This food was beyond delicious! Highlight for me was the Nebrodini Mushroom item on ‘The Dirt List’…perfection in seasoning and texture… just absolutely unreal. Golden beet app was a perfect little array of flavors and textures that when combined were just phenomenal. Attentive service and beautiful atmosphere. Love it and will definitely be returning(if we’re able to get a reservation ahead of time!)

Was brought here by coworkers this week and was really surprised at how much i enjoyed the food. In particular, the carpaccio with turnip was especially my favorite and really a star item on the menu. The wine menu is especially strong though I do wish they added more on the beer side, that is probably the only thing lacking.

Finally was able to get here. It’s as amazing as it’s reputation. Each dish was exceptional. Not as expensive as we were expecting. Service was also top notch. Love the space and design too. We’re lucky to have one of the premier vegetarian restaurants in the USA in our city.

Let me start by saying this was not my first time at Vedge. I been going there since it first opened. The amazing food and quality service have kept me coming back time and time again. However, I will never return after my most recent experience(no matter how delicious and inventive the food is). I’ve been a server for the past five years of my life, so it’s rare that I complain about service in a restaurant, because I absolutely understand that mistakes happen. But there is no excuse for a server that has a horrible attitude right off the bat; especially when a table of 4 typically spends over $ 300 on dinner at Vedge. At that premium price I expect outstanding service. Instead, our server greeted us by saying«Well I see some of you already have drinks, can I get the rest of you something?»(Yes, I already had a drink because we weren’t allowed to be seated until our entire party was there, so my boyfriend and I grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for my parents-a totally common practice in restaurants). We never heard anything like«Welcome to Vedge, my name is so-and-so.» Nothing. If it had been my first time there I would have had no idea how to order. Now I was put off by this, but I wanted to enjoy the night so I was willing to let it go. The next time he was back at our table all I heard was«Any questions?» We said no. The first thing I ordered was from«The Dirt List,» which people typically have as their third course, but I really love the fingerling potatoes, so I wanted them first. The waiter audibly scoffed at me and told me that’s not how people do things here(Maybe if you wanted me to order in a particular way you should have given my table some kind of introduction to the menu!). Our first course arrived and my dad asked for the wine list to which our waited replied«You mean the bottles?» As if he couldn’t believe people like us could afford a bottle of wine. He never came back to ask how the food was. He never came back to ask what bottle we wanted so my dad ordered from the bus boy. I had an empty drink for over 20 minutes in a fine dining restaurant. In fact, he went to every table except ours, refreshing waters, asking if anyone needed another drink, etc. Nothing for us. The bus boys(who were great, by the way) cleared our plates and set up for the next course and our waiter still had not returned to the table. It did not seem like we would be getting our bottle of wine. At this point my dad went to speak to a manager. The manager was not apologetic and said since he wasn’t there he could not be sure what happened, but that he would take over the table service. This was all going on for about a half hour and our waiter still did not come over to the table once. I was so appalled at this point that I said I would rather leave and go somewhere else. The owner came out to talk to my dad, and when he said we would like to leave she handed him the bill for what we had eaten so far. Now we’re not the type of family to run out on a bill so of course we paid it. However, when you are the owner of a restaurant you absolutely have the authority to take care of the bill yourself, or at least offer a discount. I was honestly shocked that they did none of these things. I know how the service industry works and I can assure you that if a similar situation had occurred anywhere I have worked before the owner and/or managers would not even hear of the customers paying for the bill at this point. Probably because they’re hoping the customer will come back, or at least wont post a bad review. Vedge has amazing food. But so do many other restaurants in Philadelphia. Ultimately, the restaurant business is a customer service industry and repeat business and word of mouth are vital to the success of the restaurant. I am disappointed that one of my previously favorite restaurants has become so snooty, but I have plenty of dining options. I don’t need to spend over $ 300 on dinner only to be served by a pretentious, stuck up hipster that could not care less about my dining experience. Did I mention that this also happened to be my birthday dinner?

