US Post Office

Bitch hung up on me and wouldn’t let me pick up my package. Completely awful.

Don’t go unless you have hours to kill. I tried to bypass the huge line by using the self-​serve machine. After swiping my card, the machine gave me a half blank blank sticker (no ink in machine, no chills given by staff). There was no warning on the machine.
I was sent to wait in 25 minute line. Watched someone zip ahead of everyone else in line, hey no problem take your time everyone else has been waiting five-​ever.
Arrive in a good mood, leave enraged. They will find a way to let you know 1) you don’t matter; 2) they don’t care; 3) hey, it’s just your time and mail so what’s your problem. Horrifically understaffed, but the place is so awful I’m not sure more apathetic employees would help. Literally the worst post office ever. Avoid at ALL costs, should be shut down.

I absolutely hate when I purchase something and they ship it through USPS. My package arrived at this location yesterday at 3:00 am. At 10:06 am, it says out for delivery. At 11:00 am, it says that it arrived that the exact location it left. At 7:00 pm the same day, it says available for pickup. When the mail was picked up this morning — it wasn’t in there. This has happened to me so many times. No wonder the post office is struggling. The experience is absolutely awful. It is 100% worth it to spend the extra money for better service. The delivery date was yesterday. I have ordered dozens of packages and this happens every time. It seems as though none of the agents have any idea what is going on. They go into the back and return with absolutely no answers. I hate this post office!

if not for the self-​service kiosk i would never set foot in this USPS again. even then, the USPS bungles all my deliveries since they’re incapable of reading the express service postage. all my express stuff goes in the standard post and arrives weeks after the fact.

These people are incompetent. The operating time of this location is misleading. I arrived at their opening time, 8am, only to wait for close to an hour for nothing. A notification of a delay of ANY sort would have been welcome. No one works here.

I agree that the wait is intolerable at this branch. However, what our local elected representatives do not realize is the horrible post office service affects employment for local residents. Most businesses will move to a location where they can more easily send and receive mail, and take the jobs with them.
Furthermore, this is a prime example of why the postal service desks (but not the entire post office) should be privatized. Rather than maintain this inefficient branch, simply allow a local bank or another local business to set up a counter to handle the U.S. mail. If they do not provide good customer service then do not renew the contract with that private company. The government’s arguments against privatization are not that persuasive. Sure the post office houses valuable items, but so does the local bank, and the inventory at the local Home Depot, or the local FEDEX dropoff location is probably more valuable than the inventory at the post office. The other argument against it, that the post office would have to pick up mail from too many locations, is not persuasive either. How many streetside post office mailboxes are visited each day? In today’s world it would not be impossible to allow a local establishment to tap into the post office computer system. We let local businesses sell lottery tickets and that computer system is pretty sophisticated. Oh, and did I mention that we’ve privatized some of our country’s military operations?
Hopefully some day the government will realize that privatization of postal service counters is the way to go, so we can make the post office relevant again. It should become so good that Amazon does not feel the need to test drone delivery of purchases.

This is THE worst place to get anything done. There are hardly any staff and the staff that are here are rude. I was blamed for them not doing their due diligence which almost cost me my trip in addition to another $ 85. Horrible customer service.

If I could give USPS no stars, I would. If you try to call the general customer service line, you will not be able to speak to a human. And no one picks up the phone at the processing center, either. So, customer service is essentially nonexistent. I personally never ship USPS, and I’ll be careful in the future to see how items I buy are shipped, because I’ll avoid them at all cost. Horrendous.

I returned to this location the following day, March 25, also at about 6:00pm. The line was even longer. I decided to go ahead and deposit my letter into the general mail slot instead of waiting in line for who-​knows-​how-​long. My letter needed to be postmarked by that day, but I just didn’t have the time to wait in a long line to *see* that it got postmarked timely.
Guess what? My letter was postmarked the next day, in the PM, and I missed my deadline. Not only do I not understand how my letter was not postmarked that day, but I do not understand how my letter was not even postmarked until after NOON the next day. Ugh.
How can I possibly prove to the recipient that I DID mail it on time???

This location is horrendously bad. Numerous times, I have had mailpersons drop my mail on the doorstep, or tuck it inside the bars on my storm door (making it accessible to anyone walking down the street). This includes packages containing purchases I have made. This is in spite of the fact that I have a sign taped to the door indicating where to deposit the mail (inches from the sign).
Twice I have received delivery notices for important documents which were not properly or completely filled out with the necessary information by the delivery person, making it a prolonged and challenging hassle to locate my item and request that it be redelivered.
In the first instance, I scheduled a redelivery, waited at home the day it was due, and the item was not delivered. One precious day wasted waiting. Called to inquire as to why that happened, and to reschedule redelivery. The person I spoke with opened a complaint case and said I would be called within 2 – 3 days to have that failure explained to me. That call never came. But my item was delivered the second time I waited at home for it, so I didn’t bother further with the situation.
In the second instance, which has inspired this review, my item was not redelivered on the scheduled day, and another day was wasted at home waiting. I called to reschedule redelivery. The person I spoke with rescheduled that, and opened a complaint case, telling me I would hear back within 2 – 3 days with an explanation of the failure. The second time I waited, my mail was delivered.
This time, I did receive the call, and it went as follows. A woman asked me if I received the item, I said yes, and she said great, have a good day! I said wait, the purpose of this call-​back was to inform me as to why the failure to redeliver on the first scheduled date occurred. I told her this is the second time I’ve experienced this with this post office. She said she has no idea, but can investigate and call me back. I said that was the point of calling me, you were expected to have already investigated and then to call me back once you knew. The point is not just to check and see if I got the package, which can easily be discerned by looking it up; it was certified mail, so there is proof I received it.
In a highly annoyed voice, she read the call-​back instructions aloud, apparently thinking she was letting me know that there was no indication of that. Her voice fell as she realized it specified I was to be called with an explanation. Then she said she’d patch me through to the delivery supervisor, and I could ask him. I said ok, terrific, so I’ll start all over…
I was connected through to an automated message that informed me that the person I was trying to reach was unavailable and their system was not set up to receive voicemail. Please try again at another time.
The pervasive incompetence is both consistent and absurd.

