I am a huge fan of this flea market. For $ 3 you can enter a big warehouse an wend your way through a hipster-con of more prints & doodads than you’ll ever need, relic toys from the 80s &90s, plenty of vinyl, booze containers turned art, absurd baby clothes that will fit for a hot second sporting obscure references predating parental purchasers, and more terrarium pieces than necessary. In December this is the place to find your ugly sweater for the holiday party. There are food trucks outside offering goodies for the stomach. And even if you’re wallet is feeling shy there is plenty of people-watching to be done and hipster bingo to be played. It of course can get hot in the summer but surprisingly not bone-shatteringly cold for the winter market. Located across from Starlight Ballroom, it’s easy to get to from Jersey and finding parking isn’t crazy.

Very cool and fun with lots of unique stuff to buy from vintage clothes, to impossible to find records, to dirty dinner plates(not for mom’s china cabinet, if you know what I mean!). I do think that in a couple years it’ll need to be re-named the Hipster Flea Market though… lol.

Since I realized after Saturdays successful Punk Rock Flea Market that my previous review and recaps( ) weere of the much smaller scale days of the market that happened in the Starlight Ballroom(and Electric Factory), I figured that I may as well jump on and cover its most recent and larger home. Especially since they’re gearing up to have record breaking attendance during the 2 day event. The warehouse that now plays home to the market is right across from where it used o be at Starlight Ballroom and is freaking HUGE. in the past I have seen it house classic cars and other such curiosities to the side, but now it appears to host roller derby events on the side. This space gives the market the ample space that it really needed during previous years(it used to feel hot and sweaty in December!), and also makes it so that vendors can display their treasures more prevalently, and even gives the Starlight room to host an additional record sale event. And the treasures that you find are still as wacky and abundant as ever, and the event still goes towards the good cause of helping R5 Productions( ) bring kick ass shows to Philly more frequently at cheaper prices than Ticket Bastard. When I finished splurging on yet another 10 Show Pass, I still managed to score the entire series of Cowboy Bebop for $ 3, 2 Ralph Steadman drawn Hunter S Thompson Gonzo books for $ 6, a brand new ring, and a whole lot more. So if you love thrifting for cool and random treasures and supporting awesome live music, you best make it to today’s portion of the market while you still can!

This is possibly the best venue for the flea market yet. It’s across the street from where it’s usually held, at the Starlight Ballroom(which is kept open for bathrooms and bar), but it’s a lot bigger inside. They set the tables up this time in a way that didn’t make you want to punch slow moving people in the back of the head. Hopefully they’ll keep it here for a while.