It’s not the best place to bring a «meatatarian» to experience vegan food, especially for the first time. Yet the place has great vibes: I love the romantic touch to interior design and terrific customer service.

Went here for my graduation dinner because I figured it was the easiest way to feed a family of 5 and I’d been only once before. Everything was perfect, our waiter was I think the best I’ve ever had at any restaurant in my entire life. He was armed with recommendations and even gave us a free off the menu dish(mushroom something). I was a little nervous about my parents liking it since they are more simple but they loved it! We got: — salade verge: my dads favorite — rotabaga fondue: crowd favorite, parents aren’t the biggest fans of cheese and they loved it! — stuffed avocado: also delicious, my sisters favorite — spicy tofu: recommend, the edamame purée was a nice touch — Maitake mushroom: even the mushroom haters in the group loved it! — Brussel sprouts: delicious, highly recommend — Florida corn: my least favorite dish

There were 3 courses, six items to choose from in each course. We arrived with a party of 6 and ordered the whole menu plus all 5 desserts. Everyone, including my anti-vegetarian boyfriend loved this place. The dishes were elaborate, and delicious. Keep a menu on on hand because it’s easy to have no idea what you’re eating. Textures, colors and flavors are all surprises. The rutabaga dip stands out as my favorite. They took the concept of a pretzel with cheese and used special vegan alchemy until the rutabaga tasted like cheese. It’s a very attractive atmosphere in a historic building with high ceilings and arched antique glass windows. The waitstaff was attentive, and informative. Overall an excellent experience.

Best Vegetarian Restaurant that I’ve been to! I live in DC and heard about Vedge from a friend and decided to try it out! I’ve scoured upscale vegetarian restaurants in NYC, Boston, Phili, DC, and even Candle 79 in NYC doesn’t hold a candle to Vedge. My meat feign boyfriend wasn’t even craving meat when we went to Vedge. Vedge takes a modern approach to otherwise bland vegetarian food. They can even dress up tofu and make it look sexy! I LOVED the Spicy Tofu, perfectly marinated and the edamame purée added a nice touch. The brussel sprouts were good too — they are shaved, not whole pieces like you would expect. We enjoyed the portabello carpaccio(small, but good!), stuffed avocado, and the eggplant braciole. The Rutabaga fondue is the only thing I wouldn’t highly recommend. The soft pretzel is nice, but not quite worth the $ 12. I would keep your money and go somewhere else in the city for a Philly soft pretzel. I had the Cosmic Dancer — which I thought would be like a mojito — which wasn’t. Don’t recommend it. I swapped it for the Baby Boomerang, which was a much better choice which I do recommend! The service is impeccable. They are attentive, great at explaining the food and answering our questions(I had a bunch!) and I had no issues swapping out my drink. Alas, it was hard to get up after sharing and devouring 6 plates of food, we’ll deff make a pitstop over to Vedge when we stop by Philly. As a tip: Make a recommendation at least a week in advance. The restaurant gets booked up quickly. I waited until Mon to make a reservation for Thurs and ended up getting a slot at 9:30pm. So the earlier, the better!

I have to add my own 5 star review just because, I can’t believe it’s taking this long! My wife and I went this past Friday, it was our fourth time, but this time, we brought two of our vegan friend’s who were super excited to try the place and a non vegan husband buddy who was a good sport. My hype level was through the roof and hoped that Vedge would deliver as always. Well, of course it did. Shout out to our cool server who was super helpful, kind, and generous. He answered all our questions and was professional plus easy going, even though we shut the place down, literally. And what a food treat, from now on, I’m only going with five people because that number allowed us to get the whole menu and try everything. What a incredible experience. I always get weak in the knees for the grilled seitan but the mushroom main dish really stood out as well as the all the items in the dirt list except this soup dish. The rutabaga fondue is bowl licking good, the spring salad with lentils, do light and flavorful. You literally can’t go wrong ordering. Dining at it best, service at it best, flavors that are unmatched. Simply incredible.

