My friend and I were heading to an Italian restaurant for pizza, but we changed our appetite(well, my appetite) suddenly changed to Asian food. We randomly entered this place and had our dinner here. This place is very clean compare to other Chinese restaurants. The food, it was alright. Nothing special but nothing lower expectations. The price is very reasonable(maybe 2 – 3 dollars cheaper than other places), so even though I paid extra 3 for 3 shrimps, I think it was still decent. Please try.

I stopped this weekend looking to buy a quart of miso soup and found the place closed and looking pretty much out of business.

Q: Why do I keep insisting on rolling the dice and continuing to eat Chinese food outside of Chinatown? A: I think that I can always order my way into a good meal. My knowledge of Chinese food was no match for this restaurant. I was shopping in University City the other evening and I was looking for a place to grab a quick bite. Most of the restaurants were pretty crowded with a date night kinda feel. I chose Won Because there were not that many people there and a flat screen TV was showing my favorite show«Shark Tank». A very nice young lady showed me to my table. I ordered a eggroll and a crispy spring roll to munch on while I checked out the menu. The rolls were not fresh and tasted frozen. They had Chinese Korean and Japanese food on the menu, and I setteled on the Bulkoki(sucker for Korean BBQ) I ordered it with extra kimchi, And the server politely told me that they were out of kimchi. I don’t know about you but I cannot eat Korean barbeque without kimchi. It’s like bread without butter, fried chicken without hot sauce, or a hoagie without sarcone bread. I try to order some Chinese noodles, but they were out of choi sum. We went up and down the menu trying to put together what I considered a decent meal. Finally the server said this is Chinese American food, you have to go to Chinatown to get the stuff you want. Word. At her advice I ordered the beef chow fun And it was absolutely awful. I left 3 quarters of it on the plate, paid the check and chalk it up to a lesson learned.

Sometimes there ain’t nothing that hits the spot like a bit of greasy, Americanized Chinese food. And at Won Oriental, you get more than a bit with your order. Items are priced similarly to Beijing at Penn(that is to say, a bit high), but your portions are MASSIVE. Get an order of lo mein here and be prepared for three days worth of lo mein. Generally tasty, sufficiently greasy and overall a good bargain — what else do you want from your local Chinese take-out store? Also, you get it fast(of course), probably because the place is always dead empty when I go. The fact that they have no minimum for credit is a nice touch.

This place and Yue Kee’s Food truck have been two places that I’ve continuously eaten at ever since I was like 6-years old. #1 thing to eat here is DEFINITELY the steamed dumplings!!! They are AMAZING!!! My family and I have tried to recreate those dumplings, but it’s the wrapper that makes this dumpling phenomenal! I may live in Seattle now, but I purposely go back to Philly just so I can eat some of these dumplings and bring them home to my family. And you get 5 pretty big dumplings for under $ 4! We also like to order the Beef with Broccoli lunch special too. It is a huge portion, so I usually split it and it comes with an eggroll, but you can upgrade it to a big bowl of soup for just 40 cents! The hot and sour soup is alright though… it’s missing the sour flavor. Pros: — DUMPLINGS!!! Order one of these per person in your party! They are to die for… at least the steamed ones are :) — Lunch special will give you a huge portion Cons: — They need to work on their hot and sour soup… it just taste like it’s missing something in addition to the sour flavor Why I gave it a 4… The dumplings are AMAZING! Kind of surprised that not many Unilocalers know about this hidden little gem. Get them steamed too… I don’t know if the pan-fried kind is as delicious, but it probably is thanks to that amazing wrapper! Lunch special portions are HUGE! So be prepared to split it with a friend of to carry a take home box out of Won Oriental Restaurant. They just need to work on their hot and sour soup and add to it; it just needs more depth to its flavors. But seriously, get those DUMPLINGS!!!

Got take-out from here during my lunch break one day, and for what you pay, they give you A LOT of food – enough for leftovers for the next day! The wait wasn’t very long and it wasn’t that crowded either. Surprising for the lunch hour! On occasion, provided I have enough time, I’ll eat in, and when I do, I usually get the sweet and sour tofu. Not that the sesame chicken(which I got the first time) wasn’t good, but most often, I’ll aim for the tofu since it’s healthier anyway ;)

Normally I’d give them 5 stars, but they engage in shady biz practices. I ordered rice from them along with a combo. They forgot my rice, and when I called about it, they said I wasn’t charged full price. Really? Cuz that’s not what my card said. Plus, if you forgot my rice, how can you then say I wasn’t charged full price? SHADY…

I’ve tried a lot of Asian restaurants in various cities, and this could possibly be the worst tasting Asian food I’ve ever had. How could you mess up the fried rice? It’s certainly the worst tasting Asian food in the University City and Philadelphia area, so you’re better going to one of the other ones if you have a choice.

