Tavern 222

Two stars only because the wings were good. I came here yesterday with a friend for some food and drinks. We walked in and sat at a table towards the back because the bar was full. We waited for someone to bring menus but no one ever did. We ended up finding some seats at the bar and once we sat down, the bartender looked at us and didn’t even utter a hello. I asked to see menus and we proceeded to order. The drinks were okay, nothing special. The food came out in good time as well. Usually bartenders will put on a nice smile or make conversation to work for a good tip. This bartender was not friendly and seemed quite annoyed. This place isn’t «bad» but I prefer places with friendlier staff.

Came here on a weekend stroll with a friend. Never had been to the bar but we gave it a shot. Walked in place was completely empty., The weather was getting bad so we decided just to stay and wait out the storm. Mistake.
We settled on a pitcher of sangria, we figured we would be there for a while. The bartender seemed nice enough, came up started looking for the supplies to make it, but couldn’t find any wine. I figured that it was a bad sign, since the sangria was advertised. He then told us hed be back since he didnt have wine to make the sangria. Came back a few minutes later with no wine in hand… suspicious, how are you going to make sangria without wine. He sets up a few feet away from us, even though there was no one else at the bar at the time just someone at the table. He then starts mixing together PUCKER, like 7 different types. I legit thought he was making a shot of some kind. the mixture comes out bright red, so he pulls out another dark blue PUCKER, and it ends up making a dark purple hue.
He then fills the entire pitcher with ice. and to my shock he puts the entire mixture of 7 PUCKERS in the pitcher, and keeps adding juice and some sort of clear liquid from the fountain gun. He then takes the bottom of a bottle of wine and adds it into this mixture of pucker and juice, throw some cherries on it and a few slices of orange and gives it to us. I text my friend and im like there was no rum, or vodka, a splash of wine and no sugar… this is not sangria this is PURPLE DRANK.
within the 1^st glass both of our stomachs were hurting. When you thought it could not get worse a few girls walk into the bar and the bartender turns the music way up. There are 6 people in the bar and i cant hear the person next to me because the music is so loud, and worse its some sort of super sexualized R&B, at 4 oclock in the afternoon. Ww power through the Purple Drank and decide not to go ahead and order another as stomach ulcers were a distinct possibility
We decide to leave i get an über friend pays for the purple drank. She tells me that the bartender asks her how much she wants to tip, that he can put it in directly she doesn’t have to write it down. WTF??? I guess he was trying to intimidate her into tipping him more.
Never again Tavern 222, do yourself a favor and stay farrrr away

Was is town for the week last week and i came across this bar on a nice day on south street the door was open i remember hearing late 90s r&b music it automatically drew me in i get in this small bar and it was quite busy for heing only 7pm the bartender quickly approach me and told me the specials it was $ 2 tuesday i told her make me what ever she made me a longisland n said it was called the waterice i tasted it and it did but all i needed was one and i was buzzed she was great it was so busy for one bartender but everytime she saw my drink empty she took care of me plus she was bartending and having everyone have fun she def fun and wild and she made every guest in there feel like family it was the best time i ever had in philly I was there from 7pm till closing so was everyone else so if you at tavern 222 please go see QUEEN she is awsome. !!!

BEWARE!!! BARTENDER LETS ANYONE ADD DRINKS TO YOUR TAB!!!
Went here on a Tuesday night ($ 2 drinks, can’t beat that) and everything went well until it came time to close out my tab. During the whole night I kept track of what I was ordering and knew exactly what my bill was going to come to. When the bartender hands me the receipt it says $ 30 instead of $ 18. I asked her politely why it is almost double and I told her exactly what I ordered. She then proceeded to tell me that «someone is my group put drinks on my tab.» First of all, when I would order a new drink she barely even remembered that I had a tab, and second, what kind of bartender just lets anyone add drinks to someone else’s tab when I never gave authorization for it.
I proceeded to tell her that none of my friends would put anything on my tab and she says «the kid in the red sweater.» I WAS NOT WITH ANYONE THAT HAD A RED SWEATER ON. So she then gave me some kids receipt and said «this was him.» His name was Nicholas; I do not even know a Nicholas in Philadelphia. Anyway, she told me that she could NOT refund me (which is a joke because the POS systems I have used before lets you give refunds), so I didn’t feel like putting up a fight and I just disputed the charge on my CC. Terrible bartender and its unfortunate that she had to tarnish the bars reputation like that.

Cool place, came here a few weeks ago. It gets pretty cramped which is annoying. My friends and I sat in the back at the tables. It was fun in that section. We were the only people dancing in the whole bar. The Dj/​bouncer guy was cool af! He played everyone’s requests and played poppin music all night. The only thing that turned me off about this bar was one of the bartenders. Me and one of my girlfriends were waiting at the bar for 25 minutes before we got service!!! Ok maybe I’m over exaggerating but we did wait a long time. For example, she would start from left to right getting everyone’s drinks. Then once it got to us, she kept skipping us! She would then restart taking orders from left to right or she would go to the people right after us. The messed up thing was, this bartender guy tried to take our order as soon as he got there! But of course by then she started the process of making our drinks. I grew more mad when I saw our drink glasses sitting there as she continued to take other orders. I was over it at this point. She seemed sweet when she finally gave us our drink. Maybe she just wanted a tip. I wasn’t going to be petty la belle and not tip her so I tipped her anyway. The drinks were a little too strong but I wasn’t complaining. We ordered 3 Malibu bay breezes and 3 shots of southern comfort. I think it came out to like $ 36 or something because I remember giving her $ 40 and told her to keep the change. I believe everything is $ 6 a piece which isn’t bad for south street. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate your 21^st bday I wouldn’t recommend it. However, if you’re just looking for a chill spot for you and some friends, this bar is cool.