Fantastic decision to come here with a friend. We had a reservation from OpenTable so we were seated immediately. Oddly, our server was very friendly – he very willingly recommended dishes to some hungry college students traveling into a fine dining restaurant with streetwear and backpacks on. After making our decision, we were started off with asparagus purée shots. I believe this is customary: the chefs create something interesting and serve it to the customers as an appetizer of sort, free of charge. I try not to analogize taste of food to chicken, but the shots really tasted like a warm chicken soup, so it was delicious in my book. Moving onto the main courses, I got the stuffed avocado, grilled tofu steak, brussel sprouts and ramps and celery. I thoroughly enjoyed the stuffed avocado because the dish was nicely thought out. Atop the avocado bowl was some pickled cauliflower that had a pretty addictive dill taste. The nori and rice was really great also, and the pepper purée was a nice earthy tone that the dish needed to balance out the acidity. I think there are a crap ton of reviews about the salmon steak already. One thing to note – these portions are small. After this, we went to Nanzhou Noodle in Chinatown to eat more(so that we could actually be full), but Vedge certainly was a great experience. I also heard from my friend who was a Vedge repeat customer that the cocktails and drinks are very creative… definitely give them a go!

Vedge, what can be said of you? Just kidding, there’s so much to say! I came here on a Monday night at 9PM for a table of two. We made the reservation a few weeks prior, and the 9PM slot was one of very few reservations left. We were seated promptly, and our server was attentive and knowledgable. We started off with a few drinks — the cocktails are good, but pricey. I’d probably go with a glass of wine or a beer next time, and save the cocktails for a bar or speakeasy. The dinner menu is broken down into three parts — the bar, grill, and dirt list. Think of ‘bar’ items as appetizers, the grill as main dishes, and the dirt list as sides. Going with what our server recommended(3 – 4 dishes per person), we ordered two apps, two mains, and two dirt list items to share. The highlights: First, the rutabaga fondue(a MUST get); it tastes similar to a cheese fondue, but the charred onion on top turns it into a thick and savory french onion soup. Paired with the pretzel(firm and crispy on the outside, soft and chewy inside), this was definitely one of the best dishes of the night. Second, the spicy tofu. Similar to a perfectly grilled and marbled steak, the tofu was tender and cut like butter. That’s how good it was! Dip a slice into the roasted miso and edamame purée, and your tongue will thank you.(The seitan was a little too charred and stringy for me, but both mains were flavorful.) Third, the broccolini rabe. I found the rabe to be better than the brussels sprouts. Served with some pickled turnip and sitting atop a thick tahini sauce, the broccolini offered a nice respite from some of the heavier dishes, including the roasted, and consequently rather oily, shaved sprouts. We finished off dinner with dessert, the chocolate bar. This was more like a fudge bar, and it was served alongside a large scoop of potent lavender ice cream. Yum! One caveat about Vedge — their dishes seem to be geared towards people who prefer the taste of non-vegan foods but are interested in venturing into the vegan and vegetarian domains. Beware if you dislike the taste of meat, as some of Vedge’s dishes may be off-putting! Tl;dr — Rutabaga and spicy tofu dishes are standouts at this top-notch vegan restaurant. Be sure to book early!

Off-the-hook Delish! Truly a meal to remember. I was kidnapped/rescued by some friends, so I had no expectations, and we were lucky to get a table without reservations. Service was snappy and friendly. Food is small plate format with 2 – 3 plates/person recommended. Fairly pricey for some items like Ramps $ 11 and Asparagus $ 9. But totally worth it for the more complex dishes that had simply amazing flavors with perfect textures, like the Stuffed Avocado and the Portobello Carpaccio(this one in particular was a WOW!) You should check this place out.

