Happy to find a cool dive bar in Chestnut Hill. Places like this are hard to come by these days especially because most establishments want to cater to the«high end drinker. Don’t get me wrong, I like the gastropubs, along with great drinks that cost $ 15 or more. Sometimes you just want a shot of whiskey and a beer that costs less than $ 5 to take the edge off a hard day. The local patrons are a diverse bunch and the place smells of cigarettes. The bartender was friendly enough and we talked sports and local politics — exactly what you want in your dive bartender. Pros: Cheap & Clean Cons: Cigarette smoke

Boohoo for the low reviews from people who don’t understand dive bars. And oh, what a dive it is! I kind of can’t believe it’s in Chestnut Hill. It feels like you could be walking into Oscar’s in center city, so if that’s your type of place, welcome home. Cheap beer, friendly clientele, darts, pool, naked photo hunt(although not official naked photo hunt so it has a different name and worse photos — excellent), cash only, and a bartender who seems really disinterested in serving you. So happy this place is in my neighborhood!

After work crowd, not just blue-collar, it’s a good mix. Clean and friendly.

If you’re a smoker and a local and Yuengling drafts get you excited, you’re in luck here. For me, that’s an 0 for 3. There is one pool table, so that accounts for 100% of the one star in this review. Peace out, Toweys.

Went here on a Sunday to grab a quick drink before a dinner reservation. The bar was extremely clean and well lit. The clientele was a nice mix of young people, ex-hippy dad types, and old men. Divey neighborhood feel and cheap beer.

Towey’s is great. It’s filled with locals and smoke. Drinks are cheap and the service is what you expect. Bartenders Casey and John are both great guys. Other reviewers need to remember it’s a dive bar! That’s what it’s supposed to be. You can just throw on a pair of jeans and a tshirt and grab a drink, not like many other bars in town. Nice just to relax and have a drink.

Towey’s is such a classy establishment. By classy, I mean they only take cash, the no smoking ban is ignored, and they only have Yuengling(which is fine by me) and two other beers on tap. If you want food after 8pm, you’ll have to walk across the street to McDonald’s or stop at Wawa on your way home. Once there was a sign in the ladies room informing me that it was under surveillance for security reasons. Yeah. It’s always an experience at Towey’s.

This place is a great bar. Especially if you want to get shot. It is one of the only places in Chestnut Hill that really make you feel like you will probably get shot while you are there. It’s lousy, disgusting, depressing, and full of drug addicts. A cesspool.

Towey’s Tavern is a gem in Chestnut Hill. There are one or two other dive bars on the hill, but this one takes the cake as the divey-est. The place reeks of cigarettes(people still smoke here, despite the ban). The general appearance is a little unkempt, and the décor probably hasn’t changed since the 70s. This is probably the cheapest place to get a beer in Chestnut Hill. The crowd here is good too, the people usually are nice to talk to. Everyone’s friendly. They apparently serve food, but rarely ever. I think they only serve it in the afternoon. The beer selection is decent(by the bottle, nothing good on tap). I just really like the laid back and blue collar feel in ritzy Chestnut Hill. This is a little escape from all the pretty stuff on the hill, sometimes much needed.
