The Home Depot

I do not understand, I had a great experience there. I was constructing an intricate coffee table, and every associate along the way went out of their approach to help me. It was as when they were taking a personal interest in what I was doing. Actually, among the men who helped me cut the wood even requested me to bring in pictures once I was done.

This place is a disaster. They can’t get anything right. They screw up online orders, they screw up in person orders, salesmen don’t show up. Right now I’ve been on hold for a half an hour — AFTER calling back several times because they keep disconnecting me. They force you to listen to ghastly hold music blaring at me while the recording keeps breaking in to tell me how important my phone call is — for the 20^th time! I will be shopping at Lowes from now on. I am sick and tired of the lousy and incompetent service at this store.

I’m pretty handy and rarely need a lot of support from home repair shops. But this weekend I went to the Home Depot nursery for shrubs that are non-​toxic to pets. After being shuffled around for an hour, someone claiming to have a degree in horticulture recommended Heavenly Bamboo. So I buy it, plant it then in the PM google the bamboo just to be sure. And!!! It’s the 4^th toxic plant toy can buy for pets. So now the shrubs are on their way to the trash, and I’m on my way to a small nursery in Northern Libs to buy some safe shrubbery.
It’s spring/​summer and people are going to be looking for guidance on what they can put in their yards that will be safe for pets. If you don’t know the answer, just say so… Don’t claim a degree in horticulture and be dishonest. I’m a busy person and don’t like the idea of having to do double work — not to mention putting my animals at risk, because Home Depot is littered with incompetent people. Ridiculous.

Spent a long time on hold trying to get a large delivery and the delivery took three tries because the first driver was afraid to get a ticket and the second driver didn’t think he could fit on my street but otherwise good.

Service here is absolute sh! t!!!
Employees are lazy and incompetent. More focused on socializing than helping customers. Stood by panel for 15 minutes after help was requested twice over intercom and no one showed up. Not one employee was in the building materials department. Don’t waste your time or money here. Go to lowes down the street.

Has everything a typical hd has but what’s up with the staff standing around in groups with phones? In the hardware area, near lighting, in the outdoor area, IN THE CHECKOUT LINES! Service isn’t very helpful and 20 minutes in there and you’ll know who is about to go on break and when.

My wife and I went in here to get a basic carpet installation… we gave about 3 weeks notice and were guaranteed it’d be done on time. I’m now one day away from when it was supposed to be installed and the carpet hasn’t even reached the installer yet.
They have a few nice people in their flooring department who want to help, but their system is so completely f’d up that they can’t do anything. Just to give an idea of what we dealt with:
— First person told us to pick any carpet to have installed, they’d be able to supply within 7 days. We come to find out that is only true of select carpets, adding another trip to the store to find a replacement.
— They arranged our measurement service, which didn’t show up or call the first day. I called in to ask where they were and was told it was a medical emergency. Stuff happens, I get it, but call. They arranged it for the next day (yay two days off for this!). THAT person had the decency to confirm they were coming before they cancelled AGAIN. The store was apologetic, but I had to push to get them to send someone that day. They showed at 6 (instead the 4pm quoted). I was guaranteed the quote by the end of the day so we could order the carpet and arrange installation.
— Cut to the next day, no call, no quote, nothing. I call them and am gifted with a 2 hour conversation about how what I’m trying to do (have the carpet installed at the originally quoted date) is impossible because I’m too close to the date. Mind you, the original measurement date gave enough time. The second date could’ve worked if they sent the quote in when promised. Now I’m SOL. They can’t answer my questions over the phone so my wife and I drive into the store to deal with it in person.
— We figure out a plan (they’re to call Monday morning and get orders and delivery arraigned to try to meet our original time) and we pay for the carpet. They’re nice enough to comp us the fees associated with moving furniture if it goes past our move in date.
— Cut to Monday. No call from them. I call several times and can’t get through. Finally get a hold of someone who tells me that its impossible to get installed when I was told, that the carpet can’t get sent until that night and won’t get in til Wednesday at the earliest. I’m told to call the next day to confirm it arrived.
— Next day rolls around, call, can’t get through. I give up.
— Today I call, can’t get through. 5 calls later and I get to someone in flooring who directs me to the installer. They tell me the carpet won’t be in for a week and a half a full week past the originally quoted date. The people at the installer are actually really helpful, but they can’t get through to the store either, so we’re SOL again.
I’m never going back here again.

