It had been a while and I definitely forgot how delicious Ugly Moose is. We had a great dinner here and got to sit outside. Both UM and Dekes were packed and there’s clearly a reason. We started with the wings which were cooked perfectly and very meaty. If you can’t decide between sauces get the wings dry with different dipping options on the side. My bf got the filet sandwich which was so so so good! It was overly packed with tender meat and the onion rings were crispy and tasty. I got the crab cake and it was out of this world. It was so flavorful and had a golden crust. The old bay fries went great with it! Can’t wait to return!

Great burgers and wings! This place is a neighborhood favorite. The atmosphere is very laid back and the service is very friendly. We have been to this place several times and keep coming back. The menu has something for everyone and we have tried at least ¾ of it. We always start off with wings — they have the perfect amount of crunch, sauce, and spice. The Ayrback burger and Adirondack filet sandwich are amazing! They also have quizzo every Wednesday, which is sure to be a good time! Worth a try if you’re in the area.

My husband and I met some friends here the first time we visited the Ugly Moose. We did not eat but the beer selection was great and the price was right. A few weeks ago we went back and had some food. I think everything was prepared well and they even made accommodations for me(without complaints or mistakes). As we were leaving, the owner came up and asked us how our experience was. I thought it was nice that he was there checking up on the place. Even though it is casual dining, you can tell they are trying. We will definitely be going back.

Went here for the first time last night and wish I had a better experience. The food was excellent, I just wish the service to go along with it would have been better. Our server was a tall bald man and while he was nice the service was terrible. First we asked if there were any specials and he said no, even though there was a board inside that listed a $ 3 beer and $ 3 rum drink. Then, my boyfriend ordered wings and he said«well there’s a special where if you order a pitcher you get 10 free wings.»…Well, why didn’t you tell us about the special when we asked? Then, after all of the food came out, he did not come to check on us. We both had empty glasses and were waiting for him to come out to us(we sat in the outdoor seating) Finally he came out and brought someone else their food, but didn’t even look our way! Next time he came out(we were done our entrees at this point) I flagged him down for a refill, and for the check. He dropped the check, then 20 minutes went by before we saw him again. He didn’t step into the outside area. Finally, another employee came out to clean a table, and I told her we had been waiting 20 minutes for him to charge our card and asked her to please get our waiter for us. She looked at me, then at the check, took it along with my credit card, and walked away without saying a word. I was appalled. 10 minutes later our waiter came out and dropped our charged card and receipt at the table said«thanks» and walked away. I really wish we would have had a better experience so we were inclined to come back, because the food and atmosphere are really nice! I think I’ll give it another shot, maybe another waiter will be better, but this is not an impression to give your customers!

This is a cool little place. Not much parking here, but they do free valet, so it was no problem. The inside is nice. I like the décor and the feel of the inside. That was about where the excitement stopped. The staff seemed to care very little that we were there. We had to continually ask for our waiter. Even two times we asked another waiter to help us and got them saying«oh, I am not your waiter, I will have to find them». I mean, I know I wanted something, but really all I wanted two different times was more WATER. You don’t need my waiter for that. And at times we could go 15 – 20 minutes without seeing our waiter. This place is not that big to disappear for that long… TWICE. Anyway, I digress. The food was pretty good(if not excellent), so I would probably go back on different circumstances to give another try. It’s too bad these days you can’t always match good service and good food. It would be the perfect place if I could find that.

Man — I used to go here all the time when I first moved to Manayunk — the service was great and the food was wonderful! It’s been a while since we’ve frequented The Ugly Moose, but the service has fallen off the map — the food is still wonderful, but can’t make up for the poor service we’ve gotten on our last two visits! Last week we came for dinner — the waiter was more concerned with sitting at his computer than waiting tables. This week, the guy waiting on us was not interested at all with us — we were more of an inconvenience to his evening! If it wasn’t for«hey — we’re still here» eye contact, we’d probably still be sitting there with empty glasses! It honestly feels like they have people better suited for tending bar than waiting tables, but they can’t fill that job, so they just make the bartenders wait the tables too! It’s really sad… I mean really sad! Maybe we’ll give it a few months and try again, but it will be a while before we head back here again!

