Ursula has framed a large antique map for us and is now doing some restoration work on a large antique mirror. She has a keen eye, great suggestions, and an outstanding knowledge of how frames are made, where they are made, and the different grades of material. It costs a lot to have custom frames made no matter where you go. When I am making that kind of investment I want to know it will be done right. Ursula gives you that confidence. We are lucky to have found her. I won’t go anywhere else now. As a side note, I adore her studio. I wanted to hang out in there long after we selected our frame and paid. It is a gorgeous, well designed space in which you are surrounded by beautiful wood samples. You can tell she is not just a business owner or technician but has a real aesthetic eye too.

Ursula is a great resource. She has framed many of my acquisitions and I am always elated with the results. As good as it gets, and fair treatment always.

Ursula Hobson Fine Art Framing has done probably six or seven very old and fragile pieces for me. Watercolors and a number of etchings. Generally, I would say the frame selection is tailored towards very formal, traditional display of museum quality pieces. That being said, when she learned I wanted to keep a consistent, simple old wood-with-wear frame for the etchings and one of them had this terrible cheap frame, she searched her collection of old frames for re-use and found a perfect complementary frame for the piece. She has established relationships with conservators to help repair works — so she is a one stop shop of sorts for say, a wonderful piece you’ve picked up at auction but has acid burns and mildew in the margins. She recommends how to handle the piece to prevent further damage, if needed, and coordinates that end of the process for the customer. I found this to be very helpful because the pieces I brought to her were all in need of restoration when I purchased them. She is by appointment only now and so I haven’t been there in awhile because I’m a bit of a last minute planner but if you want an impeccable professional in the care and display of your fine art, by all means, make an appointment to see her.