Just an update: Called these guys to ask about availability on some plywood, and waited on hold for 34 minutes before finally giving up. I really just wanted to know if they had quarter-​inch ply in stock. Anyone could have told me that. Stop being like this, South Philly Home Depot!

Hahaha, this Home Depot in South Philly is awful. I would venture to say this location is your run of the mill Home Depot, but the (lack of) customer service here is laughable. When you consider how stressful each trip there can become, you start to wonder how safe it actually is to supply all those sharp tools and heavy machines. Aside from the lovely (?) waterfront views, I think an accidental cut from a table saw or a misplaced swing of a hammer to the thumb would be less painful than a shopping trip there.
Throughout my numerous trips there, I don’t believe I ever received a «hello,» a «how are you?» or a «thank you for shopping here» from anyone. I’ve also spent far too much time trying to find something. The lost puppy and confused head scratch approaches were unsuccessful, and all attempts to ask employees for help were met with confused and annoyed looks and responses. Looking back though, I can’t believe I actually had the audacity to ask 2 employees on their cell phones where the weather stripping materials were located.
Soooo, to reiterate, their customer service is the worst customer service in the history of customer service. My advice: duct tape. If something is broken, duct tape. Drafty window? Duct tape. Any reason to avoid this Home Depot is the best reason to avoide this Home Depot.

Terrible customer service. Asked three different times for assistance and all three times a person called over the loudspeaker yet no one came to help. After waiting 30 minutes we left and went to Lowes. Great way to treat your customers.

Ughhhh. That’s literally the sound that popped in my head when I was scrolling through my check-​ins looking for a review to write and I came across Home Depot.
I recently bought a house and needed to expand my tool box. First things first I needed a power drill. WE’ve always had a great experience at Loews across the way but we received a HD gift card so we figured we’d check it out. Walking in the first thing you’ll notice is that only 2 people work there, one on the floor and one on the register. So I approached the floor guy who was making keys and he told me to wait in line. After 3 or 4 people got their keys made it was my turn to speak to the great and mysterious OZ. I said hi sir I was wondering if you could help me pick out a drill. He responds «what kind of drill do want». I’m like well… that’s why I’m asking you for help. He says to me I don’t know what kind of drill you want.
I began laughing because when service goes this bad that’s all you can really do. I said alright if that’s how you wanna play it just tell me what power to get for typical around the house projects. He gave us a voltage but we decided to go one up because the key master had not proven himself trustworthy.
If I would have written this review the day of the check-​in it would have been a 1 star but no that emotions have subsided I can add one for the selection and it seemed to be priced decently.

Ultimately a better section in flooring and ceiling tile than Lowe’s. But the real reason for the review was Mike Quinn. Walked us through the entire process and was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and patient. Thank you Mike!

Nice Home Depot. Right Next to Walmart which is nice kill two birds with one stone. Wife when to Walmart when I ran to Home Depot. The customer service was super nice. The door greeter told us right where the stuff we were looking for. Nice in and out.

Worst.Home.Depot. Just terrible service. Otherwise the store is pretty much like all of them. Nice that there’s a Rocco’s out front. But the total lack of customer service — and poor service where it exists — makes shopping here a real drag, especially if you need paint or wood cut, etc. Came here on a Monday evening and it took them 30 minutes to mix 5 paint samples with no other customers. No eye contact, no smiles, the woman helping me didn’t even finish the job and a kid had to pick up and finish for her!

