Thomas Jefferson University Hospital

Was there for 5 days at the beginning of December. Had nothing but great care. Was transported from lower bucks hospital since they do not do Biel duct repairs.

Horrible hospital doctors do not care at all about patients. We drove 3 hours for my appointment on our way there, there was soo much traffic I called an hr before my appt time to let them know we may be late. The doctors secretary told me if I did not make there by 11:15 the doctor would not see me, so we tried our best since we were half way there & I have waited 2 months for this appt! I got to the office at 11:18 and they REFUSED TO SEE ME. Stating that the doctor has already left the building, I was so UPSET I tried to make an appt for later that day but she could not make anytime for me. THEY KNEW DAMN WELL WE DROVE FROM FAR AWAY. AND HOW IS SHE JUST GOING TO UP AND LEAVE DURING MY SO CALLED APPT TIME ! She did not even have the decency to make a personal call to me an apologize or even make an attempt to see me for any amount of time. SCREW THIS PLACE I AM NEVER SETTING FOOT IN HERE AGAIN.

Let’s be honest all hospitals have problems and the people who review based on the ER are always going to be negative because in reality all of the emergency rooms are a nightmare. I have only been in this ER once and honestly it was one of the best.
I have however been under the care of the urological department for over three years and at HUP before that. I can tell you that if you want to know the difference it is the difference between night and day Jeforson is day. Since at this hospital I’ve been treated like a human being and I can not remember someone ever being impolite or rushing us. I have gotten my quality of life back and have been apart of the treatment plan every step of the way. I couldn’t have ever hoped that I would be in such great care when I left HUP because they almost killed me. I’m so happy to be on way to getting my life back.

Thank you also to the surgery department and the recovery team is amazingly talented people who are just so friendly and caring I had no idea that there was even a person in that position that didn’t just hate the world after my HUP experience and yet the whole staff at Jeforson is amazing.

This hospital is amazingly poor. Brought my mother here to the ER, on a Tuesday, with a heart attack. EKG abnormal, blood pressure through the roof… so the next step? SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR OVER 6+ hours!
The nurses couldn’t have cared less. How do you come in with a heart attack and get told to sit. Were they hoping she was going to have another? STAY AWAY. Go to Methodist instead, or Penn.

Nobody ever wants to go to the hospital. On a list of things to do for the day, you will never see ‘go to the emergency room and get admitted’ on the list. Unless you’re some sort of sadomasochist who likes that kinda thing… I hope you’re not. A couple of weeks ago I unfortunately had to be admitted into Thomas Jefferson University hospitals emergency room because of seizures. They ended up admitting me for observation overnight. Now I was pretty out of it by the time that I was being moved from the ER to my room for the night, but I’m remember how quickly it was between me signing the papers to me being moved. It wasn’t even 45 minutes. The staff was super nice, even though they had to come and check on me every hour to check on my vitals. Like most hospital food, was edible at best. All the rooms are private, so you don’t have to share a room with some crazy weirdo and talk to themselves. So that’s good lol. I was promised that my doctor would come and see me first thing in the morning, and I was not disappointed. first thing in the morning he was in there along with his team of other doctors. Even though I had already known everything there was to know about seizures because I do have epilepsy and it was not my first one everybody made sure I was completely competent about what happened and made sure that if I have any questions that they were all answered. I’ve been going to Jefferson neurology for the past 5 years and I’ve never had a problem with them. They were able to identify the reason I had seizures, and isolate which medication had to be raised. All I have to do now is lower my stress level which is easier said than done. But they helped me with the hardest part. Five stars to Jefferson Hospital for being amazing hospital all around

Don’t do it. Go to upenn. They seem to be in a hurry, just not what I look for in a hospital.

First things first-​! The Jeff ER – is a DISGRACE-!
Went in with an irregular heartbeat-​! The attending «Dr».if you can call him. THAT – refused to put me on a monitor — he said I was there a week earlier – & «only showed a few PVCs”-!
WHAT??? Because I was there a week before… means things can not get worse?
This hospital USED to be good – trust me, it has gone «downhill» rapidly–
Just saying what I experienced ! Jeff «gets by» on its reputation – it is a «Sinking ship”-!!

… Can’t rate quality of care for this ER yet but can tell u we checked in a 6 pm and its 1:24 am and HAVE NOT been seen by neurologist consult… Triage and attending was prompt, professional — but waiting 6 hours + is unacceptable service level for a institution of this reputation. Very disappointed.!!

Jefferson Hospital, you need to get with the 21^st century. While I commend the hospital staff for being top notch, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this hospital if you are expecting a baby. There are a lot of hospital visits and this hospital is not efficient.
–why do I need to go through the SAME song and dance with check-​in for every appointment, wasting 30 – 45 mins every time? You have my insurance card/​info. Let me just go straight to the doctor/​nurse. Let’s streamline the process so I see less of the administrative staff!
–parking is painful here. It’s congested with limited meter/​expensive garage parking. Know that when you make appts. at a city hospital.
–speaking of city hospitals, how about cleaning/​sanitizing the hospital once in a while? I don’t want to guess what that mysterious red stain on the water cooler might be. A hospital should be spotless, wouldn’t you agree?
Sure, the hospital needs a little love (i.e. renovation), streamlined services, but the staff is knowledgeable and caring. Instead of acquiring and expanding their hospital network, they really should work improving the existing infrastructure.