This was one of many stops during our bar crawl. They had jack and anything for five dollars which is a pretty good deal and the bartender was very friendly and prompt. I give it four stars because everyone was watching the GOP debate and whoever was controlling the sound just cut it off and started blasting loud music out of nowhere which I thought was rather rude. Great place to grab a quick drink for a reasonable price. Overall a good experience but subtitles would have been cool.

Cheap, delicious and delightful staff. I could not be happier with the prices and the staff. Especially when the chef came out and informed us that our exquisite chili was just prepared by the owner himself. 2 $ happy hour wells– yeah we are stoked

If you like to have a terrible time, come to this place. Never in my life have I been yelled at by the bouncer for not buying a drink as soon as I walk in. This man had the audacity to walk over to my group of friends and yell, «IF YA’LL NOT BUYING A DRINK, THEN YA’LL NEED TO GET THE FUCK OUT!» I proceeded to respond, «Gladly, as soon as our friend closes his tab. You are making us completely uncomfortable.» He says back, «DON’T MAKE ME HAVE TO PUT MY HANDS ON YOU AND DRAG YOU OUT MYSELF.» Never again will come back. This place needs to be shut down. Tonight.

We arrived at Tavern 222 on a Saturday at 8pm. We had a party of 4 and sat at the bar to watch the game, eat some appetizers, and have some drinks.
The food was ok, didn’t come out hot but we didn’t make a big deal about it. When we asked the bartender for napkins she gave us 5. We ordered 20 wings, nachos, and mozzerela sticks. When we asked for more napkins she was obviously annoyed.
We ordered 2 pitchers, Margarita and Mojito. The Margarita tasted like juice and the Mojito tasted like seltzer. We explained that the Mojito tasted like Seltzer she became more annoyed. She just started throwing liquor into the pitcher. It was difficult to speak with her without having to deal with an attitude.
I gave 2 stars because the bar was aesthetically pleasing, there was lots of room, and a good size TV. Unfortunately, the bartender was not pleasant, the food was not hot, and the drinks were not good.

Good music and great bartenders. This is one of my go to spots in the city. Never disappoints.

Came here for the first time with my sister and coworker for my sisters birthday. They have been here before but it was my first time. we sat at the bar and I told the bartender that we loved sangria and he made us the most delicious sangria ever! I over heard him say he can make skittle flavored margaritas. he made me a watermelon skittle margarita and it was beyond amazing. He was awesome and super friendly.. Felt like we’ve known him for years.. Let him know what you like and he will make it for you… if you are in the area stop by and ask for delonne. He will not disappoint you. cant wait to go back!

Cool spot. If I’m on South Street, I usually close the night at Tavern 222. They always have decent drink specials & the bartenders are top notch. I haven’t eaten there yet, but I’ve seen people wolf down food like it was their last meal.

Came here with some friends on whim. We walked by and noticed the sign for $ 8.50 margarita pitchers. I didn’t expect a packed house at 3 in the afternoon, but there were a few people. Ordered out margaritas and hung out for a bit. My buddies got wings and a cheesesteak. Both were very impressive. The wing sauce was dynamite, not just straight heat, lots of flavor. The cheesesteak was banging too. Bartender was great and all in all a great experience for a guy’s Saturday on South.

I’ve been their favorite customer since 2012! I even have couple of my $ 2 bills on their wall. So I don’t have anything to say about this bar, so I will leave this on here:” BEST BAR, ON SOUTH STREET, PERIOD.”

My friend just moved to the area and we were looking for new places to eat. We stumbled upon Tavern 222 and decided to give it a shot. It was a Sunday evening, but to my surprise the place was literally empty. On top of that, there was a very unpleasant initial odor in the place, smelled kind of like cat litter. Not sure what it was, but I tried my best to ignore the smell and stay positive about the experience.
It’s your typical bar food, but it is not done well. My friend ordered a hamburger and absolutely hated it. Not sure how you can screw up a burger, but I definitley don’t want to find out! The food was just, eh. The waitor was very nice and was clearly trying his best to make the experience a good one, but this is not a place worth coming back to. Maybe it’s known for its nightlife? I wouldn’t come back here.

I was here on a Friday night and it definitely gets popping here. It was one of the livest spots in that section of South St. They also have different drink specials every day. I didn’t try any of the food since I already had a really good steak from Ishka, so I really just needed liquor and music.
They gave me the liquor I needed but I can’t take too much southern gold tooth rap. Pretty much every song was from some Birdman/​Rick Ross imitator. They didn’t even play any Luda, and the only northeast song I heard was some trash bin stuff from Jay-​Z & Beyonce. Maybe I wasn’t tipsy enough to not care but I like some diversity in my music.

Great Saturday night crowd that comes ready to party.
Only reason that they get 3 stars is the 2 bartenders are horribly slow… They probably would be better if they had 2 others back there. And there is no real room, Any more than 50 – 60 people in there is a cluster**** and it looks like they pack around 100 every Saturday.

2^nd and 4^th Fridays with DJ Biscuit + DJ Dre are a good time

We found this place by accident however I’m very glad we did. It was Monday and they had $ 5 margaritas, we tried about 4 different ones and they were all delicious and a very big size especially for the price. We also tried the wings and supreme nachos with chili and both were pretty good.
Dee was our waiter/​bartender he was very sweet and took his time making the drinks (you could tell he puts a lot of love into his creations)