Really only giving 5 stars because the way Boyfriend’s face lights up reminds me of how I feel when I walk into Sephora.
Also because this Home Depot has become our home-​away-​from-​home and has saved us on every occasion we have had to change a pendant light or ceiling fan and realized there was no junction box in the ceiling.
People who work here are generally helpful, but it seems when you need help the most there is no one to be found. On the other hand, you come here enough times and you get to know where everything is in the store and no longer need the help.

This HD is the model image of lackluster service of home improvement store. Compare to other HD, this one is not the best. Customer Service is minimal and utter disappointment. The stock selection is not diverse and I would avoid this HD at all cost if not for the convenience and my immediate home improvement need.
Tip: The will-​call/​special order pick-​up service is a total disappointment even if you called in advance.

The place is okay and is convenience for me at times to go. And I especially like Rocco’s right in front, love their sandwiches. I hardly shop at Home Depot unless it is for something major. But even then I’m going with family. This particular location is okay.

If I could give 0 stars I would.
My partner and I were looking for a washer and wound up purchasing 24in. LG Top Loader, which we love.
Frank seemed very helpful at first and eager to make a sale. He answered all of our questions including whether haul away was included. «Absolutely.» He said.
Great — we went with Home Depot BECAUSE of this instead of going with a local guy.
Now, let me backtrack: the reason we were buying a 24in. washer was because we have a tight winding staircase, which we explained to Frank. «Are you sure you want one that small?» He asked. We told him Yes and that our currently washer can be disassembled. We made it VERY clear we have little clearance and the reason we are going with the Home Depot is that they have haul away.
Well, let’s fast forward to a week later. New washer arrives, but they don’t take away the old one. Why? Because they don’t disassemble washers. It’s not in their contract? What the hell? This is Philadelphia. EVERY OTHER HOUSE IS A TRINITY. Of course this thing has to get taken apart to go up the stairs.
Then, they tell us it happens all the time. So, this is an issue that happens all the time with delivery, yet the Home Depot has not done ANYTHING about it.
The delivery guy also adds that he can definitely take it apart on his own time for $ 50 and take it away. He just isn’t allowed to do it right now.
So, I call the Depot, I get transferred over to about 4 people before I speak to a manager. She said that she will look into it and call me by the end of the day last Saturday. She NEVER called. We call them again — they ignore us over and over. Then, we call last night only to be told «tough luck» and that Frank should have told us and it’s not their fault that the old washer was never taken away.
Do yourselves a favor, everyone, and don’t shop for appliances here. Go to your local guys, at least they’re honest.

I’d like to talk about all the reasons that I love Home Depot. Many people like to balk and complain about this store but I think everyone is really just missing the benefits.
1. Exercise
Whether or not you realize it, you are staving off obesity by going to this store. When you ask the staff for help, the chances of them actually knowing where something is and directing you appropriately is slim to none. You end up asking at least 3 different people and receiving 3 different answers which forces you to take a few laps around this store. This is a large store so I’m guessing that really ups the distance your pedometer will calculate. Just think of all the free exercise you are getting. Don’t underestimate the value!
2. Problem Solving
Another lovely thing that you get to do is try to figure out where things are in this store. Would this be hardware or outdoor? Might this be a seasonal item? All of these things will be circling in your head as you circle the store. You’re trying to decipher the motivation of the person who did the stacking of the products. It really helps your detective skills.
3. Patience
Either you will find your item new and intact, (not likely) find it partially used and returned (more likely) or not find it at all (most likely). This can be very frustrating for some people but you have the chance to take a deep breath and say «it’s ok, I really didn’t need that item. The universe didn’t want me to have it.» You breathe a sigh of relief and walk out of the store, now at peace with your mind.
With all of these benefits why on earth would you go to other large box stores located just south on Columbus Blvd or order online? These two places will get you your products for the same price or less and not push or challenge you in anyway. It seems like their moto is customer service rather than customer abuse. Personally, I don’t see the draw in these places and I’ll be sticking with the pain and suffering. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