We were lucky enough to be seated right away, even though my GF told me it is always packed. She brought me here because she had been here before and loved it. The service was good, the food was amazing even though portions are minimal. If you love vegetables, even though you’re not a vegetarian, you will like this place . The way the dishes are prepared are so creative and full of flavor, i could eat like this every day! We had the beets, the eggplant, the mushrooms. All very tasty. A bit expensive for such portions though but the quality of ingredients and the flavor of the food itself makes it worthwhile.

Vedge is a wonderful place. But why –1 star? Vedge did nothing wrong. The service was fantastic — the waiter was amicable, knowledgeable, and present when we wanted him to be(which can also be said about the servers attending to our water glasses and finished plates). The food was well thought and prepared. The atmosphere was upscale yet casual and chic. But the food just didn’t fit our taste palettes quite as well as we would have liked. We ordered: from the vedge bar 1) Stuffed avocado(the roasted peppers sauce underneath the avocado was excellent, but the pickled cauliflower was too tart for my taste) and 2) Salt Roasted Gold Beets(the smoked tofu was good); from the grill 3) Eggplant Braciole(the texture was very mushy; I felt like I was eating a really soft sausage, but it was weird bc I know it’s not meat) and 4) Seared Maitake Mushroom(the mushroom was my second favorite dish, but I was not a fan of the celery ball); from the dirt list 5) Fingerling potatoes(I liked this dish the best, even though it’s a side dish) My review sounds like one of those cliché breakup lines, in which the dude says, «hey, you’re a great person, you didn’t do anything wrong. It’s me. the problem is me.»

What a great variety of things to do with a vegetable, wow! The maritake mushroom was fantastic, and the rutabaga fondue was very good. Hard to believe it’s cheeseless. That said, the portions are so tiny(considering they are veggies which is much cheaper than meat). Priced like meat, it seemed awfully steep for what you got. I was still pretty hungry after having a starter and entrée with a side, which is one item from each category. Sadly, the cheesecake was the size of a mini cupcake for $ 10 so I ended up eating a yogurt at home. And I am a very small woman — can’t imagine a full sized man being satisfied.

We visited Philadelphia for two days and we are so thankful that we discovered this place thanks to all the Unilocal reviews! This is definitely the classiest and most delicious vegan restaurant I have been to. Our waitress was excellent, we had a great table by a window, the ambiance was classy and inviting, and the space looked like someone’s house with tables arranged throughout several rooms. What we ordered: Starters: Rutabaga Fondue: pretzel is soft, glazed with soy butter, and sprinkled with salt. The fondue was creamy, not very thick. I forgot that the restaurant was vegan and was surprised when I found out this wasn’t real cheese. Delicious appetizer. Too much for one person, definitely share. Stuffed avocado: delicious, beautiful presentation Entrees: Glazed Tofu: so good! I wish I could go back for more. The combination of flavors and textures of this dish were perfect. Highly recommended Cauliflower crêpe: good but a little bland Sides: Fingerling potatoes: AMAZING! Whoever came up with this is a genius. We had a similar preparation at another restaurant in Philly but this one is so much better. Instead of regular fries or wedges, these are small whole potatoes that were smashed. Whatever they used to glaze these was just delicious. I loved the Worcestershire sauce it came with. This is an excellent restaurant for vegans, vegetarians, or anyone who appreciates delicious food focused around vegetables. They also have a soy free menu which was helpful for my husband who is allergic to soy.

Came here with two friends on a Friday night around 6:30pm. We ended up waiting about thirty minutes for three seats at the bar. Our bartender, Brandon, was awesome and made us some great drinks. My friend ordered the Hemingway Daiquiri and my other friend ordered the Sangria and they were both perfect. We were there during happy hour so we ordered the sweet potato lettuce wrap off the happy hour menu which was tasty, but we also ordered the stuffed avocado off the regular menu next and it was AMAZING. It came stuffed with cauliflower«fried rice» which was crispy and delicious. We then ordered some more food off the Happy Hour menu which included the mushroom steak wit(my names of happy hour menus might be a bit off) and the korean seitan taco. Definitely liked the mushroom steak wit way better than the korean seitan taco and because we liked it so much we ordered three more so we could each have another one. We ended with dessert — we shared the meyer lemon cheesecake, Nola mud pie, and sticky toffee pudding. I cannot believe I ate such an amazing meal that was completely vegan. Everything I ate was so good and I cannot wait to go back to try more things off the menu! Service was great and it was well worth the wait.

