The owner is absolutely awesome, not to mention the food. Fantastic service, flavors, plenty of seating. Really great place

Cozy and pleasant atmosphere, committed and energetic staff and owner. I hope this place makes it! Food and coffee were fresh and delicious(coffee in particular). I had the chocolate chip waffle and scrambled eggs and was very satisfied– inexpensive and fresh! There are some organizational/structural issues that need to be worked out. Sign that says ‘order here’ would be nice and a revamp of the menu; concept is that you order anything you want– everything’s A la carte, but that unfortunately does not come across on the menu. Did I mention that the coffee is amazing and the atmosphere nice and cozy? It looks like Octavia makes a mean cappuccino as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice place, great DIY type of menu(if you want it it’s probably doable) and fair prices. The food was delicious and I believe locally sourced. I would have like a little hot sauce(only found ketchup) with my omelet but maybe that’s me being a little to southern. I got there at a busy time for them, I think, which resulted in a slower than expected wait BUT the owner made it a point to stop by and ask about that and the food. Real nice guy. It’s a new place so I expect things to get even better. I expect I’ll be back.

Under new ownership. A wonderful place for breakfast/brunch. I had the apple French toast, it was the best, tastiest I have ever had with maple syrup and home made raspberry jam. Dining companion had an omelette she loved and felt the restaurant would be able to accommodate her vegan partner if she went there with him. Management was very warm and friendly extremely open to feedback. Happy to say it was positive.

The Living Room just re-opened under new owners. I had not visited previous to that but can give a good up to date review of the place now. First off they quite an impressive menu with coffee/espresso drinks, tea, and BYO omelets, salads, grilled cheese sandwiches etc. I love the fact that everything is able to be customized to your liking. Nothing worse than pre-made items in places where they don’t allow adjustments. I tried a BYO salad and it was amazing– fresh ingredients(all locally sourced) and the most delicious dressing made of Blood Orange EVOO and reduced balsamic. I literally took one bite of this salad and looked up at my friend and said«this is my new go-to lunch spot». I also tried a peppermint loose leaf tea and it was the perfect ending to my meal. I can’t wait to re-visit this spot for brunch and bring some out of town friends with me.

I went here for Breakfast for the first time. I would say overall its good. I’ve been to several breakfast places around Philly that’s better, but this is a good place as it’s quiet, you can relax and take your time. The food is good depending on which dishes. Although the eggs Benedict was excellent, the other dishes like the bahn mi are so so.

I used to come here for muffins and tea, shakes, and wraps when it was Cups and Chairs. They have taken the same baking skills and carried them over to The Living Room. I hardly ever make it in because they close at 4 on weekdays and 3 on weekends but I wish I could come in more. All the baked goods are done there, including the best muffins that have just this super moist texture with just enough crispness on the outside and their own croissants! They really seem like they try not to cut any corners and the prices are really very good on most things. I can’t get myself to spend $ 12 on congee yet but I’m really curious. I hope they succeed! The lumpia are also expensive but I don’t know anywhere else that even offers them! The service is not always the friendliest you’ve ever had but it’s not unfriendly either. The quality of food is definitely worth it. Update: I’m a French toast snob because most people don’t soak it enough to have a moist inside but the ab&c French toast passed the test. See picture. Also you can tell the whipped cream served with it is homemade — it’s thicker and richer and more flavorful. I think I could come back every day and try something new that appeals to me on this menu. I’ll aim for a more reasonable once a week.

The Living Room is a newish spot for coffee, quick bites, solid background music, wifi, and a nice environment to get some work done. I swung by with some time to kill for a cup of coffee and to get a few emails out. The woman working the counter was super friendly and came around to refill cups since there were only a couple of us in at the time. I enjoyed my coffee and will have to swing back next time I’m in the neighborhood to try the food.

I can’t figure out if this location is run by the same people that owned cups and chairs previously. Anyhow. I love the setup of the space it’s very cute and cozy with plenty of seating. The menu is pretty original and fantastic and the prices are reasonable. I stopped in and studied for a few hours in the perfect atmosphere and had an awesome experience. I’ve paid way more at terrible coffee shops with microwaved food and this was a way better experience. I ordered the breakfast roll with sausage which wasn’t what I was expecting but it was great! It was pretty much two giant egg rolls filled with sausage egg and cheese and they were perfect. I also had the ginger honey black tea which was freshly steaped to perfection. They also have an early bird special from 8−10am during the weekday! I wish this place was actually open earlier so that I could grab a bite on my way to work. Another thing I noticed is that this place is popular for ordering out because a lot of people were stopping by and grabbing their go bags. I’ll be back!

Great place for BYO brunch. Just bring a bottle of bubbly and order some fresh squeezed OJ! We ordered the tuna melt and breakfast bahn mi, and both were delicious. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great prices for great food! And BYO!

Bad experience from the second I opened the door. It was around 11am on a Tuesday and the café was completely empty. The staff stood at the counter and watched me struggle to hold the door and push my 3 month old in a stroller inside with my 5 year old in tow. I found a small table in a corner, tucked the stroller between the wall and the table so it was out of the way incase anyone else came in and took a seat. We ordered a smoothie and a coffee. A few minutes later a young woman came over and told me that unless we were eating we could not sit at the table. Another woman told me that we could sit at their counter. I felt having a 5 year old climb onto a barstool and blocking the register and walkway with a stroller was a bad idea. We promptly left and I apologized for taking up space in their very busy restaurant. The mango smoothie ordered, was fine. Their coffee just mediocre. I live and work in the neighborhood and have told many friends about this experience. Generally I see the staff waiting for customers as they stand outside smoking. We will not be returning and are patiently waiting for Plenty to open across the street.

Ate here Friday morning and absolutely loved it! The place is very simple and comfortable. I wasn’t sure of what I wanted but the server convinced me to get the«Do it yourself homefries» and I’m glad that I did because it was phenomenal. I love the choice of toppings for the homefries and I love how large the portion is. The only suggestion that I have is that they add a wider variety of juice drinks such as apple and cranberry to the menu, but nonetheless I loved it and I will return!!! Food 5 stars Service 5 stars atmosphere 5 stars

I ordered chicken and waffles and the owner said the fryer was broken. To make up for it, he delivered the waffles to my house and apologized profusely. Also the chicken and waffles were delicious :)

The Living Room is a quaint neighborhood speciality tea and coffee shop. They have a lovely selection of teas, coffee, bubble teas, smoothies and other speciality drinks. I come at least once a week and try something new. Food wise, they have bagels, pastries, cakes, brownies, snack bars, and some sandwiches. Its a great place to hang out, have a group meeting, study, or work from. They have free Wifi with a pretty good connection! Good for children, too. They’ve got a selection of books and board games for use. Friendly staff!