This place is a joke. I had to explain to a doctor that if you stand behind a wall and call someone’s name they won’t hear you. Wonder who pints out anatomy?

So here’s my rationale for 1 star (I’d give negative stars if it were possible)…
In my opinion, they made a pretty blatant and clear billing error ($ 200). Not an astronomical amount, but when you feel you’re being ‘wronged’, the amount is irrelevant.
I tried to handle it professionally — I questioned my bill, explained I would not pay it until we could discuss why I was being charged the amount, and asked to speak with a supervisor to discuss… instead they had low level bill collectors call my cell phone several times a day for 3 weeks, and each time I asked for a supervisor they refused me any communication with supervisor /​management level personnel.
In the end, I got tired of it and paid my bill and told the woman I’d NEVER be back there.
All the best to the medical staff here, as once again, they were excellent.

Private room with a shower, phenomenal staff, passable chow, great wifi, all the cable channels so I didn’t miss the Mad Men finale.
1 star deduction for the wavy-​haired hematologist who came in late the second night, pronounced «We’ve figured it out» and embarked on a lengthy explanation of a very nasty blood disease when in reality they still had no clue as to the cause of my symptoms but had eliminated the possibility of TTP. Thanks for scaring the shit out of me, Dr. Jackass

My sister had a baby here last week, and boy was it swell! The staff there was warm and helpful. The doctors were great. The baby was adorable. While this was not due to the hospital at all, I still believe they deserve some credit.
If you’re thinking about having a baby in the philadelphia area I strongly recommend Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Pretty alright hospital. My only experience with them them is an ex hurting his leg. I don’t remember waiting around particularly very long, but, I felt like we were sitting in the exam room a lot just watching TV. Other than that, good bedside manner and professional.

I have used Jefferson emergency room before and it was ok. This time I had to get an MRI done and the experience has been absolutely awful:
1. They called me 1 hour in advance and told me to hurry up and get to the hospital because they had an opening and were trying to move me up — what happened to sticking with the schedule?!
2. I arrived early based on the call, but my appointment took place 1 hour later (hour later then the originally scheduled one ugh)
3. Front desk girl kept on chatting on the phone (personal call) and would not answer any of my questions.
Overall I do not recommend this place. There are plenty of places to get MRI done so choose them over this one!

There is no security at this hospital. I walked in the door, up the elevator and right into the Surgical Recovery Room.
No signing in, no pass, no one challenged me.
That was yesterday.
Today, same thing. Walked in off the street and into the Surgical ICU.
Scary.

Jefferson Hospital is a prime example of how a hospital should be. Everyone here from the dietary staff to the doctors truly care about your well being. After a scary experience with my back I was brought here and everyone working here was wonderful. My pain was managed and therefore I was much more relaxed and not so scared. Two thumbs way up for the docs, nurses, and everyone at Jeff!

Can’t speak for the services as I took my friend to the ER here and was not retreated. Emergency room check in is curt and unfriendly. Actually everyone from the frog desk to the security guard had a pretty uncaring and unfriendly vibe.
Waiting room is dingy and unclean. Even when there were no patients besides my friend, we waited 45 min before being called.
The nurse was nice but she was always in a rush. Understandable as we were in the ER. The resident was awkward and poor at explaining things.
Doctor was nice.
At one point they forgot about us. I guess the resident forgot to tell the nurse we got our discharge papers.
We were there for 4.5 hours total because my friend fainted. Not the best time… not the worst…

Hospitals are never fun places to be. Even when just visiting a sense of dread overcomes us.
Yet, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, and all its component parts, makes the experience as positive as possible for most of us. From the valet service drivers through the Chief of Medicine everyone approaches people with humanity and an understanding of what is involved in going there.
I have been using TJUH for a long time for myself, my family, and friends. I recommend it to everyone seeking world class medicine with a friendly face. From Rothman, The Heart Institute, Cancer Center, and ER, the treatment is state of the art and first class.
Unfortunately, I have seen my share of medical centers in New York, and for my health and for those I love, Jefferson is where I find the best combination of care and caring.
Before you decide on anything serious it is wise to at least obtain a consultation with a Jeff doc. You will be glad you did.

Jeff is about as good as you can find in Philly (far better than Hahnemann! Kinder than HUP).
My father went here for an outpatient procedure and it was handled well.
Administratively (as with most large hospitals) it’s kind of a nightmare.
Allow ample time — your 8 AM (or 9 AM) appointment — when you show up at 7:30 AM may not start until past 10 AM!!!