I moved to Philly a year ago and didn’t realize I lived 300ft from one of the best vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the city. My friend said he made reservations for us at Vedge and that he thought I would love it — he was absolutely right. I LOVED it. I truly haven’t had better upscale vegetarian food ever in my life before. We ordered a drink and three courses for the both of us. The tofu was spicy and the seitan was slightly salty — those are literally the only two complaints I have here. It was a while ago so I don’t remember the name of what I had ordered as an appetizer — it had beets that were perfectly marinated and cooked well. My friend and I shared a «queso» with bread. This«queso» was made from RUTABAGA!!! My mind was blown. I asked the waiter how it was prepared and he said they crushed rutabaga and added nutritional yeast. It literally tasted like a high-end Mexican restaurant queso. I was very impressed to say the least. Tip: I wouldn’t suggest ordering anything off the dirt menu even if you are going for the all-out-experience. The portions were extra small and not very good. Save the money and maybe order an after dinner drink instead(I finished off with a shot of espresso). Again, I HIGHLY recommend this place. Service was excellent and the food was 5-stars. Vedge doesn’t have a 28 on Zagat for nothing: P

Believe the hype people, believe it! First of all, you should know that I had been wanting to go to Vedge for about 2 years. You see, the problem was that in order to get a Saturday night reso, you need to plan about 2 months ahead. I rarely plan to leave my nest in the burbs for a jaunt in the city that far in advance, so in December when the hubs asked me where I wanted to go in February to celebrate our 10 years of togetherness, I screamed«VEDGE»! Vedge did not disappoint. The service was akin to finer dining, but in a more casual atmosphere and without the fuss. The décor is casually elegant. They have done a nice job of marrying the historical elements of the building with modern touches. We started with the fresh hearts of palm and rutabaga fondue from The Vedge Bar section of the menu. The rutabaga fondue was really good! The consistency of the«cheese» was a bit thin, but the flavor was great. It was served with a warm, fresh baked soft pretzel loaf, pickled veggies and a smoked sliver of rutabaga– yum, yum, yum. The heart of palm was also very good, though only one small slice of palm was on the plate [2 would have been better :)]. It was accompanied by a smoked mashed potato and a chile chutney. From the Grille menu, we ordered the brassicas and the roasted maitake mushroom. The waiter suggested the mushroom dish, based on the wine we ordered. He was right, btw. It was served with a celery root fritter and leek remoulade. It was outstanding and probably my favorite dish of the evening. The brassicas consisted of romanesco and white & purple cauliflower prepared with an African/morrocan style spice profile. We ordered a bottle of French Cabernet Franc. It was very different than any Cab Franc I have had in the past. It was a light and unfiltered wine, with an earthy flavor, that paired nicely with the plant based meal. From the Dirt menu, we ordered the chinese broccoli and the sunchokes. The broccoli was laced with a smoky flavor. It was good, but I would try something different next time– cuz I make some pretty mean broccoli at home. The sunchokes were prepared in a sauce that was described as a black garlic buffalo sauce. I found it to be more on the sweet side than spicy side. It didn’t taste like typical buffalo sauce at all, but I loved it and thought it was a great dish! Lastly, we finished with the NOLA mud pie and the sticky toffee pudding. The mud pie was rich and tasty. The toffee pudding was also very good, but the cedar ice cream on top was a bit too heavy on the liquid smoke, imo. One final note: Neither my husband, nor I, are vegan or vegetarian; however, we both love plant based meals. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Vedge and appreciate the creativity and artistry required to made such interesting dishes that are both pleasing to the palate and aesthetically pleasing as well. We will definitely go back.