I was actually surprised by how good the food was. They had a pretty nice beer selection as well. It’s not very often I feel compelled to write a review either. The service was exactly what I wanted, no chit chat and all business. And my Atomic Canuck came out way too quick for me to think it was that great. But lemme tell you right now brothers and sisters, it was! So, if your out for a quick bite and beer let this be your next destination.

The Adirondack Sandwich in a nutshell. Great bun. Great sauce. Good meat.(filet) Good sandwich. The fries and wings were delicious and they had a decent selection of beers. Their lemonade was that fake sugary crap and therefore terrible. I would definitely go back for the Adirondack but would probably try one of their burgers.

Hidden gem. Great service and food. They just redid their menu so lots of options now. The wings are the best and have great specials on them. Their beer list is always changing but great chill place to hang out.

Loved this place. I came here one night for a quick dinner with a friend and was pleasantly surprised. We started with a couple of beers that were on tap and not got their gigantic salads(she got hers with chicken on top and I ordered wings on the side) We had planned on getting dessert but the wings were so good and the salads so big we just couldn’t. Next time I’m in roxborough I’ll be back for a brew and some wings!

Went here last night. When we first walked up, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was set back from the road and shares a lot with a BBQ joint. I’m so glad we went in. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. They had ~10 beers on tap. They have a solid bar area and a small-ish dining area. I got the Ayr-Back burger(sp?) and it was fantastic. Stole a bite of the Black Bean burger, and I feel like that was even better. My only complaint was that I requested a medium rare burger and it came out as well done. That would be the only reason I chose 4 stars over 5. Even with the overdone burger, I was thrilled to be there. The service was great. I’ll definitely be returning and can’t wait to show guests this awesome restaurant.

A bunch of us went here on a Saturday night. After a couple pit stops around Manyunk we ended up at the Ugly Moose which was the only place with seating. I have to say that I really liked the Ugly Moose. It was like a cross between a hillbilly sports bar and a casual family restaurant. The place is Canadian themed and all the food is likewise named after Canadian or Native American places/tribes/landmarks. They have a couple T.V.s which were playing the usual sports and news. The building is incredibly open and feels like an Adirondack cabin. The food itself is great. We ordered their wings which were covered not smothered in buffalo sauce. The burgers and sandwiches came with a satiating helping of fries that were perfectly crisped. My chicken breast was huge but despite the great preparation, it was evident that they ordered their food from Sysco or some other factory packed food supply company. Altogether a great experience. I would go again. P. S. the beer list is a bit small

Gotta be a great place for burgers, which are among the best going in Philly… from dead rare(if it ain’t mooin’, I ain’t chewin’!) to well done(the wife’s favourite: If it’s still mooin’, SHE ain’t chewin’!) they get it right each time. The meatloaf is uniformly good(real smashed ‘taters), the salmon is cooked to a turn and the chili is «da bom’», not ten-alarm but let’s you know you ate something tasty! Of course, a great tap beer selection and a couple of very good bartenders for mixed drinkies that anyone would love. $$ for entrees and $ mixed drinks, and some weekly specials that are a lot of fun. In the winter, a roaring franklin stove keeps things warm-ish, but be sure you dress in layers so you can adjust as the nite goes along. For sports nites, lots of big TV’s but no sound so bring your NFL or NBA or MLB connexion on your tablet and an earphone. VERY noisy place, but it’s a fun noisy. 9 out of 10 for everything but food and drink, which get 10 out of 10. Go! Eat! Enjoy! CALLFIRST for parking directions… first time is a bit tricky.