In a sentence: my favorite American-Chinese-Korean joint in UCity. Hear me out. I have a set of favorite dishes that I order every time, so I literally have no idea how some of the other dishes taste. But who cares? My review! Vichet’s All-Time Favorites for Getting No Work Done in the Afternoon: 1) Egg rolls(freshly fried — nice and crispy on the outside) 2) Sesame chicken(super crispy, with a nice, gooey, sweet/tangy sauce) 3) General Tso’s chicken(same as above, but with broccoli and slightly more soy/ginger than citrus/sugar) 4) Beef lo mein(greasy goodness) 5) Beef fried rice(fried so hard that even the rice grains are caramelized — deliciously smoky) I swear they put crack in their sesame chicken. Those little seeds? They’re actually crack rocks. In fact, I’m pretty sure that any MSG that was originally in the food, naturally occurring(yes, glutamate ions naturally occur, look it up) or otherwise, has been replaced by delicious crispy crack rocks. The service is always friendly(they recognize me and my coworkers by now), and the food always comes out quick. They have no problems with little additions to the order like extra rice, red chilis, sauce, etc. I come here way more often than I should. And, let’s be clear that this is probably one of the worst things you can do to your body on a given day. You WILL be sleepy and 2 lbs heavier after eating here. But, if you love comfort«Chinese» as much as I do, remember Won is there with their delicious spring rolls and crack-chicken. Pro-tip: Their lunch combinations are huge, and come with one of the eggrolls I keep mentioning! Get it now!

Went at dinner time, I wish there was an option to order smaller proportions. I spent around 18 dollars for a chicken entrée and pork fried rice, and my wife and I couldn’t even eat half of it. Now I have to eat chinese two days in a row. update, I don’t know if they add msg, but my stomach feels so full 5 hours later, chinese never did this to me before The food was decent, not the best chinese I had, its just the generic orential general tsao chicken

Mm… Beijing even wins out over Won’s. The fried chicken, when I had it a few years back before I went veg, was good, with a little Asian twist. I like the mushroom fried rice, but other than that there isn’t really any reason to frequent the place. The mapo tofu(w/o meat) was decent, but Kim’s food truck wins out in price and taste.

The only reason why this place gets 4 stars is because I had it when I was starving, was craving chinese and enjoyed it at home! I got chow fun i believe and it was delicious! I really don’t remember anything else but it was the pretty best chow fun I’d had in a while. It’s on 40th place, very convenient, for me. I don’t know what it’d be like eating in.

Won is a Chinese restaurant that I believe is owned by Korean people.(The Won is the currency of Korea, after all.) Their menu mostly contains Chinese dishes, but has a few Japanese and Korean dishes on the back. They don’t make bibimbap anymore, which is too bad, as that used to be good. The food is pretty average in quality. It is far better than nearby Beijing, but much worse than most of the places in Chinatown. So, why do I ever come here? It is a reasonably decorated, moderately priced Chinese restaurant in which one can sit down and eat in University City. While the Chinese food trucks in the area are a little tastier, I would never invite someone to eat a meal with me while standing!

This is a very middle-of-the-road place. It’s not good enough for me to really recommend. It’s not bad enough for me to avoid if I’m in the area and need quick chinese takeout. Their sweet n’ sour chicken lunch special is their best offering.

Won’s is an average-tasting self-styled«oriental» restaurant in University City. I had lunch here one Saturday, long past. There was plenty of seating — and unoccupied too; apparently everyone was still hungover from the night before. I was able to take advantage of my friendly server(not in that way), getting food quickly and opinions on what was really worth ordering. My dish, the chicken cashew(with mushrooms) was average. Chicken wasn’t too dry, sauce wasn’t too perky — talk about making average Chinese food an art form! The lunch trucks might beat them in terms of quality, but on the bright side, Won’s isn’t expensive, and it IS conveniently near the dorms(for students) and at the edge of campus(for locals). Worth a try if you’re nearby, as you don’t have much to lose except a couple bucks.

Facts: Won is a chinese place that also serves some korean dishes. Cons: The main purpose of Won is to feed the hungry in University City and fill them up. It does just this. Do not expect food quality much above one of the chinese food trucks. Luckily, prices are about as moderate. If you find yourself inside Won’s and wonder how you got there, then have the hot and spicy korean seafood soup, but please, only if you can eat spicy. If you go for lunch, try to take the afternoon off. Food tends to be a little bit greasy, so you might not be able to move for a while. Pros: They have chinese fortune cookies with words of wisdom and lucky numbers.
