I used to take their summer art classes at the Taylor School of Art. I don’t know if they still call it the Taylor School of Art. When I took their classes back in the day, I would say that the student from the art department are on the eccentric side.

It is about equal in size to it old location(now Brave New Worlds). And Temple manages to bring in the same twisted art forms that I remember from it’s previous form. The Old Temple Gallery was always known for bringing in odd forms of multimedia art, sculptures, architecture, and than some. It rarely steered towards the traditional arts and always gave it students the chance to incorporate strange mediums. When I finally encountered the newer Gallery I wasn’t expecting them to maintain that odd dedication. But in a lot of ways It was weirder. While overall I do admire my Alma Mater doing this, and I have encountered some perfectly random and entertaining displays, a lot of times they just manage to fall flat on their randomness. When I walked in I was ready to visualize some art and read into it’s imagery. But instead they expected me to read a whole bunch of books. Don’t get me wrong — since I normally go through an average of 2 books a month I’m normally very up to such a task. But I and many others spent the day looking at many different paintings, photos, and musical performances. So by the time I hit the gallery I was so immersed with another part of my brain that the display just wasn’t stimulating. And the Temple Gallery has been like that on more than one occasion. A solid A for effort though. And since I finally rediscovered a part of my Alma Mater again I’m happy to put up with it’s imperfections anyway.