Northern Exposure in Manayunk??? I took my(very adult) son there for his birthday– he’d heard of it and wanted to try. So last Saturday evening(early) he drove from Bordentown, NJ, and I from Ardmore. The ambiance is «Northern Exposure», the chairs comfortable, the staff attentive and friendly but not overbearing, the food superb and the servings bordered on excessive(I at most of my Adirondack steak(filet) sandwich for breakfast on Sunday). The lengthy and interesting beer list was appealing– I had my favorite Woodchuck ale, my son had some fascinating new beer. We started with sharing an order of poutine(Warning: big enough for 4 people) and QUITE delicious. Never mind Current G, we are not in Canada, it was a first time for both of us. We had nothing but our own well-educated palates to tell us that it was a treat. The filets in the Adirondac steak sandwich were perfect. Next time I’ll try the special– which that night was a baked fish that sounded heavenly. I look forward to bringing friends here.

Fun! And yes, they do have tree stumps for seats, though I hope it’s for show. Because do you want to sit on a tree stump? And pay for it? Drinks are good – any pour that makes me say«Yay!» is always welcome. The food is okay. Is there anywhere in the area where the food is made in house? Seriously, I’d love to know. If you have had poutine, do not get it here. Frozen fries, very little gravy, and… mozzarella. Canada, I am sorry.

I really wanted this to be a four star, but the entire experience was strange. The host/server(yes they were one and the same) seemed to care less that he or anyone else was at the restaurant. My wife and I both ordered the filet. We did not expect much, because it was a filet for under thirty bucks, but somehow Ugly Moose managed to fall short of our modest expectations. We each started with Caesar Salad with dressing on the side. The salads came out soaking wet. It was so wet the croutons started crying out for life jackets. This was not dressing making the salad wet– it’s just water. When I mentioned how wet the salad was the server just shook his head and said he hates that. The main dish looked promising. I tried the mashed potatoes first. I choked down my bite. Apparently, these are garlic mashed potatoes(not what the menu says, but hey– who doesn’t like a little garlic?). I love mashed potatoes with a little garlic. I hate mashed garlic with a little potatoes which is what this seemed to be. When I mentioned this to the server he just shook his head again. He didn’t really say anything. This was disappointing. They really were horrible and almost ruined the Steak. The Steak. This is the bright part of the meal(and hey, if can only get one thing right, make it the steak). It was so right. It honestly cut like soft butter under my fork– that’s right, no knife needed for this puppy. Ugly Moose– your steak salvaged a 2nd star for you. The server asked about the meal and we told him about our disappointment in everything except the steak. His reply? «That’s all that really matters anyways.» He brought us our check and said, «I can’t do much for you, but I did take the Coke off your check.» Gee thanks. 2/3’s of our $ 50 meal is lousy and we get a coke. Glad to know you care. If you would make an effort, you might have a good place.

I have to admit– wasn’t entirely sure what to expect from the Ugly Moose. Was it going to be a mad sketch bar or a hopping, run of the mill dive spot in Manayunk. I’m thrilled to say it was neither! I was totally blown away by its small little corner of town with its own parking and patios. The vibe was rural, yet totally hip at the same time. The legit wood stove inside and tree stump stools only adds value to this impression. Sitting down was different. I glanced at the menu and wasn’t immediately impressed. Especially with the nachos. I have to order nachos anywhere I go! When I saw that these were pretty run of the mill, my heart sank. However, the house chilli that came generously applied to them could legitimately win a cook off prize! By the time I was done with the nachos, I half way wished I had just gotten a bowel of that stuff! While the chips were totally generic, I’ve since decided that I shouldn’t expect homemade chips from this place, as it doesn’t seem to fit. However, I will say that replacing the Acme Special chips with homemade potato chips would deliver a phenomenal food experience. The beer taps were amazingly fresh– probably the best taps I’ve had in Manayunk, which says a lot since the bars are almost as common as stray cats. The icing of the experience was the staff. Quite attentive and friendly. Hands down, this will be a permanent haunt for me while living in Manayunk!

Food is really good! Crab dip and filet sandwich was really good. The burgers were good nothing crazy though. As for the service, it sucks. The bartender wasn’t really friendly to my group, but was so happy when talking to the man next to us and taking shots with him and our server was not friendly either, nor really helpful. We had to ask another server numerous times for things. Service can definitely use some help. Inside the place is super cozy and has a warm feel. Overall any place can have good food but when you’re being served by rude/inattentive people it makes the experience horrible.
