Watutsi Pub

Went to a private party here. The drinks were strong (almost too strong– but only until you can’t taste it anymore ;]). My boyfriend and I walked over directly after work so we were starving. There’s a small hole in the wall (literally) where you can order food from a big dude in a chef’s jacket. We went with the curry chicken. It was decent. My only qualm is the amount of chopped up bones. It was the type of thing your immigrant granny would make on a tuesday night (kinda throw some stuff in a pot and make it work). It was cheap and enough for two hungry adults so I can’t be too mad.
I’d go back to check on the scene when the place is open to the public.

Watutsi is the craziest bar I’ve ever been to. I have gone two times?
The first time was sort of normal. They supposedly had a special on Bud Lights, Bud Light con Lime and Budweiser for $ 2. I tried to order a martini. Admittedly my bad, but the bartender didn’t know what a martini was. weird.
But then it became clear he ALSO didn’t know what Bud Light was. Literally, I asked for a Bud Light both times I went there, and he looked confused. They didn’t only not HAVE Bud Light, HE LITERALLY HAD NEVER HEARD OF IT. and asked if I meant the can with a «BL» and we had a really long confusing conversation about the difference between Bud Light con Lime and regular Bud Light, both bottled adorned with the letters «BL»
Anyway, they sort of have food. a an came up behind us and told us if we wanted food, they had two orders of wings and one order of french fries left when we got there, so we chose the french fries. crinkle cut.
They also have bowl of doritos on the counters. thats fun? but sort of a compulsive food to have around when youre drinking.
The next time we went, a very large jamaican man was LITERALLY SCREAMING FOR AN HOUR and not making sense. he was very loudly recounting some physical altercation. it became clear that everyone in the bar was… not in the same frame of mind as we were. and not really in an amusing way??? more of a HOW DID WE FALL DOWN THE PHILLY RABBIT HOLE way.
There are really fun local bars in west Philly like Queen of Sheeba, Abby’s Desert Lounge, and Gojjo. go there instead???
