to someone, I thought it was over. They called me everyday for 5 days. I felt harassed and decided to go with another gym.

I would like to thank SWEAT Fitness for continually charging my credit card when I have never stepped a foot in your club or signed a contract. I continually try to cancel my membership with your financial provider, but it appears that both of you are incompetent. I will never recommend your club to anyone and I hope you thieves go under.

As far as gyms go, Sweat is solid. They have all the cardio equipment you’d want and a thorough selection of weights and weight machines. The space is smaller than other gyms I’ve been to, so not every machine is there but for a local gyn its got you covered. They’ve recently expanded their exercise class schedule which is a plus. Also I appreciate having the equipment for current exercise styles and not just traditional stuff.

I’ve recently had to go into the gym to try to solve this matter, after calling to cancel a month later. The lady at the front desk was very nice and seemed like she was going to try make sure my account got canceled with no charges to me, so we will see if this occurs. At the least the woman who works from 5 am to 1 pm on weekdays behind the desk is very nice with good customer service skills. I will update later if my account with SWEAT is resolved.

The monthly membership dues seem to change every other month. I started out paying $ 75/​month until a caring sweat employee had informed me of a yearly promotion that would lower my membership to $ 49/​month. So I did it. I worked out here for 3 years and I was always treated well by the workers and they were quick to help with anything I needed.
Parking sucks at this location. Unless you walk, prepare to drive around for 20 minutes or get use to parking tickets.
My issue came when i told them to stop my membership which at this point was month to month. They informed me they would charge me for two additional months. OK, I get it. no problem. Well FOUR months went by and I noticed they were still taking the fee out of my account. Not only were they still charging me, but now I was suddenly being charged $ 65/​month!!! When I called I spoke to a lady, BTW def welfare to work program in place at ABC financial, She told me my membership was never canceled since I didn’t send a $ 70 cancellation check! WTF!?! Say again!?! Why the fuck would i need to send $ 70 to cancel my membership? So after 10 minutes of talking to a woman who clearly did not go to Harvard, I gave in, Told them i will send you $ 70 just stop debiting my account. Complete Bullshit.
So in the end, SWEAT and ABC are complete rip-​offs.