I have mixed feelings about this post office. You would think that as one of the largest post offices in the city, as well as being one of the main locations, that you would expect to receive better service. Nope! Think again.
Came to mail some packages, letters, and to buy some stamps. Can you believe that they couldn’t find a full book of stamps??? I asked for a generic forever stamp — the clerk offered me Valentine’s stamps. When I asked if there was a flag or something else available, I was offered Hanukkah stamps. When I politely declined them, I was told, «What’s wrong with Hanukkah stamps?!? It will get your mail where it needs to go.» Yes, but I’m sorry, I am not Jewish and neither are my mail recipients, and I asked for a generic, non-​Holiday stamp. Then they wanted to give me Wilt Chamberlain stamps. Eventually I gave up on trying to buy a full book of stamps and bought whatever they had on hand. Could not have been more annoyed.

This is the worst USPS in the country. It’s not a wonder since it’s in Philadelphia; the general stank of the city also includes all customer service work done in the city. This place is no exception. I’ve consistently have packages lost here. Whenever I call to ask what is going in, it’s so unlikely that I’ll actually get to speak to a real person. I can’t wait until I move and none of my mail comes through this post office.

Do NOT come here to get or renew a passport. I got here at 10:30am and I am still here 11:30am. Lines? None. There is just not a single person at the Passport counter. I am completely ignored. There are no signs to indicate whether or not this is even open. Someone passed me an hour ago and said someone will be along to help me shortly. As if.

USPS really needs to get it together. I was forced to come here to pick up a couple of packages because I wasn’t home when they tried to deliver the first time. They did not leave a notice on my door about this but emailed me a day after saying they would be attempted to be delivered the next day. They were not. I happened to know where this post office was, so I figured they would have brought my packages here. After waiting in line for a while, a rather unfriendly clerk came over and asked me to write down my tracking number and went away again. After waiting another several minutes, she collected my numbers and went to get my packages. However, she only came back with one and had almost moved onto the next customer and thrown away my tracking number before I asked her where my second package was and she picked the slip backed up and went to get it. She did not seem apologetic at all, but seemed like I was the one making her do a chore for me instead of her job.
My packages were also huge so I had to cab back to my house because I don’t have a car. I realize this is not always the case, but if I order something to be delivered to my house, I would like it to be delivered there so I do not have to waste time and money going to pick it up somewhere else. I know this review is probably not going to change anything about the service, but I really wish USPS had a more organized, efficient system as I have seen in other cities.

Awful. Wish I could give negative stars. Went to get a passport where on their website it says is done until 7:45 PM. Get there at 6:30 and lady says she is closing now. Pulls the gate closed and tells me to leave. When I told her about the timing on the website she completely ignored me. Didn’t fight it too hard because judging by her character I could she her purposely sabotaging the process. Awful.

This post office is huge — like almost a monstrosity. You would think because it’s so huge, that they’d have a huge staff to tend to customer needs. This is not the case.
If you live in an urban area in Philly, this is usually where your packages are left if you aren’t home when they attempt to deliver. It’s really annoying, because often there is a USPS closer to where you live, but they still leave it here. If you call their customer service, they will NOT let you speak to anyone, so you end up not getting any of your questions answered. Furthermore, if you schedule a redelivery, they just ignore your request completely, and it never happens. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
So, I ended up here to collect my package which USPS failed to redeliver. I waited in line, but of course, they told me I had to wait in some other line. Here I waited for a good 10 – 15 minutes for a slightly grumpy woman to help me, and another 10 minutes for her to find my package.
Come on USPS — make this system more efficient!

This place is a joke, would give it negative stars if I could. Bring your sleeping bag and camping gear cause you’re going to be there for awhile. Not sure why they have 1 person working the counter on a busy Saturday, what are the rest of those clowns working there doing? They have convenient hours but avoid this post office if you can.

Everyone and their brother’s mother’s dog comes to this location because it’s open until 8 PM.
Yeah, you get stamps. You send things. But the vibe is overwhelmingly tense to me. This Post Office is perplexing: I can’t tell who I feel worse for, the postal workers or the customers?
I guess the one thing everyone here has in common is that they’re rather be somewhere else, perhaps sunning themselves in Hawaii, or eating at one of those minimalist yogurt shops, or maybe even at home, cleaning out their refrigerator at 11 PM on trash night when they’re dead tired.
Whatever the case may be, this place makes people feel angry. Two visits ago, I remember seeing some dogeared print out sign that said to call a 1 – 800 number if the wait took longer than X-​amount of minutes. At that time, I was waiting over that x-​amount when I read the sign, so I was annoyed, but not annoyed enough to call the 1 – 800 number. This last visit, the service was quick, but the employees were obviously miserable.
So, you see the root of my perplexity?
Verdict: you can send your shiz out until 8 PM, but nobody’s gonna be happy about it. And why should anyone be? Maybe try to get your shiz together before 5 PM.

All I can say is — avoid this place if at all possible!!! I always end up waiting in line for like 30 minutes, and customer service is awful.
I now try to get packages delivered to spots where I KNOW I can pick them up without having to head to the Post Office!
Also, I believe they’re making some cut-​backs centrally, and my delivery has been awfully unpredictable lately.
